Be careful when ordering from WhatGeek…

I ordered a Miyoo Mini Plus advertised as "Ships from UK" for £49. After investigating their business practices and threatening legal action, I received a full refund. Here's what I discovered:
THE SCAM:
WhatGeek advertises "Ships from UK" but customer reviews consistently prove ALL items ship from Hong Kong, not the UK. When I challenged them, they initially refused to provide a UK address. Only after I reported them to Action Fraud, Trading Standards, and filed a chargeback claim did they suddenly provide:
Unit 19, Triumph Way, Liverpool L24 9GQ
This address is registered to UTL Shipping Ltd - a logistics forwarding company. This is NOT a warehouse with stock. It's a mail forwarding service where items from Hong Kong are routed through before being sent to customers.
THEIR TEMPLATE RESPONSE:
WhatGeek responds to complaints with the same copy-paste message claiming:

"Pre-order items have longer dispatch times" (to justify 5+ week waits)
"In-stock items ship from UK within 24 hours"

This second claim is a LIE. Reviews across Trustpilot prove everything ships from Hong Kong with Chinese company names on packages.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS:

You order believing it's UK stock
Item ships from Hong Kong (4-6 weeks)
Routes through Liverpool forwarding address
Delivered with Chinese company names on packaging
If faulty: Extortionate international return shipping costs

THE RETURN FEE TRAP:
If you receive a faulty device, returning it will cost significantly more than standard UK returns because the item must be shipped back to Hong Kong/China, not the UK. Multiple customer reviews document receiving faulty items and facing extortionate international return shipping costs that make returns financially unviable.
This is their business model:

Mislead customers about UK stock
Ship from Hong Kong
Make returns prohibitively expensive if items are faulty

HOW I GOT MY REFUND:
I only received a refund after:

Reporting to Action Fraud (national fraud database)
Reporting to Trading Standards (logged on e-crime database)
Filing detailed chargeback claim with evidence
Sending legal complaint citing UK Consumer Protection violations
Publicly calling out their lack of UK address

They immediately caved and refunded £49 to make me go away.
EVIDENCE:

Company website claims "Ships from UK"
Reviews consistently show Hong Kong origin
Liverpool address is forwarding service, not warehouse
Extortionate return costs documented across reviews
Template responses gaslighting customers

MY RECOMMENDATION:
DO NOT ORDER unless you accept:

Items ship from Hong Kong (not UK)
4-6 week delivery minimum
Prohibitively expensive returns if faulty
Misleading advertising

If you've been scammed:

Report to Action Fraud (actionfraud.police.uk)
Contact your bank for chargeback
Report to Trading Standards via Citizens Advice
Leave honest reviews warning others

The only way to stop this is for customers to fight back with reports and chargebacks.
FINAL VERDICT:
The product may be fine if it arrives working. But the business practices are deliberately misleading. "Ships from UK" is false advertising designed to deceive customers. The Liverpool address is a forwarding service, not genuine UK stock.
I got my refund by threatening legal action. You can too. Don't let them scam you.
Rating: 1/5 - False advertising, dropshipping disguised as UK warehouse, extortionate return fees.

WhatGeek’s reply to this review is false. The product did NOT ship from the UK as they claim. They reported my review in an attempt to hide it, and it was temporarily removed until Trustpilot looked into it. Because I had proof of their misleading claims, Trustpilot reinstated my review.

Hi

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We value your experience highly.

We would like to clarify a few key issues you raised:

Regarding "Shipping from the UK" and pre-sale: We sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding caused by unclear information on the page.

The product link was for a "pre-sale item," and its shipping period was clearly indicated on the page.

You placed your order knowing this pre-sale period, and we did not guarantee delivery before Christmas.

Because we could not meet your expectation of "Christmas arrival," we processed your refund after communication.

Regarding shipping location and address: We work with multiple compliant suppliers, including local UK warehouses, to optimize the logistics experience. The Liverpool address you provided (Unit 19, Triumph Way) is one of our legally registered operating addresses in the UK, used for order processing, after-sales service, and some logistics transit, not a "shell forwarding point" as you might understand it.

All orders shipped from UK addresses comply with local business regulations regarding warehousing and logistics.

Regarding our return policy: For products with quality issues, our after-sales policy always prioritizes protecting consumer rights.

If a return is due to our responsibility (such as product quality issues), we will bear the related costs. This policy applies equally to all customers.

We are committed to operating legally and compliantly, and continuously optimizing the customer experience.

We sincerely regret that this purchase did not meet your expectations.

We respect your right to share your experience and consider your feedback an important reference for improving our services.

Fantastic customer service. 5 stars!

Fantastic customer service! So I ordered a Retroid gaming console for Christmas for my son but I ordered the wrong one. He wanted the flip one and I had ordered the flat side control one. Straight way after I emailed customer service I was emailed back and they exchanged the item for the correct one and for no extra fee. So I am now expecting a very happy child on Christmas Day. Again thank you very much to WhatGeek for their help.

Poor durability and refund response

I bought an £80 keyboard from them, which I would say is a reasonable amount of money to spend on a single product. Within 6 months the keys started becoming unresponsive (including "Enter", which is rather crippling). I don't use the keyboard an insane amount- daily use for a mix of coding, emails and report writing. The fact that it has effectively died within 6 months is a reflection of the overall poor build quality seen in this product. I would've expected a refund or replacement, but the best they would offer was ~$18 partial refund... I would discourage from purchasing from them, as the poor product quality, especially given these are meant to be a "premium typing experience", isn't reflective of the true experience.

**2025-12-03 update:

Following this, WhatGeek reached out to offer a replacement keyboard, which I received within 7 days. This was a far more pleasant customer service experience from them and I have update the stars from 2 -> 3

FlyDigi Apex 5 Controller, First time purchase...

First time purchase from WhatGeek and the price was brilliant, the product was as described and no delivery problems. My item developed a fault 3 months in and WhatGeek sent out a new replacement after reviewing my photo and video evidence, I didn't even have to send my damaged one back to them. I would highly recommend this Business, as this is the customer support we are all looking for!!! I am now looking for Xmas gifts.

Replacement controller

The controller that was sent had a fault. To their credit, Whatgeek has been responsive and sent a replacement. Otherall, it was over 2 months since my original order to resolve. The length of time aside, I am happy with Whatgeek's customer service, and the product is working great now.
