Abels was an absolute nightmare from the beginning. I've moved internationally more than a dozen times in my life, and another dozen domestically and I have never had such an incompetent moving service. We have used Abels in the past and they were very good, but this was 20 years ago so things have clearly gone dramatically downhill.
I'll detail the issues below, but I cannot stress this enough. Do not use them. I certainly never will again. I've had far better experiences with Pickfords and Hadley and Ottaway relatively recently.
1. The sales person we contacted for a quote was slow to reply to me and would lose emails, causing days of delays.
2. He then didn't turn up to the phone consultation and sent a colleague instead. The colleague promised to send me multiple quotes,with and without crating for some sentimental items. He never did. I received one quote and none of my items were crated.
3. Abels was very slow to arrange a delivery date and kept saying we had plenty of time. This left me with a choice of only two dates when they finally agreed to set one.
4. Abels' American partner org did not give us a copy of the inventory on the day when everything was packed and loaded. They eventually emailed one after a lot of hassling from me. Abels themselves stopped answering any of my emails. Only the American company was responding.
5. I repeatedly asked when the shipment would be leaving the US and received no reply. For months, it sat in a storage site with no date for when it would leave or when I would receive it. I emailed Abels repeatedly and received no reply. I eventually gave up with email and called and was given a Whatsapp number. This was then the only way I could get a response from Abels.
6. The shipment was loaded onto the truck at the end of December. It didn't leave the US until March and processed up and down the east coast of the US before eventually making its way to London.
7. I was given no choice of delivery date and had to accommodate their schedule. I wasn't given an arrival time for the truck. I was told they would call an hour before arrival. They didn't.
8. The drivers damaged one of the trees on my street after claiming they couldn't drive the truck into the parking area for my building because of another tree. I've seen multiple moving vans the same size in this parking area. Then they noted insufficient parking as an issue on the forms.
9. All of my boxes arrived crushed, torn open, unlabelled and mis-labelled. The Abels drivers tried to blame it on the American movers.
10. The Abels movers left half the boxes at the bottom of the stairs to my flat, leaving my partner to carry them up the stairs.
11. We discovered that Abels had lost the entire top section of our dining room table. The movers insisted that it was here somewhere and kept trying to leave. It was only when I refused to sign off the papers that they started looking for it. They claimed that they had been there when the truck was reloaded and everything was there and again tried to blame the American movers.
12. I called Abels to complain and they said they would 'find it' and said they would call me back in 20 minutes. They didn't call. They called one of the drivers who told me it had been left at the warehouse and they would have it to me that afternoon.
13. The Abels movers didn't do the box count properly so my partner and I had to re-do it ourselves. They refused to let us have a copy of the checked inventory. I still haven't been sent a copy of it with their notes.
14. Abels repeatedly promised to call me back about the table top at a certain time and never did. I had to chase them constantly.
15. They eventually turned up after 6pm with the table. It was damaged.
16. I still haven't finished unpacking as the movers left without doing it. But every single box or piece of furniture I open has something broken or damaged. I haven't attempted to claim them back via the insurance but I'm sure that will be an arduous process of Abels ignoring my emails.
17. They still haven't followed up either to check on insurance, the other boxes we told them were missing, or to apologize for how terribly they handled the whole thing.
Save yourself months of stress and thousands of pounds and find other movers.

Location & size of apartment were perfect for us. Apartment was very cosy and very clean.
Communications were excellent
Brilliant link to Big C charity which made giving furniture to charity very simple. Polite hard working staff, lorry clean and tidy, nothing too difficult (had an olive tree in a huge pot!)

We used Abels to pack and move us from London to Wivenhoe in Essex. Moving is always an anxious time but Nicola, their relocation coordinator was brilliant. She kept us fully informed about everything. I really appreciated her phoning before and after the move to check everything had gone well and to answer any queries. We were moving just before the stamp duty deadline so things were extremely busy and we agreed that Abels could use another company to actually pack and move us. However I retained my contact at Abels who continued to coordinate things and liase with the other company. Nothing was to much trouble for Nicola and I have already recommended Abels to friends who are moving.

Abels have moved us several times and are holding some of our household items in storage currently. They have been fantastic and extremely helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. They take care when removing items from your home to ensure nothing gets broken, they just go that little extra to make moving less stressful. The guys that do all the removals have been great too! I used Abels for two large moves of household belongings from the UK to Hawaii, USA. Abels proved up to the task, from orchestrating the packing and shipping to guidance with the necessary red tape (customs, insurance, etc.) All went well. While there were tiny glitches on the receiving end, Abels staff did their best to calm the waters. Although they are a little higher in cost than some of their competitors, I felt I was getting what I paid for. Shout-out to Jayne, and waves to Phil, and Marie -- they often expressed concern with the ongoing process, knew when to intercede, and were not shy about using their considerable knowledge for the benefit of their clients.

I was very worried about my move due to the amount of stuff I have and whether it would be done in the time stated. However, a mob of 6 turned up and descended on the house like a horde of locusts. It was done quickly, efficiently and with great care. Everybody was superb, both the pack up team and the delivery guys. Am still in the process of unpacking but as I unpack I can see the great care that they took in wrapping up my items. I cannot thank everybody enough for all their help. It made the whole process so much easier and stress free....

They were particularly flexible when our plans changed at short notice with the move only confirmed with two days notice, the whole process was managed expertly. On the day of the move the crew were brilliant, they worked tirelessly and with no fuss to get everything completed on time. They constantly checked how we wanted things done, and what hey could do to make the move better for us. In summary, excellent service all round, we would wholeheartedly recommend Abels Moving Services.
The service through the various stages was excellent. Jayne in the office was knowledgeable and efficient and did everything to accommodate my preferred schedule, and the delivery team of two were friendly and very professional.
Abels are the best removal agents that I have ever dealt with and we shall definitely use them again.

We moved from Singapore to the UK 2 years ago 50% of our furniture has been in storage with Abel’s the other 50% was delivered to our home
On the 10th February 2025 all items finally were delivered to our new home the move was over 4 days and the experience has been seamless and their staff Tom and Chris delivered over and above our expectations.
