Waveney Crematorium

Waveney Crematorium -such a wonderful place- quiet and peaceful. It's a pity we were not able to linger longer due to Covid. We had arranged for a series of photographs to be shown during a piece of music. Unfortunately because the sun was shining through the window it did obscure some of them when recording the video. Apart from that everything was perfect

Overall good experience but few niggles

Lovely location but no directions as to where to go to wait for "things to happen" so we kind of had to amble over when saw the hearse arriving then was a bit of to do over who was going in first etc. Would have been nice to have been met by someone or given some guidance beforehand. Wrong version of chosen song was played at end (not sure where fault lies - with funeral director or with crematorium). No sign of any crematorium staff.

The facilities could not faulted

The facilities could not faulted. If I was only commenting on my father's service, then I would have given 5 stars. It went very smoothly, everybody that had to watch online said how clear the sound and visuals were and felt like they were a part of the service.

They working together between the funeral directors and crematorium was seamless. They accommodated our request to have a drink and snack in a bag for people to take away, which is what our father would have wanted.

The only aspect that could have been better, was when my partner phoned to ask for their help regarding 'ashes in art' jewellery; this response was not helpful or accommodating, however, the funeral directors then managed this in a helpful and respectful way.

I didn't take much notice of the grounds, however, at a glance, they looked lovely.

The buildings and surrounding gardens…

The buildings and surrounding gardens are lovely. The chapel is as it should be. We were going to follow the casket in. The staff just before the casket arrived realised they had not carried out their Track and Trace methods. They then caused chaos by rushing us into the foyer by raising their voice to the attendees about what to do and where, which served to cause confusion and upset. Instead of calmly (and earlier) calling the attendees in, in an orderly fashion, they rushed around saying "do this, do that" - which most of the attendees did not hear or understand.
Going into the actual chapel was fine, except we do feel signage for seating, (as you are restricted to one side) should be clearer or the Chapel staff ensure the Chief Pallbearer, shows people to their seats. Confusion arose again here, which prevented the closest members of the family from hearing the entry music at the start.
As you know, attendees are not necessarily thinking clearly, especially the older generation and we do think your staff on the day failed in their clarity and courtesy with our attendees.
Yours - Peter and Janine Jarrett

Reply from Memoria Waveney Crematorium & Memorial Park

Dear Peter & Janine,

Firstly, please accept my very sincere condolences on your recent loss.

Secondly, thank you for taking the time to send us your recent feedback through Trustpilot, these reviews are very important to us as we constantly strive to improve the standards of service, we offer at all our Memoria facilities, we are very sorry to hear of the issues you experienced on the day of your service.

We have of course, as always thoroughly reviewed your service, interviewing our management team, taking accounts from staff on the day and looking at all the CCTV footage with our executive team.

It seems that on the day in question, your Funeral Director East of England Co-Operative Funeralcare experienced significant operational difficulties. The four pall bearers arrived timely for this 1pm service on Tuesday 8th December, but with news that the cortege was running late by some 20 minutes. We can clearly see that the family had also arrived in good time. The weather was seemingly fine, with no rain and family members can be seen outside chatting and greeting each other. Our staff on site reported that the chosen Celebrant was a very calm individual, who extended the courtesy of advising us that his content would take 22 minutes to address. Of course, our management and staff are also mindful, that during this very busy time, all slots are booked and indeed, a 2pm service would be following your own service.

Footage reviewed shows everyone continuing to wait for the hearse to arrive, with little or no sign of anyone being rushed or anyone becoming further distressed. Of course, our representatives would be very mindful of the need to comply with the governments track and trace requirements, as well as getting everyone seated in good time and of course, ensuring that no further delays were incurred. It appears that at 1.20pm on the footage the celebrant suggests getting everyone seated, so commenced the track and trace procedures, we can see some choosing to use the App with their phones, some completing manual paperwork, but there does not appear to be any sign of people being harried or rushed? We can see that those who chose to follow the late arriving deceased were at this point using hand sanitisers.

We can clearly see our site Manager observing before she personally attended the delayed service, there are no signs of her rushing anybody or any signs of anyone becoming distressed. When the delayed hearse arrived, the funeral director advised that their florist was also late, so floral tributes were late being bought in to the service to accompany the deceased. Footage also then shows, the funeral director walking in passing family members who were trying to seat themselves. Our sound recordings show the music commencing as the coffin was brought into the chapel, so this is heard from the outset of this delayed service.

At Memoria, we take delivery of the highest possible of service standards very seriously and had we been able to see that any of our representatives were at fault, or if there were any signs of failings in our customer service delivery, we would address them as a matter of urgency, but we cannot having thoroughly reviewed every detail, see that we were at fault with any aspect of the problems caused by the late arrival of your funeral director.

I trust you can see that we have been very detailed in our review of your feedback and if we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to respond to me personally at your convenience.
Sincerely, Frank Meilack, Director of Community Engagement

A beautiful setting...

A beautiful setting...
Such an incredibly difficult time with so many emotions and challenges to deal with, but for a moment, standing in the tranquil gardens, watching the sun break through the clouds and the sky divers sail through the sky, a smile came with that certainty that we chose exactly the right place to say goodbye...
Thank you to all involved.
