I have been coming to this practice for two years. Today I had an appointment for a simple vaccination for one of my cats, a stray I adopted from the street. She is a very nervous cat because of her c... See more

Night time emergency
I helped rush my neighbours little dog to this vets in the early hours of the morning, she was very unwell. When we eventually got let in, the nurse immediately rushed her to down to the vet, a little while later, the vet came upstairs, she asked the owners to go into a consulting room, she then proceeded to sit down at a computer and start typing without a mention of how the dog was! I know she obviously had to ask questions to build up a picture of what had happened, but at least tell them what they had found so far and how their dog was doing!! When I asked what they thought was wrong, she said a long word which included Gastro.......?? Then whilst still typing, no eye contact she said "she is very poorly and will probably die!!!!" What kind of way is this to tell loving owners this devastating prognosis!! I was absolutely disgusted with her attitude and lack of compassion, maybe she was annoyed at being woken up, but this is no way to speak to people. She then perked up when taking payment was mentioned. I know it's a business, you have to make money, but try being a bit kinder and empathetic to the people paying your wages.
BTW the lovely little dog didn't die, she's a fighter, all the other staff they have dealt with have been wonderful, very caring, keeping them updated when they say they will. Maybe they could give customer service training to their nighttime colleague
No compassion
I lost my little dog but the vets were awful. All they cared about was making sure I could afford to have him euthanised… £1500 I would have paid double to make sure he was pain free. This practice is an absolute disgrace. If you care about your pet go elsewhere. Why do vets become vets if they obviously don’t care. They made an awful experience much worse. I cannot even bear to walk past them.

Dangerous fraudsters
Village Vet is owned by Mars Inc—look them up. Mars is a pet food conglomerate notorious for unethical animal treatment, child slavery and widespread deforestation. They also manufacture dangerously low-quality pet foods such as Pedigree and Whiskas. That alone would give me pause, but my own experience with Village Vet’s West Hampstead branch leaves me no choice but to warn fellow pet owners.
I trusted this clinic for nearly eleven years, believing my cat was in capable hands. From 2015 to 2025, I spent thousands of pounds ensuring he received top-quality care. Initially, Christian looked after us; more recently, it was Rosa—no issues until now. However, they misdiagnosed my cat three times in succession. Each consultation was more distressing than the last, culminating in an appalling visit at the West Hampstead branch. Rather than admitting their errors, they doubled down, focusing on fees over genuine concern for my pet’s welfare.
Clearly, the clinic prioritises profit above all else. Their emphasis on upselling treatments and tests felt relentless. I tried to remain patient despite earlier mistakes, but it became impossible to ignore the way we were treated. If you care about your pet’s well-being, consider what it means to place them in the hands of a practice driven by corporate interests and profit margins.
Read the negative reviews for yourself and you’ll understand what I’m referring to. I won’t tell you not to register your pet here—legally, you can. But if you really value your cat or dog, if you want competent, respectful and compassionate veterinary care, stay well clear of this practice.
DO NOT GO NEAR VILLAGE VETS
So I live near the coolock village vets so that was my preferred vet.
Everything started out good with them. Always friendly and very attentive with my dog.
I had to get my dogs teeth cleaned so they said the Beaumont village vets were the only ones near me that could do that procedure.
As well as my dogs teeth he was actually showing signs of limping with his right leg.
I asked if they could do x rays on his leg as the he was limping got more than a week.
They asked me to drop off my dog at 2pm for the dental procedure so I got off work early to drop him in.
I dropped him off and returned home.
An hour went by and then two hours. I decided to ring them and they told me after two hours that he hasn’t actually gone in to get the procedure even though they told me he was due to be done at 2:30pm.
I said okay is he due to go in now ? The girl in the Beaumont village vets he’s due to go in now in thirty mins. She said il ring you to let you know he’s gone in.
So a half an hour went by and then another hour. I decided to ring and the girl said oh yes your dog is finished the procedure.
I said you were supposed to ring me to let me know he was going in and she said oh yes sorry I forgot.
I picked him up and then for the following week I noticed he couldn’t open his mouth or fully open it without whimpering in pain.
The results also came back from the x rays and they told me and my partner that he’s going to need surgery on the right leg because the joint isn’t matching up with two parts of his leg. Also, the other leg will have to be performed on as the right leg will be resting and the left leg will be taking the weight due to the right resting. Of course the surgery for one leg was going to cost €3000.
His pain never went away with his mouth so for two months we were back and forward and he was on pain medication for those two months.
One pill was making him bleed from his penis and also the strength in his legs was non existent. I decided to stop giving him the pill they prescribed and straight away the blood stopped and he regained strength in his legs.
I still persisted to them that they caused the pain in his jaw and he showed no signs in improving so they suggested two procedures to help heal his jaw. One procedure was costing €700 and another €900. A problem they caused was now costing me nearly €1000 to fix.
Shortly after they told me this news about the procedures he had an accident while I was out at the shops. When I went to touch him I couldn’t go near him as he was in excruciating pain. My mother in law and I decided to take him to a different vet to get a different opinion.
We showed them the x rays and gave them a full update to bring them up to speed and they said he has a spinal injury which we can treat. They said his leg doesn’t have any problems from looking at the x rays so he doesn’t need surgery and he just needed rest and an injection for the pain followed by medication.
That was about a week and a half ago.
If you were to look at my dog about two months ago you would think he was on his way out the door.
Now he’s back to normal and jumping 3-4 foot off the floor onto my bed. That’s what he use to do.
I am not joking when I say this. DO NOT go near this place.
I think the problem is because they’re a franchise and it’s treated like a business or corporate machine. I don’t feel like they care enough. The lack of follow up to ensure the dog is okay. The wrong diagnosis and suggesting more procedures when there’s nothing actually wrong and offering the simple advice of just resting the dog. No they want 7-900 euro for a procedure to fix a problem they created.
Family run vets are the way to go. Smaller independent vets.
My dad has had problems with village vets for his own dog too and he is changing to a different vet.
I will never return to these ever again.
Your pet is actually in danger with this company.
Very nice vets
I have been using Village Vets Berkhamsted due to my guinea pig being poorly. They have done blood tests and a scan and although it was relatively expensive, it doesn't seem to be any more expensive than any other vet. They have taken numerous blood samples, which is difficult with guinea pigs, but only charged me once due to the little amount of blood they can take each time. They seem to be very knowledgeable and really care about what's best for my piggies. I would recommend them.
They will kill your pet, be careful
My sister took my beautiful chihuahua without my consent while I was away, she fell ill and the local village vet in Enfield didn't want to treat her. She was taken to this hell hole, village vet. dr mary fletcher sent me a message knowing for well I was abroad, only used WhatsApp. I had to call my sister to put me through to her. Over the phone, she tried to convince me to put my baby to sleep and I made it clear that I want to see her, be there for her, didn't want her to euthanize her and got on the plane. When I got back, I rushed to this vet, dying to be with my baby, then the monster comes out, tells me that my one and only baby has died. They neglected her, she had poo all over her, they didn't bother cleaning her, charged my sister thousands, approximately £3000 for such a small pet, for one night in their care. They ripped her off. My sister had no choice but to use a credit card to pay for the unfair cost. Dr fletcher quickly walked out of the room, avoiding eye contact, i knew she's done something to my baby. When I saw my beautiful baby, she was dead, I believe she put her to sleep without my consent. Telling lies about how much pain she was in. I took her to pdsa before leaving her with my sister and they confirmed all is okay. Apparently she died of kidney failure, that never came up in the scan done by pdsa 4 weeks before this. Please please protect your pet and don't believe anything they say, do not take your pet to them, don't trust them. I have made an official complaint, they never replied, taking it to royal veterinary centre now, I want every penny that was taken for my baby's treatment. Wish I could do more, sue them for how much pain they have caused me. I'm emotionally devastated, extremely disappointed and saddened, been in tears every day since 4th April. I know my baby was waiting for me, and they took her life. I could only hope GOD will do justice and punish them 🙏
Please do not take your pet there

I didn’t believe the negative reviews at first, but sadly, they were all true. The staff are rude and incompetent.
My cat had eye surgery and later began suffering sudden seizure-like episodes. One evening, her condition became so severe that I called their Hampstead branch ( St Helen’s where I’m registered. I want to note that the St Helen’s team tries their best to help their patients. You can see and feel that they care). The receptionist told my that they couldn’t assist and advised me to take an Uber or black cab to Queen Mother’s Hospital for Small Animals which is over an hour away because she was under their care which was not true. Frida was discharged from the hospital.
When I called the hospital and explained the situation, they were shocked and angry that Village Vet Hampstead had refused to help. Village Vet was my cat’s primary vet, and they let me down.
Another negative experience with them. (my cat was due to see the neurologist team from a different hospital on the 8/5) I was advised by the neurologist that my cat should be taken to my emergency vet to be monitored because she experienced more episodes. Sadly, my cat passed away, before she could see the other specialist. When I went to collect her ashes yesterday, the experience was heartbreaking. I walked out with the bag, but thankfully I checked inside. My surname was misspelled, and more disturbingly, the casket was wrong. I had requested a white cat not a black one.
Naturally, I was devastated and angry. When I informed the receptionist, I was told they would investigate and call me back. Six hours later, I still hadn’t heard anything, so I had to follow up myself. I was told a staff member had made a mistake and they were “so sorry.” But honestly — if they can’t even get something this sensitive right, how can you trust them with your pet?
I’ve submitted two complaints already. They have a new practice manager, but she clearly needs to make serious improvements. Right now, the Hampstead Village Vet location is not a place I would recommend for any pet.
Once again — avoid this place if you want good, compassionate service. I want to highlight that St Helen's vet team has done a lot to help my cat. No idea why it shows as a negative review on their site when I wrote a negative review about the Hampstead one
Village Vet Highgate 5 Star Customer Service Satisfaction
I have been a Customer with Village Vet for almost 5 years now. One of my cats developed very unhealthy scratching disorder, he scathed his nose, around eyes, years to blood and bite his tail, I was very concerned. He was not neutered either. I brought him to VILLAGE VET HIGHGATE, VET DR called Shelton was in charge of my cat neutering and skin biopsies. The neutering was very successful, operation and biopsy stitches all healed very well.
VET Shelton is a highly professional animal Doctor, he is very knowledgeable and specialised. He dealt with my cat's scratching issues - and prescribed my cat medication that helps my cat with his scratching/self harming issue. The medication works, my cat is no longer stressed out and his skin does not bleed any more. I am very satisfied with help and support my cat and I received and very grateful to VET Shelton and his team who provided me with lots of re-assurance and Customer Care. I highly recommend VET Shelton and his team, very professional, approachable, experienced and friendly Team, Thank You!
A great vet practice
We've been taking our cat and dog to Village Vet Winchmore Hill for years and always had fantastic service. The people there are kind, it's pretty easy to get an appointment, there's parking at the back. I just came across all the negative reviews on this site and thought it might be worth providing some balance.
Very very disappointing
Very disappointed…went to clip my dog’s nails today…the nurse couldn’t do it as she sensed my dog was getting scared (he has done it many times earlier with his groomer though) …so she left it at that but I was charged the full price for it…not sure why! For the 10 mins that the nurse spared for me ????
It’s unfortunate that’s they do not have much competition here and so pet owners have to go back to them 😠
Excellent care
My cat Albus was very poorly & Village Vet worked tirelessly to diagnose & treat him. He was in their hospital all weekend & the vets (Jennifer D & Anna) kept me informed of his condition throughout the weekend, and they were compassionate & kind to me (as a very distressed pet owner!) I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this vet surgery.

I've witnessed an Irish vet during the night kicking dogs bandaged up. Cruelty upon belief but nothing is done. Violence to animals definitely goes on at this practice. I've lived in Belsize village for 10 years. I've seen graphic abuse to dogs during the early hours.
Over priced and poor service
If you want to pay Blackrock clinic prices for your dog, go here!
They charge you for everything, prices are more expensive and quite frankly it is rubbish service, I went to Tallaght and Clondalkin.
I could write an essay here on the amount of times they lost tests, charged me a small fortune for an ear infection 150 euro where previous vets would charge for the drops. They charged for a lab and never bothered to give me the results.
Also charged me for urine tests when I went with my dog saying I think he has a kidney infection, I was a Month before I got anti biotics because they kept losing the tests.
They are joke and charge you a fortune, go to a local small business vet and your animals will be better cared for.
Uncompassionate reception staff
The vets were great but I'm so disappointed in the reception staff. When my cat passed and they were informed by the referral team at DWR, they didn't cancelled the pet plan with me, I then had to tell them to cancel it?! Then they STILL charged me for it the next month. When I called up they were reluctant to do anything and said the accounts team would get in contact. It's really drawn out a horrible experience into something extra stressful. They also sent me through the incorrect pet's bills when I needed them for the insurance and were just overall quite insensitive about the whole experience of losing my pet.
They were rude sometimes, told me my flea drops were ready when they weren't making me make unnecessary trips out to pick it up, no apologies made.
I would not recommend them for somewhere that is compassionate and caring. The vet care was good, however, can't fault the vets or nurses at Whittlesford.
The worst vet you can imagine!!!
The worst vet ever!!!! All they want is your money, ZERO care for your dog!! If you are thinking to sign up with these guys, DON'T!! Look for a private vet which is actually ONE person, one vet and not a money hungry chain. I've been with them for 3 years now, every single time I go there, they are very arrogant and not happy to help you at all! They act like they are doing me a favor even tho I am paying them every month. The vets are very young and no experience. Every time I go there I leave pissed off and annoyed by them. All they want is MONEY MONEY MONEY in return they give you no care, no attention to the poor animal. They say they have an emergency service included in my package!!! Dont fall for this, this is all bullsh*t and just another way for them to charge you TRIPLE if god forbid something happens to your dog. I don't recommend this vet at all!!!
Primrose Hill is Ace!
They were there for my elderly little girl in my time of need and excellent. They worked with me and my budget and the front desk was really caring and spoke to me about their preventative care payment plan which makes it more manageable. The vets were really great w my girl and reassured me all the way. Finally my 18 year old cat is back to herself (for now!). They are open MWF only, and if you need emergency care, you need to go to St John's Wood!
Unfortunately vets keep leaving
Unfortunately vets keep leaving. As advertised I discussed my dogs itchy paws and before the vet even looked at my dogs paws she discussed money. On the whole it has been great but the constant change of vets made me leave.
