Had a great trip around the Greek islands on a small cruise ship, Caledonian Sky. However the ship is quite tired and in need of modernisation in some areas. The staff, food and wines were brilliant... See more

Lovely boat, great staff and all round super holiday experience.
Excellent service ,Sophia and James were especially helpful.
Balkans cruise on the Danube. The positives include the lovely modern ship, the excellent, friendly, efficient and helpful crew and staff from all areas of the ship and the quality/presentation/quantity of the food which all came together to ensure we had a lovely holiday.
On the other hand the negatives include APT admin/organisation (pre boarding) and the disaster of an experience in the transfer from Bucarest to the ship, which had already left the port before we had any hope of getting to it.
However, overall this was a great holiday and yes, we would travel APT Travelmarvel again
We were the only English couple on the River cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest. This was a surprise but we thoroughly enjoyed the company and relaxed nature of the mainly Austrailian Guests. Cruise Director was very knowledgeable and worked exceedingly hard to see that all guests had a great time. Food was amongst the best I have experienced on a cruise holiday and We are both looking forward to our next APT cruise.
Excellent and clear pre-cruise information received. Travel arrangements precise and carried out to the letter. Ship modern and very user friendly. Food excellent fine dining. Excursions well planned and very informative. The necessity to change ships after 7 days through water shortage in the Danube was carried out efficiently and as advised. Very little impact on the cruise programme
The wonderful staff were so welcoming, friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and the included excursions were very good. This will certainly not be my last holiday with APT TravelMarvel.
The tour was put together extremely well.
The trip through the Rockies was a great experience with an excellent tour manager and lovely hosts on the Rocky Mountaineer.
However, the tour was let down for me by the Holland American cruise ship as I have dietary requirements that were not catered for. Despite the fact that they had been notified beforehand.
The cabin was odd as to look out of the windows you had to kneel on the bed, not to mention the light switches on the headboards!
Three star rating as overall it was ok but no better than that. Cabin was noisy at night due to being sited under the air con main units and ear plugs were necessary. This is despite it being supposedly only second to the two 'owners suites' and was worse than cheaper alternatives. Food was ok but not up to previous trips with APT. Daily excursions were in much larger groups than on previous cruises and in some cases the time was poorly used. EG. in Salamanca (2 hours in a bus) then hang around for another hour waiting for a local guide to whizz us round in a group of 30+. The promised tour of Porto turned out to be just a coach ride round the city without actually stopping at any attractions. Without wishing to sound too 'sniffy' about this it all felt a bit downmarket bearing in mind the price paid. My advice to future travellers is don't pay the extra money for cabin 324 and book your own guides for Salamanca and Porto.
The ship was lovely, the evening entertainment was good. The food and service were excellent. Our cruise director was well informed and helpful.
On a minus side and petty there was no plug in the bathroom basin which causes a waste of water. Also the coach trips on this cruise were overly long which of course this is because the excursions were not on the riverside as in the Amsterdam to Budapest cruise.
No co-ordination between guides so often the same story on the next day trip.
Cycles available were great but it would help to have knowledge of local cycle routes.
An altogether unforgettable experience, in celebration of my 70th birthday. We were treated incredibly well by everyone, from wonderful cleaners, waiters, entertainment staff, managers - everyone came across as being determined to make our experience well organised and very special. With a good mix between escorted tours and time to ourselves, as well as "down" time to enjoy craft classes, or just sitting on deck enjoying scenery with coffee or a drink, we never felt pressured or rushed to do anything except enjoy the whole experience. We watched other cruise operators, and were quite sure that our operators were more professionally run, with far superior boats and an overall better ambience. Really gratefull that all gratuities were included in the price as I would have hated to start making any choices!! - everyone was amazing throughout - and although prices looked a little higher than other operators, when you took everything included into account, and the overall standard offered, it most certainly was not. I would not use any other company having experienced APT/Travel Marvel first hand
Clean modern ship was great and although staterooms are small and balcony not a true balcony there was plenty of storage space and a great shower.
We felt the dining times were very restrictive. 7-9 breakfast. 12.30 lunch and 7pm dinner. Very Limited choice menus.
Included tours leave far too early! We are on holiday and want to relax! The ships rarely dock in the centre of places visited whilst other lines have the prime spots we were often far away from where we wanted to be
Enjoyable cruise down The Danube. Lovely clean cabin as is everywhere on the boat, ultra comfy bed and great shower. Friendly staff and attentive. Would have been 5 stars if the dinner in the evenings included a grilled steak or chicken as a fall back if you don't like regional dish or a sauce.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Danube river cruise. The cabin was very comfortable & well laid out, the ship in general was excellent. All the staff were very friendly, polite & helpful, they all work very hard. The trips were all very good & the tour guides were very informative
Exceptional cruise director (Esme). She really went the extra mile to make sure that everyone had a great holiday. Always friendly and helpful, even though she worked very long hours.
All other staff were also very good, especially waiters remembering individual preferences. Food excellent.
Only one criticsm to stop it being five star: there was nowhere to sit and chat with friends after dinner. The lounge was too busy, loud and crowded. McGearys bar could have been available, but closed at 9.00pm. Nothing wrong with the evening entertainment on offer, but not everyone wants to take part ever night.
On the whole we enjoyed our river cruise the staff were all exceptional especially the boys / girls that looked after our rooms and the staff who looked after the food and drink in the restaurant waiters etc they worked long hours and were always smiling and helpful at all times they were brilliant the food was disappointing at the start of the cruise the tea served between 3/4 the sandwiches were unappealing all on white bread and not very healthy so never ate tea maybe some nice scones and nice small brown filled rolls with different fillings ?? Instead of the white curled up sandwiches the food in the restaurant got better as the cruise went on , I’m not vegetarian, but not much choice if you were vegetarian the cabin was nice bed very comfortable plenty of places to put clothes etc , all seemed to be very well organised
