Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 305 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complain about terrible customer support, excessively long phone wait times, and unhelpful automated virtual assistants that make reaching a real human being nearly impossible. People also report frustrating technical service issues, severely delayed broadband connections, unexpected billing charges, and poor communication regarding overall account management. Though some customers encountered frustrating delays and poor service, a few reviewers were satisfied with individual staff members who provided professional and prompt assistance. Consumers noted that when they finally managed to connect with knowledgeable representatives, their technical problems, installation issues, and general inquiries were handled efficiently.

I wish I could give 0 stars

I wish I could give 0 stars. The worst customer support I have ever experienced. My contract is approaching maturity, however I am unable to provide the cancellation notice because I can only do so by calling the customer support and they keep directing me to the wrong team and then again back in the queue multiple times for a total of over 2 hours.

Support is crap - online system test outcome cannot be trusted

when the service is up it is good. when it goes down it takes days to rectify, and therein lies the problem. It is practically impossible for residential customers to report faults. Business can report faults online effectively, but residential customers are pointed to the phone 1908, which failed to connect from two different service providers.

Our service went down yesterday, most probably weather related here in Dublin. The neighbourhood WhatsApp is in a spin. I understand this can happen in a storm. What I cannot accept is the Virgin Media online system which asks for your account number so it can check the link returns green lights everywhere to say there is no outage. However, logging in to the router clearly shows that the internet is down. (did all the usual reboot etc etc)

Same happened last time, and if you try to pick it up with them afterwards theyt insist that the link was up and there must have been another problem on the premises. I guess that is one way to ensure that you are meeting your service uptime KPI's!!

Disgraceful contempt for customers

Absolutely useless to try to contact. Completely misleading statement on their website:

"Delivering exceptional customer services is our number one priority."

If being expected to wait in a queue for 50 minutes to speak with an advisor, or the chat bot saying they're too busy to deal with customers, is "exceptional" customer service, I wonder what poor service is like.

Disgraceful contempt for customers. It's the typical situation, milk the customers, fail to provide sufficient staff but charge plenty so that shareholders can be rewarded, while ignoring customers.

Poor customer service.

I took a contract on the 2 of December for self install, when the equipment arrived I discovered it wasn't comparable with the existing connection so I contacted virgin to arrange an engineer, they scheduled call out for 23 of December, on the afternoon of the 22 I got a call cancelling and rescheduling for the 20th of January, a further 27 days, when I tried to query it, I was told to contact virgin.
I did this that day and was assured even after repeatedly asking that no the engineer would still be arriving on the 23,so I took the day off and waited, no engineer, that day I called and cancelled my subscription making it clear I had been given assurances and I had lost a day's work from this, I also raised a complaint online and was told I would receive a response within 10 days.
I received an email with no details thanking me for my complaint and stating the matter had now been resolved.
That was all that was said nothing else.
Then on the 20th of January I received a txt saying my engineer would be arriving within the next hour to connect me, I had to phone this engineer and tell him that that contract had been cancelled on the 24th of December.
Very poor communication no customer care as far as I am concerned and an incredibly long time to expect to wait for a connection.
Pity really always thought virgin were generally dependable with a good level of service.

Avoid like the plague!

Used switcher.ie to move to Virgin Broadband and cancelled within 24 hrs. They never contacted me to see when my current provider contract was finished - instead they immediately took over the line. Then after I cancelled, they never bothered to cancel the SIRO line activation, despite me phoning twice to confirm everything was done. So not only did they cost me 3 weeks of pre-paid broadband service, I am now without any broadband for close to a week, and I work from home.

Their customer service varies wildly from competent associates (Ky thank you for actually taking the 2 minutes to listen and help!) that understand the issue, follow-up and take corrective action, to the clueless that lack basic understanding of their own technical processes.

I can highly recommend Ivertec if you're looking to move - and have now moved to Vodafone whose customer service has been excellent so far!

Mobile app is terrible

Mobile app is terrible, try to register for my account as I wasn’t able to pay my bill in store like normal. Email verification didn’t come through until the following day. Called customer care, on hold for 40 minutes to be told by staff the call would probably disconnect when they transfered me to the payment stage as it doesn’t work correctly. Text me a payment link that also timed out and didn’t work. Make it very difficult to give them money.

Do not go near Virgin Media Mobile

Do not go near Virgin Media Mobile. Absolutely terrible service, terrible customer service, terrible technical help. I couldn’t believe how unhelpful they were. From getting my new SIM card I could not receive calls for 7 days and no one did anything constructive to help. I was told I could be another 4/5 days without incoming calls, so I bailed before the cooling off period ended. So bad.

On December 16th 2026 we signed up for…

On December 16th 2026 we signed up for full fibre broadband with Virgin Media Ireland for new build property which has connection for full fibre. We had Virgin Media broadband already in the past, so we were under impression that they can handle house move request without issues. House Move process had to be done first which has been processed on 19th December. We were told that we will be sorted with broadband before Christmas. Fast forward to today, after numerous calls, hours spent in IVR and on hold with different agents where we had to repeat the same story to each person, countless mistakes with 'our order' and 'reloading order', being told that 'our order' hasn't been processed at all, technician not coming when agreed, requests to speak with Supervisor refused, agents saying that we can log a complaint on their website if we are unhappy. We were told that tech visit is re-scheduled for 27th Jan, on separate call agent said technician is available on 21st Jan, on third call agent said that no technician visit is booked at all in their system. It's worth to mention that we were charged for service that hasn't been received as well but we were ensured that refund will be received. Subsequently, we decided to stop this vicious cycle and cancel our account with Virgin Media. On the call Cancellation agent confirmed that cancellation will be processed until COB, tech visit cancelled if scheduled and cancellation confirmation received via email. Needless to say, cancellation email hasn't been received yet and to our surprise, this morning Virgin Media technician appeared at our door as nobody notified relevant tech team that we cancelled our account and technician visit as well. Shocking experience and in disbelief that regulators can allow something like this. Unfortunately, it seems this is not the end of our saga with Virgin as we need to call again to be probably told that account wasn't cancelled after all as requested when we were ensured that this has been done. In the meantime, we switched to another ISP, they are answering their calls within few minutes, lovely and knowledgeable agents answering queries and we had all agreed within a few days with all documents received straight away.

Too bad 0 stars is not an option

I am extremely frustrated with my Virgin Media service. As a WFH employee, reliable internet is a necessity, yet my connection is incredibly slow. Apps fail to load and basic tasks are a struggle. I am using a brand-new Mac, so the issue is clearly with the provider, not my hardware.
The customer service experience has been equally dismal. It is virtually impossible to reach a human being, and when I do, I am forced to wait in a queue for hours.
Most concerning, however, is the billing discrepancy. My Virgin Media app repeatedly showed a balance of €0, leading me to believe the automated texts I was receiving about an outstanding balance were 'dodgy' or fraudulent. Because the app failed to display my true balance, I have now been hit with late fees. Between the exorbitant prices, hidden fees, and poor service, my experience with this company has been a 'big fat zero.' I expect a resolution regarding these late fees and my connection speeds immediately.

5 Star Review well deserved by Saksia!!!!!

I seem to be one of the few exceptions here giving a 5 star review.

My reason for giving 5 stars is because of the wonderful and extremely helpful staff member Sakshi.
She was on technical support last week when I phoned. I had recorded many programmes for the month of December and when I went to play them in January none of them could be played. I phoned Virgin media last week and Sakshi answered my call. She was friendly and very patient with me as I am not familiar with tech things. Sakshi talked me through all of the things I needed to do and I was apologising that I was taking up too much of her time and she said not to worry and she would solve the issue for me. She even asked me to record a small bit of a current programme and play it back and it worked. Unfortunately a day later it was back to having issues. I phoned again and luckily Saksia was looking after me again and she went through the procedure again and everything was perfect. She even phoned me two days later ( she had a day off the previous day) and asked if I had any issues. She was the best customer service person that has ever looked after me from a call centre. She restored my faith in Virgin. She was calm, explained things so I could understand them, was very reassuring and so polite and pleasant. An exceptional staff member for any company. I hope Virgin rewards her for her exemplary customer service. Thank you Saksia I really appreciate your help in solving the issue.

Invalid SIM card.

I changed mobile phone providers to VM a few weeks ago. From the start, things went wrong. Eventually after two days spent on Messenger, I was able to make and receive calls, however only when I was at home! Now, having restarted my phone I am back to square 1. Invalid SIM card is the message on my phone since I switched.

Hi just wanted to leave a review on my mams behalf . Two lads who looked after my mams WiFi at home were so diligent and helpful. Were in and out in less than 30 mins. Lad was called Andy and couldn't remember the other lads name tall bloke with beard from Coolock. Two absolute gents and wore shoe coverings in the house even though we told them it wasn't needed.
Absolute credit and very good at their jobs

Worst website ever

Worst website ever, virtual assistant as much use as a cholcolate teapot, no option to speak to a human. Now in a queue with estimated wait time of 40 minutes - why - because it is impossible to login to the account online, the username and password resets do not work. If there was any viable option to this company I would jump at it. Appalling service.

Shocking customer service

I have been in Spain since early December and cannot call any Irish landline including the Virgin helpline number. I have been on to them every 3 or 4 days and the excuses have been laughable. Now I cannot ring any number. I have been in contact with several other people here who have the same problem. It's just Virgin - all other networks are working fine. Like a previous reviewer I have been told numerous times that my case has been escalated but no such escalation shows on my account. I also needed to contact a hospital which only had a landline number. Their customer service is absolutely shocking. I have been given so many excuses as to why I'm experiencing this problem, none of which are the fault of Virgin. Once I get home I'll be looking to change provider as I'm not getting a service I'm paying for

Avoid Avoid Avoid.

The single worst experience as a consumer that I have ever had. I ported 4 phones from another carrier and the managed to terminate 2 accounts and the remaining two phones are receiving by each others text msgs and calls. Absolute nightmare. I spent 1.5 hrs on the phone yesterday with no success because after that time the agent told me I needed to be transferred somewhere else. After 1.5 hrs already spent I had to get back to work and had to cut the call. I am currently 45 mins waiting for someone to pick up my call. Customer service is a joke and their technical ability is obviously a major issue since they created this mess and not can’t fix it. I am stressed to death and have already notified the data protection commissioner given that my family’s private texts and information are going to each other. I will sue

Moved home on the 17th of December and filled in the moving form online and was supposed to be connected back up on the 19th in our new house, so the 19th comes and I get a call to say they were outside no such luck they were at my old address so I rang virgin and after 40 minutes waiting all I got was we are very sorry and the next available date is the 2nd of January had no option but to accept, 2nd of January I get a call to say they were outside again no such luck turns out they turned up to the old address for the second time and in the meantime they also took 137 euro from my bank account so I've cancelled everything with them and my direct debit and have demanded they refund me the money they stole ,I will also not be returning any of their equipment until they refund me
