They charge you for everything

They charge you for everything, even to get your money from the Currency Account back to your bank account, 45,00£, they charge you a 5,00£ fee.
Won't use them again.

Please note we refund back any amount less than £10 back to a UK bank account free of charge. Once an FX deal has been made on the account, any amount greater than £10 is charged at a flat fee of £5, irrelevant of which account it is being paid to. For example, a UK bank account or an international account abroad would be charged a flat fee of £5 to save our customers on expensive FX payment fees. We have a capped pricing policy.

Overall a good experience and easy to…

Overall a good experience and easy to send money abroad to my French account, The one thing that would make it clearer to the user is about the charges and when and where they will be applied, I left sufficient sterling in the account to cover the transaction, but it came out of the money sent, so left with £5 in account and less than expected sent, not worth sending the £5 as would be lost in transaction costs.

Please note that for any amount less than £10 left on account we will of course refund this free of charge for you. Please call us on 0207 014 3344 to get your refund for free back into your UK bank account.

Please also note for next time, there is an option to choose to pay your £5 fee in Sterling or the Foreign currency when sending your payment, so you would have had the option to use the £5 you added extra as well when sending your funds to France, we can show you how to do this next time.

Website isn't overly user friendly and…

Website isn't overly user friendly and when conducting any transaction you are not fully aware of the fees being incurred. A bit disappointing

You also have to option to lock in the most competitive and leading exchange rates and hold your currency safely and securely in your online portal. You can then make payments or withdraw at a later date for when you need it.

Has become expensive

The travel money rate has now changed and no longer reflects the mid-point market rate. This built-in commission, coupled with the £15 delivery charge now makes The Currency Account an expensive way of buying currency.

I've been using the Currency Account…

I've been using the Currency Account for a couple of years now. Their customer service team are very helpful and I've always received my travel money as ordered. It's easy to transfer money into the account because you can pay by card. I'll continue to use them!

Not happy

Not happy! Had money tied up in my currency account and because i have just moved back in with family, they wouldnt let me change address. They insisted on seeing a bill with my name on it.. its not my house!! I move abroad in 2 weeks. Converted my money back to Gbp, at a loss, and transfered back to my current account. Waist of time. I'm not even closing the account, its their problem!

Having previously left a five star…

Having previously left a five star review, I am now disappointed to find the currency accounts exchange rate has dropped from matching interbank exchange rates to just about being on par with Tesco and below that of many others. Shame.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. At The Currency Account, our aim is provide a service that is catered to and meets the needs of our clients in all areas.

As our customer numbers increasingly grow and as we also mature as a company, we believe it necessary to make changes to help better the service and satisfy any demands.

We have changed our pricing slightly so that there is only a small transaction fee of £5 for External Payments abroad (Urgent Payments cost now reduced to £5) and £15 for our Travel Money services, whilst taking a FIXED percentage off the always fluctuating Market Rate to cater our service fee.

This change is due to the high amounts of suggestions from clients who would prefer our fee to be adjusted in the rate that we offer, whilst the transaction charge should be fixed and the same for all size transactions. Due to the significant number of requests for this change we have decided to adopt this approach.

Please note that even with this change in pricing, the value proposition and mission of The Currency Account shall always remain. We aim to bring fairness to the financial landscape through a service that is innovative and honest.

Increased charges!

New structure since 1st March 2018 works okay but charges have increased and are no longer transparent. Rates now offered take slightly more than 0.5% from mid market rate and then the flat rate charge of £5 is added. The less you transfer the bigger the effect of this additional charge.
