When I unfortunately got to this A£E…

When I unfortunately got to this A£E for my cat injury they told me the cat is very purely and probably going to die. After i paid for initial pain treatment 500 and they confirmed nothing was broken, they also said they are not giving me the cat back and the cat needs to stay under their supervision in in client and for one day the cost is 1k pounds. When asked how many day do they think she’d need to stay they said they don’t know, when I I asked if it would be like 10 days they said no, and that 2-3 weeks is also unluckily. Me being unable to afford this treatment they made me sign and agreement to give off the rights of my cat ; while refusing me to take her home or even to another vet!

Lack of Follow-Up Put My Dog’s Health at Risk

I have never written a negative review before, as I generally believe most people are trying their best. Unfortunately, my experience with Village Vet Hampstead put my dog’s wellbeing at risk due to a lack of organization and poor clinical follow-through.

I attended this clinic despite seeing several negative reviews, hoping my experience would be different. Unfortunately, those reviews proved accurate.

I provided Village Vet with my dog’s full clinical history from the US. Despite this, they refused to prescribe the medication she needed to treat an active UTI until lab results returned, assuring me the results would take 24–28 hours. Three days passed with no communication. I went into the clinic in person and was told at reception that they would follow up with the lab and contact me. I still heard nothing.

I returned again the following day. At that point, I still had no answers about her cultures and no medication was provided—yet I was charged £150 regardless.

The lack of urgency, communication, and accountability was deeply concerning, particularly given that this involved an untreated infection. I am sharing this review to help other pet owners avoid a similar experience.

For comparison, Highgate Veterinary Clinic was an excellent alternative. The vet was compassionate, thorough, and spent approximately 45 minutes with me and my dog to ensure she fully understood her condition and treatment needs. They are independently run, which may account for the clear difference in care.

Village Vet

Village Vet – A Disappointing Experience

On my first visit to the clinic to book an appointment, the lady at the reception looked at me as if questioning why I was there the moment I walked in. When I asked for some information, I was met with a very cold and unfriendly tone. At the time, I didn’t think too much of it and assumed she might just be having a bad day.

On the day of the appointment, there was a different person at reception who was quite polite and chatty. She processed the procedures in the system. As my kitten was only 8 weeks old, the necessary internal and external parasite treatments and the required vaccinations were administered. However, no appointment date was given for the very important second dose vaccination, despite the fact that payment was taken immediately.

During the consultation, while I was trying to ask the vet questions, I found it particularly uncomfortable that the vet kept explaining their monthly subscription system instead. I had specifically requested nail trimming when I first booked the appointment, but apart from the vaccinations, no other procedures were carried out.

In short, if you truly care about and value your pets’ health, I would strongly recommend staying away from this clinic. They are far from professional. I had to urgently find another vet for my kitten’s second vaccination and had it done elsewhere.

What was even more upsetting was their response instead of trying to make up for their mistake:
“All the vaccinations will have to be repeated.”

This left me with the clear impression that their priority is not animal health, but the money they make. Unfortunately, it was a very bad experience.

why did my honest review disappear? ?

For some reason my review from February this year has been removed.
All I wanted was to warn others not to use this practice if they care about their pets.
My cat received no treatment except some useless and overpriced medication. The vet was clearly inexperiened and didn't know how to handle a large cat despite me explaining the situation while making the appointment.
It takes a considerable effort to bundle my cat into a pet carrier and bring him to the vets in the first place! Imagine my dismay when no treatment was carried out and instead, I was advised that he needed a very expensive dental cleaning. Really?
I pay the extortionate consultation fee for getting this advice?
An excellent mobile vet that I found after being let down by QP Village Vets did examine my cat and confirmed that he didn't need any dental treatment at all!
Shame on you Village Vets for treating pets and owners as the source of cash and nothing else.
BTW... even if this post is removed I'll keep posting on all the platforms as long as I live in this area. And warn all other pet owners I meet in local parks.

Extortionate prices

I rang a couple of days ago to enquire about getting my dog's teeth cleaned. I was quoted £1000-1500. After I regained consciousness, I rang the vet where we're registered outside London. They quoted £250-400. I then rang the Beaumont Sainsbury Animal Hospital at the RVC, where our cat is registered. They quoted £550 with the caveat that that might increase if extraction was required, though they said that was unlikely given my dog's age.

I've also now clocked that I can buy 3 months' worth of my dog's Nexgard and Millbemax tablets from Pet Drugs Online for less than £30. Today I paid Village Vet £112 for these. Insane.

In fact, I left Village Vet years ago when I discovered that every passing thought about my late cat's health had been added to his record, which made him uninsurable, even though he was never investigated or diagnosed with any of these hypothetical concerns. I returned during Covid when they were the only vet I could find who could offer the puppy vaccinations we needed.

To be fair, while reception staff always sound mildly irritated, I've had some good care at Village Vet, in particular when my dog had an eye injury. But the prices are insane, extortionate and unjustifiable. A single visit here makes it clear why private equity are buying up chains of vet clinics: they are pure profit centres.

There's something acutely unpleasant and cynical about exploiting people's worry about their pet's illness or injury, and the lack of options other than these chains, especially in central London. So I'm off once again.

Fantastic staff

On Wednesday morning lastweek our dog was hit by a car and as he is registered with The Village Vet in Whittlesford and is close by I rushed him there. I ran in and told them what happened and the receptionist rushed to get the nurses to come get him. The receptionist offered us tea and coffee and was very kind and compassionate. The vetinary staff checked my dog over and made him comfortable with pain relief and once he was stable we were able to see him. They kept us updated and he was later referred to a specialist clinic for surgery. They were just amazing and made me feel confident he was being well cared for and was safe.
I cannot thank them all enough. My dog Chester has now had his surgery and on the road to recovery. Fantastic staff all round

I had the unfortunate experience of finding a dead cat

I had the unfortunate experience of finding a dead cat (still warm) in the road whilst cycling. I phoned the practice, where the receptionist was of great assistance. I bought the cat over to them, and an absolutely charming male nurse thoroughly scanned the poor chap for a chip using two machines, but no luck. I had intended to take the cat for a woodland burial. However, the nurse (very Kind) took him in from me and said that he would use Facebook and other media in order to find the owner. This was of great assistance as being a cat owner, I found this case very upsetting. Excellent care thank you

Unhelpful, unkind and inconsiderate

I have been coming to this practice for two years. Today I had an appointment for a simple vaccination for one of my cats, a stray I adopted from the street. She is a very nervous cat because of her circumstances. I arrived 15 minutes late, I made a mistake on the timing. I apologised when the receptionist pointed it out and asked if they could still go ahead. It was 17:30, they close at 6pm. There was one dog patient, who was being seen. But the receptionist (not Keryann, who has always been very helpful), refused to go ahead, and the vet, who was there. pretended not to hear the conversation. My cat was very distressed from the journey - I asked again to please find 5 minutes for us, that's how long the vaccinations take, explained that I had come by taxi and that my cat hates being taken out of her territory, the answer was "there is a 5 minute tolerance for appointments- you should check the T&Cs" - which is an absurd comment! The number of times I have been made to wait for much, much longer than that! I was shocked at the complete lack of empathy for the poor cat, and also towards me. I left and had to wait for an Uber to take us back home. I will not be going back.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding care from Village Vet…

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding care from Village Vet Highgate & Hampstead!
I can’t thank the wonderful team at Village Vet Highgate and Hampstead enough — especially Sheldon and Sasha. They were incredibly efficient, compassionate, and supportive when our puppy Margot had a potential toxic accidental intake. It was such a stressful situation, but they acted quickly and with such professionalism that we immediately felt Margot was in the best hands.
After a couple of nights in hospital, Margot thankfully cleared all her tests and is completely out of danger — and that’s thanks to their prompt and expert care. Beyond their clinical excellence, Sheldon and Sasha were also emotionally supportive throughout the ordeal, keeping us informed and reassured. It’s clear that they genuinely care about the animals they treat and the families behind them.
We’re so grateful for everything they did. Thank you, Sheldon, Sasha, and the entire Village Vet team, for taking such amazing care of Margot! 🐾💛

Unacceptable customer service

I have been a loyal customer for 15 years. Today I had an appt at 4.45pm which I arrived on time after a little difficulty trying to convince my dog to go in. Once I was there the receptionist did not greet me or ask my name.

To cut a long story short I gave her my name and she said I did not have an appt much to my horror I corrected her and showed the text message to confirm

She went away and came back to tell me the appt was cancelled as I was 4 minutes late!!

They did not offer me another appt or be nice to say wait and I can be seen soon!

Customer service is unacceptable and have left the practice to go elsewhere

A formal complaint has been sent to the practice and head office

I do not recommend this practice

Nearly killed my dog with misdiagnosis

We took our dog, Bailey, here for years, and they have been absolutely useless. Bailey was suffering from heart failure, and one of the key signs was a persistent cough. We raised our concerns with the vets, but the vet told us it was likely due to a collapsed trachea. They prescribed Metacam, which masked the symptoms and ultimately made his condition much worse.

Our poor dog was suffering, and we had no idea until he was admitted to their emergency vets, struggling to breathe due to fluid building up on his lungs. He nearly died. When I confronted the vets about this, they tried to lie and claim they had warned us. I requested the consultation notes for all of our appointments, and it was clear that no such warnings had ever been documented. When challenged, they said it was “from recollection.”

Bailey’s treatment while under their care was disturbing. A staple was incorrectly placed in his face, and they struggled to remove it. Instead of dealing with our complaint properly, the vet passed us onto their indemnity insurers, who were just as unhelpful.

I’ll be lodging a formal complaint with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. The people responsible for Bailey’s care should be struck off.

For anyone who loves their pet, I strongly recommend you do not use this practice. They are overpriced, unprofessional, and provide poor-quality care.

Village Vet Brackenbury

I requested medication for my cat - they sent an out of date prescription from six months ago. I didnt notice the date and sent it to the online vet to dispense. I told Village Vet, requesting the up to date prescription I have paid for. They sent a prescription for one of the two meds, but now I am having to chase them for the second prescription (which I have paid for). The admin is very sloppy and the reception staff can be cold and unfriendly.
This used to be a kind friendly independent vet practice, but now I just see £ signs in their eyes.
An update : it has taken 4 phone calls before they sent the missing prescription, When they 'sent' it, they had not attached the prescription, meaning I had to contact them again. Farcical.

not raccomanded

I found the veterinarian to be completely incompetent. The only reason I’m giving two stars instead of one is because one of the receptionists was very kind and helpful.

Frustrating & Costly Visit

Frustrating & Costly Visit
I needed an official letter confirming my cat’s parasite treatment for relocation. The clinic instructed me to apply the treatment at home—never mentioning that the vet must witness it or that the certificate would cost £203. When I returned, they refused to certify it, forcing a second unnecessary treatment and charging me twice plus the unexpected £203 fee. Three weeks later, no response to my complaint. Poor communication, hidden costs, and unfair charges.

Fraudsters with no concern for the animals

Do not use this vet.

They do not care about the animals. Their only concern is how much they can charge you and they lost their moral compass years ago.

Last night I attended their out of hours service at Village Vet Hampstead. My dog had a broken dew claw. The vet's attitude was dismissive and uncaring to the point of rudeness. But this was not the biggest problem.

The diagnosis was that claw was not infected but they would have to sedate the dog to remove the broken piece that was hanging off and then she would possibly dress the wound and although there was no infection they would put the dog on a course of anti-biotics. The reason for the anti-biotics was because 'I don't know how the dog caused the claw to break'. The cost would be £1,200. I refused their offer of treatment and was then told I had to pay £275 for the 5 minute consultation.

I was stunned. How can you justify a course of anti-biotics where there is no infection. The broken claw was hanging by a 'thread' and was about to fall off on its own accord - which it did 2 hours later. Why put an animal under sedation for no reason? Of course the reason is money.

Rewind 4 years: This time the dog had an upset tummy. I booked an out of hours appointment at the same practice. The dog vomited on the way to the vet and showed immediate signs of improvement; however, I attended, was given a consultation and a probiotic paste. Cost £350. But that was not the end of it. The vet highly recommended that the dog be kept in their animal hospital at a cost of £1,000 for the night, excluding any treatment. I refused their offer. The dog was fine the next day.

This practice is well known for ripping off people. They are a disgrace to the veterinary profession. I am also disappointed that my own vet - Beaumont Sainsbury Vet Hospital - recommended I attend this practice, when they should be reporting them for mal-practice.

They messed up a blood test and then…

They messed up a blood test and then told us it was 'normal' when in fact there had been an error. With our dog some weeks later ending up at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals at great expense, this blood test would have been vital in starting preventative care. Generally speaking we used three different practices and there were mistakes in all three. And when you send in a complaint, they just pass on to the VDS and if you read the trustpilot reviews for that you'll get the idea.

PLEASE DO NOT GO! STAY FAR AWAY!

I am absolutely furious and heartbroken at the way Village Vet handled my beloved dog’s care. I trusted them, poured thousands of pounds into their so-called “expertise,” and in the end, they did next to nothing to help her. In fact, they made her WORSE. Every visit felt like a money grab—expensive tests, vague answers, minimal treatment—and still no improvement. My dog was visibly deteriorating, and instead of taking real action or showing compassion, they just kept pushing bills and false hope. She passed away after suffering for too long under their negligent care, and honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they contributed to her decline. Reading through other reviews, I see it wasn’t just me—this is a PATTERN. The same complaints, over and over. People spending a fortune and losing their pets because this place is more about profit than proper veterinary care. It’s disgusting. They should be ashamed, and honestly, this clinic needs to be SHUT DOWN before more animals suffer the same fate. My heart is broken and my trust in vets has been shattered because of Village Vet.ps- this happened in 2019 but i feel this needs to be shared.
