Metal chicken run 3x6m

We had a great experience, parcels arrived promptly and all issues were quickly addressed. Communication was great, being able to contact the owner and quickly get a response. The instructions were clear and we built the chicken run over a couple of days. Would buy again and recommend.

Absolutely shocking

Absolutely shocking! The product is cheaply made from soft wood that my rabbit is chewing to pieces instantly. The pictures are completely misleading—it’s much smaller than shown. I’ve emailed the company and received no reply whatsoever. This is misleading and poor quality—completely unacceptable!

I think this person may have the wrong company, firstly we have had no contact directly about this issue, all our photos have detailed dimensions either on the photo or in the description, and lastly we do not sell rabbit hutches, although some customers do use them for rabbits.

I wish I’d read these reviews before I…

I wish I’d read these reviews before I bought this dreadful chicken house. What a load of cheap flimsy wood, if I can call it that and very flimsy hindges. Not fit for purpose. It will blow over very easily. Do not buy this.

As we have already discussed if your unhappy with a product you can return it, we have thousands of customers with positive reviews on our website, trust pilot unfortunately attracts the extreme of positive and negative, 5 negative reviews in 5 years from customers that were all offered solutions. But thousands of products sold !!!

We offer a range of products at various prices and specifications, all are perfectly suitable products,, huge amounts of information on our website for advice, and we are at the end of the phone and can offer 20 years of impartial advice.

We are somewhat bemused at times, opinion is one thing, fact is another.

The product is ok - instructions shocking...

The product is ok - but the instructions I mean.. in a world where instructions are bad these are THE WORST!! Faded, hardly legible.. I would not have have bought if I'd known as took an hour longer to put together (and not a fun extra hour!). The fittings are pretty cheap and cheerful as well. Would not buy from them again.

All for the want of a key.

This coup was beautifully manufactured and finished. So much thought had clearly gone into it. And I think they are really proud of their product as they should be.
But... the instructions on how to put it together were left wanting. There is no key to describe what everything is. So when you call to speak to Lee, and believe me you will. You are at cross purposes because you don't know what to call the items you are referencing. I have given this review 3 stars, because this build could be so much better, all for the want of a key to what is in the kit.

Superior service and quality highly recommend he customer service was best I've ever…

The customer service was best I've ever had. We had issues with delivery company but staff were straight on to it. Even at 9pm at night! Over and beyond the call of duty really. Bought a 3m × 3m chicken run. The quality of the run was very impressive. The poles significantly sturdier and thicker than any others we viewed. Highly recommend. A++++

Not fit for purpose

Purchased large chicken coop and run last year and built the back end of the year, stained it as recommended. As I was using for my tortoise appose to chickens I stored in the corner to protect as best possible from weather. When I got it out this summer the felt roof has all raised and the wood has rotten. All the hindges have rusted and crumbled. The door catches have rotten. The side pannel has come away and had to be re drilled on. I have contacted the company to inform of above and asked if they supply covers as these hutches are definitely not made to last and I'm guessing most chickens are out all year long. They don't supply covers to protect from weather. Very disappointed, it was very expensive and purchased on the basis it would last a long time , not less than a year!

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review, you contacted us to ask if we sell covers, which we do not for this product, but what we do no from 18 years experience and many positive reviews on our website is that if the coop is cared for and treated correctly as per the information we provide on our website these units provide several years of use, we have many customers with 5 years use, which from a entry level product we think is excellent value, we do have a higher quality deluxe range product with higher specification materials for the customer that wants that heavy duty 10 year lasting product. We have not been provided with any information on the care of the product or photos so we can evaluate why the unit may be showing the issues you raise.

We bought a Metal Hen Duck Run 4m x 4m…

We bought a Metal Hen Duck Run 4m x 4m - 38mm frame. Really disappointing quality. The welded or perhaps soldered nuts sheared off as soon as you started to tighten them. The mesh is flimsy. We bought the heavy duty anchoring pegs but they bent on first use. The green roof cover lasted around 6 months before the elastic attachments provided pulled through. Very poor value for money considering the price.

Cheaply made like most things these days.

After purchasing a chicken run on eBay around five years ago for around £120 this particular chicken coop has had its day and to purchase the exact similar one is nearly double the price due to Covid Brexit and possibly even a tanker stuck on the Suez Canal.
So after a lot of looking I came across this company and the pictures and price seem decent. I will say the chicken run is a decent size and a good design but that is as far as compliments go. I am leaving my review on here as I left one on their website but they refused to show it.
So to put it bluntly I have a 13 x 8‘ shed for my hot tub. Made out of 1 inch wood for the walls gable ends and roof which also incorporates Roofing felt. It has glass windows and a floor made out of 2 inch timber. All for the princely sum of around £1300. After treating this particular shed I know it will last me for many years. So for something that is considerably smaller and £250 I would expect something of very good quality that will last for many years with little maintenance, this you will not get. I would expect the item after assembled out of the box will probably fall to bits within 2 to 3 years without a lot of extra work and care to make the item sturdy waterproof and robust as it will be outside in the hot sunshine frost snow rain and obviously chicken poop.
The instructions are basic and straightforward but I found it a lot easier to assemble many other parts in a different order. The panels are held together with two screws and in some cases three screws on each corner and the screws are exceptionally small. The wood in some places barely measures 10 mm thick and some parts have used balsawood or MDF to make part of the roof. Bottom line is if They could get hold of some thinner wood, I am sure they would have.
If you want to purchase one of these coups do not expect to put it together in an hour stick it outside and have many years of use of it, this you will not get unless you spend a considerable extra amount of time and more money in strengthening the whole thing. By all means use the screws supplied so it is tacked together but I would strongly suggest going to hardware store, getting different size screws at least 3 to 5 mil in thickness and different lengths of 1 inch 1 1/2 inch two and 2 1/2 inch. When the coop is built take a 2 mm wood drill bit and drill many extra holes along the corners and use the screws for strength. The chicken coop after this can be picked up rolled over without bending cracking or potentially falling apart. After I have assembled the item I then took some chemical based treatment as chemical best soaks in better than water based. Treated the whole exterior with the wood treatment after this has dried I then used decking oil on the inside and external to make it more waterproof so it will last much longer. This should be retreated oil wise every couple years as it dries out over time. Also if you ever get mites treating the wood can kill the mites and also gives them less places to hide. But after the decking oil and wood treatment has dried it is of no harm to the chickens. For the roof and the flat surface above where the chickens lay I took some black bitumen roofing paint and give it a couple of coats. You could also get some roofing felt and put that on as well for an even more waterproof and longer lasting roof. The metal hinges and catch are of very poor quality and you can bend with your fingers so I would suggest purchasing some more heavy duty hinges and using larger screws to affix these. If you’re heavy duty screws protrude through the wood just trim them using Grindr or snips to cut them down.
Overall it is taken around three days to have the chicken coop in my opinion ready for my girls obviously drying time is taken into consideration.
I would also mention with the overhanging Box, when the chicken coop is in situ it is best to support this particular box as they do have a tendency of the bottom dropping out as time goes on. Either using bricks or extra wooden supports.
Hope this helps. If you are handy with a drill, screws and paint then it can be turned into a decent item.

Thank you for taking the time to write your detailed review.

As you have touched on cost prices have increased a lot over the last two years, so yes things have gone up for the same quality of product, we offer two ranges the express range and deluxe range, the deluxe range comes with thicker wood, heavier duty wood and heavier duty fittings, but they cost more.

We have been selling these units for 15 years and we know if cared for they last around 5 years, or our deluxe range will last over 10 years, so the customer can make a choice and what fits there budget. We work on very small profit margins so we keep prices as low as possible for our customers.

What i do agree with is your care of the unit around keeping it well treated, that applies to any out door wooden product. The upgrades you have done to the hinges etc will improve the unit but the standard fittings are fine.

Great customer service

The chicken house company provided excellent customer service, prompt replies and keeping us updated of the progress of our order. We had an issue with Tuffnells not delivering. Customer service were on the case and got things sorted with Tuffnells who then delivered. The 4m x 2m chicken run is good quality for the price. All parts complete.
I would happily recommend the chicken house company.

Don’t buy anything from this company

Don’t buy anything from this company. The worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. Really disappointed with the quality of the chicken run, wouldn’t know where to start with listing the defects because there’s so many, but the roof didn’t fit and the first breeze blew it over causing extensive damage. After a week’s use, it’s wrecked. No accurate photographs of the product you’re purchasing on the website - now we know why. It’s now in the hands of Trading Standards. G Meredith

The customer made this purchase some weeks ago, built it and put it to use, they did not make contact with us until after a storm damaged the product. The customer then made a number of allegations about the product and its quality, and wanted a refund, we advised the customer of her rights and if she had not been happy with the product within the first 30 days this could have been returned for a full refund, but now that its been damaged by a storm this would not be possible, but to help the customer we offered as a gesture of goodwill replacement parts for the storm damage even though this was not something we had to do. We are a small family run business that prides itself on customer service and have been selling these products for many years, we have lots of 5 star reviews on our website for this product from genuine customers and how happy they are with there purchase and service.

Avoid buying anything from this…

Avoid buying anything from this company.... my daughter and I both bought a chicken house ... both painted it before putting together... bits missing had to buy 2 hinges for nesting box and 2 knobs for the pull out draw.... I wrote to them and said how disappointed we were and they wrote a very rude email back telling me it wasn’t a Tv with guarantee.... we had to put a new floor in repair leaking nesting boxes ...the roof harbours mites as it’s flimsy lined with cheap wood ... this hasn’t stood the time of day fell apart within a few month’s....

This customer contacted us for the first time after owning the product for a period of time that was outside of the warranty period, in the very unlikely event any parts are missing when a purchase is made we would and do send those straight away. We offer many products with various specifications so that all customers requirements are catered for, for example if a customer feels that our express range is not to the specification they need we have our deluxe range, we offer a solution for all needs and budgets. In addition if a customer is ever unhappy when they make a purchase clearly it can be returned within our terms and conditions and there consumer rights. I would urge anyone who reads this and is not certain they are dealing with a caring small family run business to read the reviews on our website which will show clearly what customers think in the public domain.
