Though fully encrypted, there are many downsides.

I created my Tutanota email account this year (2022). Just as with ProtonMail, I love the company's focus on privacy. I find that the free account has enough features for my requirements. The prices are decent for those that need more.

So, I'm trying to register for an email provider which boasts privacy as their core feature but blocks sign-ups from VPNs? I was planning on using this for business as a provider for my employees but thats on hold for now.

I have use this email service for months now and everything has been great.

Impossible to login with my account. The procedure to reset the passw doesn't work. I spent 15 mn in trying to log, to reset my passw, to re-create a new account... Using this app is a real nightmare. avoid it.

Ripped me off for $1000 dollars.

Avoid Tutanota if you do not want to be locked in their webmail or their proprietary desktop-client. Tutanota does not offer neither POP nor IMAP, therefore you cannot use email client like Thunderbird or any IMAP client. Their only reason for refusal is an alleged reason of privacy but this reason is not even given by the team, but by fans on Reddit. I read that they were unprofessional, I confirm that they stay unprofessional.

Maybe they respect privacy, but password recovery key dosen't work.

Worst customer support in existence.

This email might be an curiosity, but even that has faded away because since they launched, they can't even get proper customer service - even though they ask for quite a bit of money.

This Meike person is the only one - for the past 3 years - who has been answering customer service. Every time - it was as german as it gets - the answer was always no, no matter what the ask was.

Want to delete users from your inbox (i.e say - you removed a custom domain, and want to remove users associated with it)? No.

When they launched, they had no .com domain. They later added it, so I made an identical (to existing email) .com alias. Now they switched their domain as DEFAULT .com - therefore, logic follows, so I would like to do with the email (i.e have the .com email as default, and the initial .de email as the alias, or even delete it, so I can keep the .com and free up an alias). Can you do it? No.

In fact, you cannot ask for help with - or do anything - outside of the existing buttons. They chuck it all under 'impossible' and won't even consider it. Meike is especially horrendous to deal with.

I've paid them for 3 years straight, but I'm going back to Google Apps. I can't have an email, let alone run a business, with this limited view of what customer support means.

Hint: it means more than just acknowledging the receipt of a support email.

It's also ironic, since they offer 'premium support' with their paid plan. I would argue it's neither premium, nor support.

Anti-privacy: hates vpn. Hard edge limits to one account. HUGE problem for vpn with pools of shared ip addresses. Expect your account to be suspended for protecting your privacy.

android app has analytics than cannot be disabled unless you are familiar with app hacking.

Attempting to send a number of invitations in one go, we were send an error message that our limit of emails had been met. A solution was offered - go Premium for 'immediate' ability to send further emails. We are still waiting...
Emails (from my other account) to tutanota have been left unanswered.
Not impressed.

My main issue with this is that it doesnt show the emails properly in the mobile App. You have to either turn it sideways or scan across as it doesnt fit on the screen. Super crap that it's not optimised for mobile use as is the only device I use for my emails. I'll likely get rid of it and sign up for a different one. It does almost seem like it's in beta and not really ready yet for proper mainstream use.

I tried to access my account and my password wasn't accepted. I had used it recently. So the process requires you have a recovery code. Which I couldn't find. So when I contacted them they just could/would not do anything to help me after repeated requests. They just parroted the same line about following the instructions. I told them I didn't have my recovery code. And they just ignored me and repeated the same line. I spent WAY to many hours trying to get help. And they treated very poorly. If you value your time, Don't waste it with tutanota. The app is not ready for prime time. Very Buggy.

I like that you can use Tutanota with open source apps (I use the F-Droid version) and desktop clients, makes it so much more convenient!

Unable to sign up. No support contact as that is only available after you sign up and pay them.
Terrible company due to these policies.

They have a decent amount of storage and you can choose the mail domain you want which I prefer "tuta.io".

This is better than Google, helps you to make your email securely encrypted as possible so that others can't see and track your email whatsoever. Defenitely a good service
