Preparing to Cruise
We input requested data and were presented with page of at least 7 or 8 options, with various carriers and ratings on each. We easily chose the right one and purchased online. We received confirmation immediately and paper copies within a few days. Great price options and very nice online experience.

Misleading Coverage & Denied Legitimate Claims
I purchased a TinLeg Gold travel insurance policy through Squaremouth, and I feel that I was completely misled. My claim was denied because I didn’t return to the same location I departed from, even though I was in the country I listed as covered, and my travel dates matched my policy.
This “requirement” is not clearly stated anywhere on TinLeg’s website or in their purchase flow. Only after filing a legitimate claim did they point to this as a reason for denial. To me, that feels deceptive, as it buries restrictions in fine print while marketing broad coverage.
If a policy won’t cover you unless your trip starts and ends at the same airport/city, that should be explicitly stated before purchase, not discovered when you need help most.
Travel insurance is supposed to provide peace of mind. Instead, TinLeg left me stressed, out of pocket, and feeling scammed. I would strongly caution others to read every exclusion with a magnifying glass before considering this company.
10/6/25 Update: Tin Leg’s response claims my coverage was denied because I “entered incorrect departure or return dates.” That’s inaccurate. The dates I entered were the exact dates I would be physically present in the location for which I purchased coverage, which was the period for which I actually needed insurance.
It was very unclear during purchase and the confirmation that choosing any other range of dates (for example, including a domestic layover or travel time before or after the insured country) would invalidate the policy entirely. With international travel, especially, I feel details on what could void your coverage should be more clearly stated and more up front.
It feels misleading that a single technicality, one that wasn’t clearly disclosed, was used to deny my claim despite what I honestly thought was my accurate travel information. I’d love to have more transparency in how coverage dates are represented and sold.
Consumers deserve clear communication, not gotcha clauses hidden behind vague forms.

Waste of thousands of dollars for worthless insurance
While the claims professionals were polite, our experience with Tin Leg was disappointing. After purchasing their very expensive insurance and landing at our destination, one of our flights was cancelled abruptly and without explanation. We purchased at great expense tickets on a different airline and flew out as planned. When we returned home contacted Tin Leg, and provided mounds of paperwork, but after numerous messages and calls our claim for the replacement flight was denied. The reason for the denial: since we were able to get to our destination and proceed with our plans, according to Tin Leg, our travel was not disrupted, and we were not entitled to any reimbursement. Terrible waste of thousands of dollars for worthless insurance, as well as ridiculous amount of time making claim and documenting per reps’ request, and overall, a bad experience. Would never use this company again.

Really Happy to have business with TinLeg
Thanks God, we never use it, though often travel overseas & always buy insurance from TinLeg, mostly because of its very competitive package in terms of price and what is included in that price. Website is straight forwarding & user-friendly too.

Absolute worst company do deal with
Absolute worst company do deal with. One step short of a scam. Refused to pay a legit and covered claim with all supporting documentation after months of providing everything they kept adding in. Inconsistent responses from reps. Can't get anyone on the phone, email is basically using AI bots. Wrote the CEO and never heard back. Will never use or recommend this company. Find yourself another company instead of throwing money down the toilet for a Tinleg policy. Literally cost us thousands of dollars that we should have gotten back in our claim.

Ignored for Weeks Until I Raised Hell
I purchased a Tin Leg travel insurance policy through Squaremouth and filed a valid medical cancellation claim with full documentation — including physician letters and itemized receipts — after being diagnosed with acute viral gastroenteritis before my trip.
Despite meeting all requirements, my claim was delayed, mishandled, and repeatedly ignored for nearly two months. I received canned responses from their “claims team” insisting documents were missing when they clearly were not — I responded multiple times clarifying and re-sending everything, only to be met with the same generic emails week after week.
When I finally called, I was told I could not speak to anyone directly and that all communication had to go through a generic email inbox — which they do not meaningfully respond to. It became clear that they were stalling and hoping I’d give up.
It wasn’t until I filed complaints with the BBB, Massachusetts Division of Insurance, the NAIC, and Squaremouth’s “Zero Complaint Guarantee” team that my claim was magically approved within one business day — after nearly two months of total stonewalling. I was finally reimbursed, but only because I refused to be bullied into silence.
No apology, no acknowledgment, and no ownership. Just payment under pressure.
Key Takeaways:
• Expect long delays and automated gaslighting if you file a claim.
• They make phone communication impossible and don’t respond meaningfully to emails.
• Resolution only came after multiple regulatory complaints — not because of customer service.
• Squaremouth claims to back every policy with their “Zero Complaint Guarantee,” but that only kicks in after you’re forced to do all the legwork yourself.
Final Thoughts…
If I hadn’t been persistent and willing to escalate this to formal agencies, I would have lost over $2,300 despite having full coverage. Protect your time, your energy, and your sanity. Choose a more transparent and responsive insurance company.
