All as bad as any other
I have come to believe there must be only one actual internet company, because they are all the same. They knock on your door, promise you the moon at a really great price, but what you get is crap. Almost every day, within 15 minutes of the closing of their office, my signal starts dropping off. Most days, within an hour it's down completely, and may or may not come back up. If you persevere long enough on the phone, you'll get a tech who will start asking YOU to do their job, and want you to start unplugging and waiting, pluggin in, waiting, and blah blah blah waste of time because the problem with the signal is not in my house, it's at the source. Because my momma didn't raise any fools, I do not believe the signal just organically drops down then out as soon as the office closes, when it's not doing that when the office is open...
Use Astound only if it’s for a year or less, or you’ll regret using them
For anyone considering Astound for their internet service, be mindful that the low price comes at a cost. If you know you can switch services to another provider after 11 months, before they jack up pricing, and do so knowing that the day you cancel service needs to be on or before the day of the month you started your service with them, you might be able to save some money. But after that, you’ll pay ridiculously high prices and have to pay for a full month of service at the end of your contract, as they don’t pro-rate their service. Their business is clearly just good for acquiring new customers and they don’t care about keeping existing customers happy.
ILLEGAL PRICE GOUGING
ILLEGAL PRICE GOUGING
I signed up for Astound internet in December 2024 at $30/month. The total bill was $31.92. Since then, every single month has increased and every bill has been different. In January I was charged $31.92. February: $56.93. March: $37.93. Now they're telling me my bill is $61.93. On a live chat, I was quoted around $43 after taxes - an amount I have never seen before. They're price gouging, and it's ILLEGAL. I was also promised a $100 gift card after 3 months when I signed up - it was never sent to me.
Absolutely terrible service. BBB rated F. Don't use them!!
Absolutely terrible service. I will NEVER use Astound again. Their fiber in Chicago is slow and unreliable. Their technical and customer support is worthless. We had to have this trash service for 2 years and it was awful.
When we moved, I called to cancelled the service, but it was two days after my billing cycle and I was informed that somewhere in the tiny print, I agreed to pay a full month regardless of when I cancelled because RCN does not pro-rate billing. That is outright theft. I specifically asked the women who cancelled my service if there was anything else RCN would try to steal from me and confirmed that there was no equipment to send back or other actions I needed to take to complete the cancellation. She assured me there was nothing. A month later, I get a bill for phone equipment. We didn't have a phone! When I called they gave me a case number and said someone would call me back. I got a message and called back again. After waiting 30 minutes on hold, the rep tells me their is some black box that was installed that I have to return. I told him it can't be returned. We don't have it. And spent 30 more minutes having a ridiculous conversation with and idiot reading scripts to me and then telling me if I don't pay they'll send me to collections.
I don't care if it's $1, I am not giving RCN another cent and will tell everyone I can never to use their service. I filed a BBC complaint today and found Astound Broadband is F rated for "Failure to respond to 35 complaint(s) filed against business. 22 complaint(s) filed against business that were not resolved. 710 complaint(s) filed against business." Absolute garbage!
Service is terrible
Service is terrible. You almost never get the speeds you're paying for. Customer service is terrible if they can even be reached.
Astound Would Not Prorate my Bill
Astound raised their prices without warning - the announcement about upcoming price changes was in one of the previous bills, but I am on auto-pay with them and did not look into the bills. They should have sent a regular or a secure email announcing the price hikes, but this way this was a buried info. Another buried info was their policy that they would not prorate the bills if the services are cancelled midway through the billing cycle. I've never heard of a company doing business like that! So, what they do is legal but highly unethical. I switched to Comcast today, as I couldn't afford to stay with Astound after the price hike. But I am thoroughly disappointed that they wouldn't prorate my bill, especially after burying all the info that could be useful to a customer like me, and without finding another way to warn about upcoming charges.

This company is a rip off
This company is a rip off, my sister signed up for what she thought was a $20 internet if she set up auto pay and paperless billing. Not only did she not get a $20 bill more like $30. When she signed up she used a credit card for auto pay no one told her that she had to use a bank account even when she chatted about he bill after hetr first 20 days. Now that she is over 30 days they tell he that she can't get the discount because she did not use her bank account. What a scam this company is, I told her it is better to pay a little bit more for a honest company then to deal with crooks, she will change ISP company.

Consistent internet outages with no warnings, heads up or communication whatsoever.
Support staff are unhelpful when contacted as they report their side shows everything working OK. The only resolution I was offered was to pay out of pocket to send a support worker out to check the network in my apartment which is something I can do easily - no internet was being received by my router.
The cherry on top was, since cancelling early into my billing cycle, they refused to prorate my cancellation and are requiring me to pay the full bill despite the ability to remotely cancel service.
What a joke of a company, I will never use again. Competitors are more affordable, faster and more reliable.
Will lie about a bill and set debt collectors on you- anyone is better!
I reached out to cancel my bill after years of poor service and a poor product. They turned off internet immediately instead of waiting until the end of the billing cycle. I had to call and get it reinstated, and was at that point promised that my account is closed and I owed no money.
Flash forward to a year later, and I am getting a collections agency reaching out about my overdue balance. They say they sent me a letter, no email or call to tell me about this bill. They also promised me on the call when I closed my account that I owed nothing and would not be charged. Now when I called them about the collections agency, they conveniently can't review old calls and there's no notes and they are demanding payment.
Crappy company with a crappy product and crappier business practices.
Really crap company
Really crap company. Raised my rates several times. In the end I was paying $68 monthly for the same service they offered for $20 for new accounts.
And as of this year, they no longer prorate account cancellation, so if you need a few days outside your billing cycle, you either lose internet or pay for an extra month. Complete ripoff.
Misguiding Sales Executive, False Promises, Irresponsible Customer Care Support
I live in Boston. I had Xfinity broadband with $29.99 monthly bill. One day on March (2023), one astound sales executive knocked at my door, promised me to have $20 monthly bill with better internet ( price locked for 2 years) and also the contract termination cost refund of my previous connection. Now in July , I have not still got the contract termination amount refunded, paying monthly bill of $35 with similar speed as before. I contacted the sales executive multiple times and also the customer care , every time got an assurance everything will be okay soon. In the monthly I can see that promotion is also for only 1 year not 2 years. All this issues are not getting solved and I am not hopeful it will ever solve, I will soon initiate disconnection request to restore my mental peace for the internet connection hazards. Actually I was looking for 0 start or less, but I have no option. Please don't go for this connection at all.
