TERRIBLE customer support - buyer beware!

I found that the quality of AU printing is hit or miss. I printed our wedding album in both a lay flat format as well as a standard hardcover photo book. The lay flat was perfect but the print quality on the hardcover photo books was terrible. The black and white images were patchy and extremely dark and overall the sharpness of all the photos was significantly reduced. Final print quality did not match the quality shown onscreen or on pdf proofs I received.

Worse than the print quality was the abysmal customer support experience from the Artifact Uprising team. Their website makes it seem like they offer a toll free phone number for in person support but it connects to a prerecorded message which ends the call after playing. The only option for support is via email, where the AU team responds once every 24 hours, this made it incredibly time consuming to resolve issues requiring back and forth discussion. I found their support team very combative and they claimed the issue was user error. The explanations provided made no sense, and after taking the time to rebut their claims with supporting images from a variety of sources their team member simply doubled down on their explanation that this was user error and not the fault of AU.

To provide some context, the main discussion centered around how the images I used (professionally shot 4500x3000 pixel images) had a DPI of 96 when printed as a 10x10 inch image, which is below the 150 DPI cutoff. This was proven to be inaccurate based on the tools AU's linked help articles advised could be used to verify DPI, as well as the absence of any error messages from their editing tool that should flag any potential print issues when images have a DPI below 150.

The instructions provided by AU to resolve these supposed issues required leveraging external photo editing software instead of their editor tool. They did offer a credit to reprint, but the amount provided did not cover the full cost of the reprinting nor shipping. Will NEVER use Artifact Uprising again or recommend their services. I would strongly recommend anyone looking for photo printing look at other options.

Artifact uprising ruined my holiday…

Artifact uprising ruined my holiday cards and kept blaming it on me despite using the service for almost ten years prior with no issue. Their customer service was absolutely horrible. Kim could offer no assistance or advice as to why the blurry images happened other than to blame me. The photos on my end were very high quality that seemed to get reduced to very poor quality when printed. I would have been better off dealing with an AI customer service rep. I will never use them again.

Basically ruined my christmas presents

Basically ruined my christmas presents. I ordered a photo book and paid extra for fast delivery based on their estimated arrival date. 3 days after the estimated arrival date, the book still hadn't even shipped. I attempted to contact the company many times explaining that I live overseas and wouldn't be able to receive it later. Zero attempts to help or even provide a status update (I don't think the customer service people even know what's going on with production). Horrible decision ordering from them.

Apps works well, but surprise shipping costs were a killer

Just ordered so can't speak to the quality, but they absolutely RINSE you with the tax and shipping AFTER you pour the time into creating the book. Big banner said order by Dec 16th for Christmas delivery on standard shipping, but at checkout, this was not the case either. Easy to make photo books with this tool (nice layouts, good editing options), but they need to be more transparent about costs upfront.

Major issues with the default payment method

If you have used Artifact Uprising before and enjoyed the designs so you go back the next year...BE VERY CAREFUL WITH YOUR DEFAULT PAYMENT METHOD. If for whatever reason, your default payment has changed, you cannot undo it. It will continue to try charging the old card and even after spending days with support, they cannot undo that default method. You may never be able to use this website again.

I paid extra for rush shipping to…

I paid extra for rush shipping to receive my items needed for an engagement celebration. They arrived past the date, didn't have them for the celebration and only 1 of the 3 photo prints were sent. I tried chatting online with cs about this and was told too busy to get to me, just leave my problem and email. This was followed by an email from them just transcripting my text. No customer service provided! What is going on??

THE WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

On 6/1/2024, I placed my order with Artifact Uprising.
It was a big order in every way.
It was my best friend’s 60th birthday and after a ton of thought I decided that a Coffee Table Picture Book was the best idea.
I decided to use Artifact Uprising – BIG MISTAKE!

After weeks of reviewing and editing over 400 pictures, I created two 12” x 12”, Leather, Signature Layflat Photo Albums, 80 pages each. The total order cost $1,515.96.

When I placed the order, the site confirmed:
Estimated Ship Date:
Friday, June 7

I paid for Next Day Shipping, so I planned to gift the books to my friend on Saturday, 6/8/2024.

On 6/7 my order status was not update, so I emailed and left phone messages for
AU Customer Service. All customer service is on a call back or email back basis – there is no way to get in touch with customer service – VERY FRUSTRATING!

On Sat, Jun 8, 2024, at 6:58 PM I received the below response from Artifact Uprising:
Unfortunately, we won't be able to ship out your order before it's production time. The Signature LayFlat takes 8 business days in production, since the order was placed on June 1st it is expected to ship out on June 12th and be delivered on the 13th.

I appreciated the explanation but was surprised that they did not apologize for or explain why the initial information that the site provided to me was wrong and never updated.

My last chance to gift the books to my friend before she went away for the summer was Friday, 6/14/2024. So, this week I have been frantically trying to contact anyone at Artifact Uprising in any way to get an update on my order status. I sent emails and left phone messages every day.

Finally, I received a call back on Friday morning, 6/14/2024.
The woman who called told me that my order would be shipping that day, Friday, 6/14/2024 and because I paid for overnight shipping I would receive it the next day, Saturday, 6/15/2024. I asked for her to confirm our conversation with an email. She guaranteed that I would receive an email later that day confirming that the books are shipping to me Friday, 6/14/2024 and would be received the next day, Saturday, 6/15/2024.

Saturday, 6/15/2024, has come and gone. I have NOT received an email about shipping, I have NOT received the photo books, and according to the site, my books are still In Production with an Estimated Shipping Date: Friday, 6/7/2024.

At this point, I am not surprised, but I am very disappointed, I question the validity of the company and I question if I will ever receive my photo books.

This project was very important to me. I spent a lot of time and over $1500 creating a meaningful gift for my best friend’s birthday. Artifact Uprising ruined what should have been a very special exchange. And what’s worse – they don’t seem to give a damn.

I do not know what else to do except to WARN EVERYONE OUT THERE:

DO NOT USE ARTIFACTS UPRISING!
THEY LIE ABOUT PRODUCTION TIMES
YOU CANNOT GET IN TOUCH WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WHEN THEY FINALLY ANSWER YOU, THEY LIE SOME MORE!

ABSOLUTELY, THE WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE THAT I HAVE EVER HAD!

Why didn't I read these?

I have been waiting for weeks for an order placed on May 19. It has been stuck in production. When I reached out they claimed the first print was messed up, so they had to reprint it.

They have not given an update on when I can expect this order. After waiting for another week or so, I asked for the order to be canceled and refunded. They told me they could not offer a full refund and only 50% or a 50% credit towards another order. Which...no thanks.

THEY RUINED CHRISTMAS..

THEY RUINED CHRISTMAS... I sent $5000 on phonebooks for my husband for christmas... the first two books I made (I made them first because they were most important... three weeks ago to be exact) are not coming in time... AND YOU CANNOT GET THRU TO THEM ... They sent an email telling me this (not even a phone call) and offered a $25 gift ... I spent $5000... not to mention I had gone back and forth by email prior this week to make sure they would be arriving and they were PROMISED
I cannot warn you enough... if your book or project is important... do not use this site.. there are others with the same quality that actually care about their customer

Nightmare interface, zero quality assurance

The quality of the printing, binding, etc. is very good - as you would expect given the price. My negative review is based on the terrible quality of their editor interface. It crashed innumerable times while I was designing my album, and trying to edit/format text on the cover was nearly impossible. You can generate a digital proof of your album before you order, but it’s not an accurate representation of what your printed album will look like. And customer service does not really try to help. Wouldn’t recommend this site to anyone.

I will use Framebridge from now on

I ordered two photos for my dad in Northern Ireland using an address in the account app that I had used previously with no problem. I ordered him two frames for his birthday and when I hadn’t heard a shipping confirmation I emailed to ask why not. I had very curt emails from Tristan saying it’s because I used the United Kingdom in the address and not Northern Ireland. 1. This worked before so not sure why it doesn’t work now. 2. Why take so long to clarify?
3. Would a quick google from the customer service not resolve the address issue? Or they can’t be bothered to retain customers? Never again

Great quality, terrible at deadlines.

I ordered an album for my son’s 18th birthday with weeks of lead time to make sure it would be ready. The albums arrived without a title and a week late! Yes the quality was great but that was a big disappointment as it was a surprise I was so eager to make.
They did answer my email and decided to send me my order again, corrected, free of charge which was the right thing to do so thumbs up on customer service. Unfortunately, they sent the order automatically without checking with me for a date and it arrived (and got returned to them) while I was on vacation. I did catch that and asked them to hold the order until I got back and they said they cannot do that. It’s a shame to see properly handled customer service ruined by bad managerial work.

I have been using Artifact Uprising for over 2 years

I have been using Artifact Uprising for quite some time now and I have to say they are a wonderful company to purchase from. I have had a wonderful client experience each time with them. When we moved and lost our pieces to our calendar I sent an email explaining we lost them during the moving process. There was no hesitation from their part to help me and with no questions asked they sent over the pieces I needed. They just arrived in the mail today and I'm extremely impressed with the urgency and importance they take their business. I am a happy customer and will continue to shop here for years to come to continue collecting beautiful moments of my family.

AVOID

If you are even considering using them, avoid them at all costs. I ordered my engagement album from them to use as a guestbook at my rehearsal dinner. The first one they sent me was terrible. Pictures were not centre, quotes we included were not printed properly or cut off, ink stained on nearly every page. They sent a replacement and it’s somehow even worst, quotes completely off centre or not even printed on the page but overlapping with my photos.

No Quality Assurance and Horrible Experience

My photographer used this company to design and print my daughter's 1st bday photo book. I paid them an extremely high price to print the album. After a mistake on the album cover on the first book, they printed it again and charged me a discounted rate. The second book was the same as the first with the exact same errors. They then shipped a 3rd book which somehow had glue on a couple pages causing them to stick together and rip. The 4th book that arrived was finally ok. This company prides themselves on quality and producing high end products. This was the worst company I have ever worked with. No attention to detail, no quality assurance, horrible customer service and no money back after hundreds of dollars were spent. I should not have had to pay for the album at all after all the mistakes that were made. I never received any money back. DO NOT USE THEM.

Messed up printing

Consistent issues with misaligned/crooked printing. I wish I’d read the reviews here before ordering. They sent a replacement photo book but it had exactly the same issues. What a waste of money.

Artifact destroyed a once in a lifetime moment

We worked hard to make the deadlines to create a 60th Wedding anniversary book that would be presented on a Sunday. We selected a format with a four day rush turnaround, submitted six days ahead and paid for rush. We were quoted a ship date that would ensure on time delivery during the week. Then …. The book never arrived. We checked the status and it hasn’t even shipped. No notifications from customer service. No ability to talk to an actual human representative. No means of recourse. Nothing. The entire family worked on this book for a once in a lifetime occasion. Artifact destroyed that moment. Please don’t trust them with anything important to you.
