Stale bread on sale here, hurry while stocks last!

Bought a bloomer loaf from South Harrow Wenzels today. Disappointingly it was stale, 100% not freshly baked today. The crust was rock hard and the bread had that familiar day-old taste and texture. Not cheap at £2.50 a loaf so it’s unacceptable to fob off customers with less than fresh goods. I’ve been a regular customer of Wenzels for more than 30 years and this has happened a few times before but I’ve given them the benefit of the doubt. No more. I won’t be shopping there again, it’s Waitrose bread for me from now on. Or Lidl. Even their bread is fresher and just as tasty as Wenzels. I would advise anyone else buying Wenzels bread to give the loaf a good squeeze before handing over your money. Note to Wenzels - your customers CAN tell the difference between fresh and stale bread you know, we’re not peasants! Treat us with some respect.

always buy a loaf on Saturday but for two out of three weeks i have walked out of the shop without purchasing because the bread is simply not baked enough they have obviously expanded the business so swiftly that they are cutting corners on bake times and i speak as a customer who remembers their bread and rolls from thirty years ago when they were magnificent

Very Disappointing

Very disappointed with Wenzels today. We normally buy their steak slices as a treat, as they are usually tastier, have more steak inside them and are much nicer than those baked by the majority of well known brands. Today, there was a little more than a thin layer of gravy in the six steak slices we bought, which were expensive. In addition, some of the slices looked as if they had been reheated, as the steak gravy had dried out. As a result I will never buy from them again and cannot possibly recommend them. Sometimes trying to cut down to reduce costs will also reduce customers. Very disappointing!

A Bakery that no longer makes Cakes?

For years I've purchased the family's celebration cakes from Wenzel's, but when I went to order a couple of weeks ago, I was advised that Wenzel's no longer do celebration cakes!

Who's heard of bakery that doesn't make cakes?!

Needless to say, after being a customer since the 90's, I feel that Wenzel's have lost their "local bakery" feel by expanding all over the place and I suppose this is what they are now focussing on rather than service.

The prices for bloomer loaves have soared so I rarely go in there now as items are cheaper elsewhere.

Very sad.

Unhygienic and dirty place with obnoxious staff

I went to the bakery today at Joel Street, Pinner. The cake I bought was stale and hard, the woman who served me was nasty, rude and smirked knowing she had sold me a stale cake - which I binned when I came home. The hygiene standards are substandard as the floor was sticky and the counter filthy. I will be reporting this place to the Council. Lazy filthy staff are selling stale baked goods! Pinner deserves better than this!

Went in to get lunch for work

Went in to get lunch for work. The lady said it would take more than 5 minutes to make a sandwich in the morning. I used to work at Wenzels and I can tell you I’ll do it in 30 seconds. Her excuse was “we have to slice the bread and then put the filling in”. You have a machine to slice it which takes 10 seconds.

Ordered in deliveroo from Hornchurch store

Ordered in deliveroo, and the toasted baguette was rock hard, and my chicken salad baguette was not sent at all. The receipt had items crossed off, and that was left uncrossed. Staff are useless at Hornchurch, as this has happened so many times. I spent almost £20 and ended up with nothing to eat for myself. Wenzel Hornchurch train your staff better.

I had a small issue with one of the iced buns which I returned back to them. The lady behind the counter understood the issue and opologised for their mistake. I was offered a refund or replacement. I exepted the replacement, which was perfect. The assistant dealt with this very professionaly and is a credit to Wenzels. Many thanks.

Wenzels Enfield Town

The Wenzels in Enfield Town is very friendly and the bread I buy is the brown uncut, very nice and fresh, and there stamp system means you can claim a free loaf every 10 you buy.

Ditch Wenzels Poole store

The new Poole store was eagerly anticipated by many. Unfortunately that eagerness has definitely waned. When they first opened it was great, good atmosphere, good food, good service. I don’t know why things changed, but I suspect it coincided with a new store manager coming on board. The food is ok, but I’m not joking when I say I watched this manager “javelin” a customer’s baguette behind the counter, in front of the customer! Unbelievable. I’ve noticed that morale must be very low there, as the turnover of staff is phenomenal. Nobody seems to stay very long before walking or being fired instantly. A friend’s daughter got a part time job there, she lasted 2 days and quit, probably because of the new manager, who doesn’t seem to like cheerful people, and I’m not going there anymore because I want staff to appreciate my custom and give me a smile as they take my money. I must be old fashioned (I am 60 after all) but come on Wenzels, this is absolutely not up to par!
My advice to anyone reading this would be
“go to Greggs” quite honestly.

Charged twice and no refund

Charged eat in prices instead of take away. When I spoke to the person behind the counter charged me the take out price. Then I was told the first transaction was cancelled and would be refund to my account in 3 to 5 days. That was 11 days ago, and guess what no refund!
I complained online no response.

So I have had to contact my credit card company to obtain my £9.30. Avoid them like the plague robbers.
