Easy ordering process and good product, delivery was an issue or i mean getting delivery confirmed was, it took 4 calls to finally get delivery confirmed, I know it isnt a major problem but that was it.

All the staff I spoke with were very good, polite and professional the delivery driver was a lovely chap who couldnt do enough for us.

Everything i ordered was there, staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent service

Despite reading some negative reviews I decided to give UK Timber the benefit of the doubt, however I wish I hadn’t bothered…. I won’t bore you with the details, but just to say I will not be using UK Timber again and I would definitely not recommend them.

I required 3 lengths of planed timber for a garage door frame. They supplied 4 lengths as one was slightly bent. The extra one was totally unusable as badly twisted, and the bent one warped out of shape both ways after 2 days on my garage floor, rendering it also unusable. I didn't bother contacting them as I am 30 miles from the sawmill, so I got a replacement from another company. I will NOT be using UK Timber again, as I expect a reputable company to get it right FIRST time, not spend over £80 on 50% unusable timber. Please yourselves if you deal with them, but if you do - CHECK IT BEFORE YOU LEAVE !!

I ordered untreated/unbanded scaffold boards because they were to be used for a vegetable bed. I received treated framing boards (one of which was the wrong size). I was not contacted to see if I wanted what was delivered (which I don't) and I am still waiting for the original boards to be delivered and the unwanted ones taken away.

So far not great. Placed an order on 30/3, still not received the timber. Called twice, each time were told it will be next week and someone will call but heard nothing. We just need to know when the timber will be delivered so we don’t mess around the trademan again.

Good service and competitive prices

Ordered a "small" pile of reclaimed oak sleepers and they were soon delivered to my front garden.

A garden trolley/cart made it a lot easier to move them by myself. I am of slim build and not used to manual labour or lifting things at the gym.

Be careful when cutting reclaimed sleepers as most of them come with some metal parts embedded in them. A large circular saw with an appropriate blade is my weapon of choice.

I am using them to make raised beds for ornamental plants. I lined the sides (but not the base) of mine with pond liner material to prolong the life of the sleepers and help retain moisture. I suspect that the creosote treated oak will last for a couple of decades.

If you want to grow edible plants and are worried about creosote, the pond liner will minimise soil contamination. Or you could just buy untreated tropical hardwood sleepers but these are heavier and harder to cut.

A pressure washer, and an angle grinder with a wire brush attachment cleans up the worst of the dirt, tar and creosote. You may still get the odd patch of tar rising to the surfaces on warm days, so don't use these for seating. You will want overalls and a dust mask (ideally a respirator) to do this.
