Curated reviews, misleading prices. Terrible company
Any show or book currently on Amazon gets fake reviews and promotions, don't bother reviewing books yourself most of the time they vanish.
Subscription prices are ok, but its a false economy where Audible prices are high and subscription seems better by comparison.
Once you buy a book it can be removed from Audible without your knowledge, nothing is owned, you will never get your books to keep, read the T&Cs your just paying for a streaming service like Netflix.
I love Audiobooks, but Audible is a parasite
I can't access books I own from AUDIBLE
I have enjoyed my membership of Audible for many years I have many books. I am now unable to download my older purchases withou going through a lengthy chat process and requesting the books I wish to read be renewed in my library. It has become a very frustrating process for me. When trying to contact Audible their phone back service hasn't worked for months.
Imagine finding one day that somehad locked your bookcases and you have to ask for the key each time your want access to a book. That's how it feels.
Books on Sale - Don't Use Your Credits
I like audio books and as I travel for work find them invaluable but - I really am miffed at paying monthly for credits, which is £9.99 and yet books are on sale at £4.99 and I am encouraged to use a credit to pay for it. How is that value for money or fair? I really don't get the logic behind Audible on this????
You know you're laying with the devil but how bad can it be
I thought I'd give it a try, like so many before me have expressed here below, but I was too late to read.
Wanted to part ways with Audible and did so timely. But wait, when one dances with Bezos, one is never fully released from its grip. So beware of them offering you a new deal, because lo and behold, at the bottom of that page, you have to press CANCEL ANYWAYS - even a 90's desktop is not this insecure about by intentions. I hope the people who invented this scheme have great Monday Morning Stand-Ups, revelling in how they managed to squeeze another 8 pounds out of customers. Sleep well.
Update 18-01: I managed to get a hold of the customer service (you have to look for it but was able to chat and quickly got through) and they immediately refunded the additional month. So that's actually really well done.
Given up on ever retrieving my library and credits - too frustrating
I pay monthly for a credit. I changed my phone and was unable to log in with my new phone. The telephone number they wanted to send a message to for verification was unknown to me. My email address was apparently blocked and "Unrecoverable" .They could then not identify the credit card which I am paying the subscription on. They could recognise the order numbers and purchases !After too many hours of frustration I have resigned my self to having lost my library and 5 months credits . Customer service guys were polite which somehow made it all more frustrating! Thought I was an exception but looking at this rating Amazon need to get a grip !
Ridiculous current rating - excellent facility
I've just downloaded the Audible extension. I cannot believe the low trust level. I can only imagine they were written many years ago. Because many years ago, there were some issues attributing books to credits and downloading. But now the process is so slick and easy. I've been audible buying books since round about 2005 so know there were problems but they have been eradicated. The selection is excellent, the reviews authentic, you can get snippets to listen to. I cannot fault them!

The Agents are unbelievably polite
The Agents are unbelievably polite! And Patient!
However
after being a customer for a matter of years - you unfortunately realise there's actually not much on offer - same-old-same-old - NO NEW TITLES - (might as well plod over to Utube)
Then should you upgrade (double the amount) you merely get ONE extra title! Nothing else. Where's the incentive in that? Not even an offer of buy one, upgrade for £11.99 and at least get an extra title for that!
Well AUDIBLE I sincerely hope you're "reading" with yours EARS and listening- because honestly, there's a lotta lottery competition out there - and frankly you're not even in the Line Up....
Love ❤️
I really don’t understand the terrible reviews, granted cancelling is tricky but the ease of use is amazing the audible + is brilliant offering a huge selection of free (no credit) book. I love the timed feature for when I’m listening & know I’m going to fall asleep. A vast selection covering many genres. I bought a years subscription as a birthday gift to myself & it’s is so worth the money.
AUDIBLE is the Best in its Class
Really do not understand the bad reviews. AUDIBLE is by far the best for listening to books. They have great offers and incredible selections of books all wrapped up in a very user friendly interface. Reviews stating its difficult to cancel are very confusing also. It's super simple and they do everything they can to try and please you.
What an awful company
What an awful company . They make it impossible to cancel your membership. They customer service is none existent and they should be banned for being so deceitful. NEVER AGAIN ! Avoid like plague 🤬
£7.99 is a lot per month
£7.99 is a lot per month, especially as many books are cheaper than this, so buying them with a credit is a waste of money. Then the credits are maxed at 6, so I assume after this they bill you for just being a member with almost no value.
Lack of transparency
Lack of transparency. You sign up for a free trial and they don't say anywhere how long it lasts or what the next charge will be. I've deleted all payment methods and to be safe I've also removed them from my Amazon account. If you're interested in audiobooks, I advise you not to choose Audible but to evaluate any other competitor preferentially. If you still want to use Audible, don't leave money on your card.
The Audible brand has reduced the value I attributed to the Amazon brand by a quarter in just one day.
Audible - who is your customer?
I have had an audible account since the pandemic and love the fact that i can listen to books and have access to them 24/7. However i find that as an organisation and given where we are in terms of our techno evolution very lazy and backward looking company - especially given the fact that we are not dealing with hard copy books ( where there might be a case for ‘selling/pushing’ surplus stock) but their digital equivalent;why do i receive a ‘Daily Deal’ for ‘Warhammer’ books or ‘Games of Thrones’ type books where hell would need to freeze over before I would even consider these as an option. Where AI abounds on ever aspect of life why oh why where with not much effort could you not take advantage of your incredible ability to ‘profile’ your customers and ‘pitch’ books that at least have a fighting chance or attracting interest?? Do you not realise that every time you send me a ‘Daily Deal’ like these you alienate me further and the minute someone comes up with an alternative to ?Audible that actually cares about their customers I will be off ( although judging by the feedback given on doing so you even make this difficult) even if you only offered 3 or 4 daily deals which somehow come nearer to my preferences I would feel slightly more enthusiastic about how you manage your customer base but a one size fits all approach is a product of pure laziness and ineptitude.
A total disgrace of experience
A total disgrace. Offers a free trial, removes a cancellation button from IPhone so have to do it on PC. About 5 screens of yes or no. Then an email with a discount after a few days with attached t and c. Awful company and practice. Avoid this company and buy the hard copies! Don’t waste and time on it. They don’t deserve any business treating customers like this. No ethics!!
Grim
Grim. Don’t dare having the audacity to consider cancelling your membership - you’ll find yourself in a Kafkaesque loop of corporate misdirection and manipulation.
Beware
Beware, if you buy a Kindle book you may receive the following email:
Thank you for your recent purchase on amazon.co.uk. You have now unlocked
a promotional offer for a free 60-day Audible trial.
After 60 days, your Audible membership will automatically renew at
7.99/monthly until cancelled. You will be billed monthly and will receive one credit each month.
So you are given an offer you didn't choose and, unless you are careful, are debited after the free period.
Dodgy practice.
Device all of a sudden not compatible
I used to love Audible but as of last night the app is not working on my phone. It turns out, all of a sudden I need Android 9.0 or higher, my phone is only Android 8.0.0. So I have to buy a new phone to download the app, after years of using it, being a loyal customer? Not amused and will look around for a different app/book provider!
No contact function…
I have been an Audible user for several years and love it. However, I tried to contact support recently (there is a contact us button) but it doesn’t work and needs fixing. So I am leaving this review in the hope that someone at Audible will read it and take action.
Appalling
Appalling. They make cancellation hidden and impossible. Even if you chat they don’t give you an option to cancel. You have to complain via chat and then remarkably they send a cancellation link! Companies like this deserve to be closed down by the US authorities.
Cancelled then they collected for months blaming the USA
Very poor and after you've cancelled a membership they bill you then tell you you've created a US account which is nonsense. Currently spent over 20 minutes getting fobbed off and now I've to be transferred to the US. WHY? just deal with the issue but you're transferred to the Philippines and they don't help they in my opinion hinder so I'd say to you please please get your books elsewhere because this is a case of fraudulent billing and how many of you actually check ?? Don't fall into their trap folks but elsewhere.
