Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the subscription model, finding it difficult to cancel and often leading to unexpected charges or billing discrepancies. Customers also reported issues with product access, such as purchased books becoming unavailable or requiring repurchase. The customer service was frequently criticized for being unhelpful, difficult to reach, and providing automated responses rather than human assistance. Payment issues, including unexpected charges and difficulties in removing payment information, were also a common complaint. Reviewers also found the website challenging to navigate, particularly when trying to find desired titles or manage their accounts. However, some customers also noted positive experiences with customer service, highlighting quick issue resolution and polite interactions. SCAM! Do not give them payment info!!

It’s insane that this is such a major company and it’s a total scam! I had an account once several years ago and canceled and they charged me for a year after. Once I caught it they said they could only refund me for 6 months. I thought it was just an error so this year I signed up again and canceled after a couple of months and checked my credit card the following month - no charge. But TWO months later - they started billing me my monthly fee again. Once I contacted them they confirmed it is my credit card but won’t tell me which account it’s connected to unless I tell them first? But they said it isn’t my email or my phone and I have nothing else? So they’re trying to say it’s fraud but I have no other fraudulent charges on my card. Only this. This is the second time this has happened, don’t ever give them any of your payment info! Stay away!!

Got charged for two months of my free trial

I clicked a link on amazon.com where it offered 3 months free trial. I canceled my subscription before the end of the third month and later found that they had billed me for months two and three. Customer service said it was for only one month and they couldn't refund me since I had used the credits. I guess I should have been checking my credit card more carefully and not been so trusting.

A rip off company

A rip off company. I did a free trial one week and than canceled. I got penalised by paying for two months. When I called the chat and gave them my bank number and all the information they were going to help, but gave me the run around and said to contact my bank. Now I have to cancel my bank card and go through the hassle of that. So unprofessional. Another scam company pretending to be legit.

Never use Audible if you value you…

Never use Audible if you value you personal online financial information. Someone got my debit card number and opened an Audible subscription. I became aware when my bank sent a notification of suspicious activity on my account. I stopped payment and ordered a new debit card. When I contacted Audible they confirmed that a subscription had been opened using my debit card number BUT THEY REFUSED to cancel the subscription or tell me who opened the subscription … because “policy.” Perfectly happy to go on stealing money out of my account while protecting the fraudster. Which, in my book, makes Audible/Audacy/Amazon accessories to fraud and online theft. In short, Jeff Bezos can SUCK A DICK.

Very disappointing and unhelpful

It is terrible customer service. The employees seem to work from a script and can't offer any real help. All my library books disappeared - hundreds of dollars worth- and they couldn't restore them because I didn't have an order number. I don't know how audible thinks we can hang on to years of audible numbers.

I have been a customer for about ten…

I have been a customer for about ten years and have used it pretty intermittently in all that time and have had periods where I have paused, but I cannot forgive Audible for how difficult they make it to simply cancel. They send you round in circles and, funnily enough, the final button to cancel - after the usual desperate pleas to stay - doesn’t work? So, I will have to call up and, having looked at the other reviews on here, enjoy that experience when I’d simply like to cancel on a website like most legitimate companies allow you to do. Safe to say, I will not be recommending them.

Hidden rules, trick promotion

There is a new member deal, posted first week of Sept--spend 3 credits and get 1 credit free. I spent more than 3 credits but did not get the promised bonus 1. i contacted customer service, not so easy as I remember it, to ask why.
CSR Jayson explained: "I can confirm here that the credits that you used to make those purchases are returned credits. Or the credits from your returned titles. The system will only count [sic] if the customer used her new monthly credits, instead of returned credits."
I asked why and suggested it would be more honest and fair to state this condition with the member deal announcement. Is a credit a credit or isn't it? it is hard to believe this company's lawyers and managers do not know that these private, behind the scenes agreements are illegal.
Jayson explained: I understand that.... But as per checking here [sic] on my resources is that [sic] the system will use the credits with the earliest expiration date. And as per checking here [sic], your returned credits have the earliest expiration date instead of your new monthly credits.
and
"Actually, you can still use your returned credits to purchase a title. It's just that this promotion is requiring the customer to use the new monthly credits, and not the returned credits."
Wow, Jayson.

Don't see how people could be happy with Audible?

I have (too) many subscriptions. Never had any problem.
Then came Audible. I created an account on my laptop. Could not login wit that account on my mobile app. Very strange.
While logged in on my laptop I decided to try a book. Before I knew it, I had made a purchase (?!). What the heck? Do I have a subscription to still be buying books?
Anyway, the worst part is their self help service desk, which only allows for a few set questions. Of course nothing even close to what I need.
I am going to cancel my membership and disute the purchase with my credit card company.
Never again.

Misleading advertising, and underhanded practaces

Sigh... Lets get the negatives out of the way first. (CSR in my writings means Customer Service Rep.)

While on my Amazon account, I noticed an advertisement offering a 90 day trial subscription to Audible. Based on their advertising, I thought that Audible is a subscription Audio Book service offering millions of titles, so I clicked on the link, and signed up for the level of service presented. I immediately signed into my new account, to bring up the next Audiobook in the series I was currently following. From there, I was taken to an account setup page. With the trial subscription, I was offered a "Free" credit on the setup page, and was told to select a book from the offered selections. None of the selected books they offered were even in the genre I'm interested in. Unable to leave the page without spending the credit, I chose a book outside of my interest, and continued. After completing the setup, I logged into my new account, and searched for the next book in the series I was listening to. Once I found it, I was told that I would have to pay for the book to listen to it. Confused, I went to other books in that series, and even other authors I'm interested in. Everything I was interested in, I was told I had to pay for. I logged out of the account and back in, and had the same results, so I called Audible customer service. On the plus side, an actual human answered the phone. The CSR, was polite, and returned the book I was forced to choose, restoring my "Free" Credit. I was then informed that Members only have access to the "Plus Library" for free listening. He asked me to check out the books in the "Plus Library, Gave me another "Free" credit and another 30 days for free, for a total of 60 days. I informed the CSR that I had a 90 day free trial, and 30 more days would be 120. The CSR told me that the 90 day offer was for the lower tier, and I only had a 30 day trial. While I had the CSR on the phone, I went back to the advertisement on Amazon, and told him it didn't say anything like that in the window, and that I had signed up for the service at the page I was taken to through the link I clicked on. The CSR (again) politely stated that there is no 90 day trial at the level I signed up for.
With a (now) only 60 day trial, I thanked the polite CSR, and went back to explore the "Plus Library". At this point, I wonder how many people signed up for a 90 day "Free" trial, and had unexpected billing start after 30 days. I don't know about you... but to me, that's (more than) borderline theft! I found the "Plus Library" navigation controls cludgy and miserable. Searching for just books in the "Plus Library" from authors entails searching the author then going back to check the filter for just the "Plus Library" in the side pane. Science Fiction and Fantasy Genres were grouped . (Why?) After searching for just Science Fiction in the search bar (Insert any genre.), and reading through (Literally) every entry in the "Plus" library; over the course of the next 60 days, I found titles and authors in the "Plus Library" that were never listed in the results windows from my general search. Audible is NOT a audiobook subscription service offering complete access. It's mostly a discount Audiobook sales outlet. Although Audible has the largest selection of titles and authors. There are other online services that offer discount Audiobooks without a subscription fee. In the end, even though I found several interesting books in the "Plus Library", The local Library offers Audiobooks with no subscription fee. It just wasn't worth it (for me). -Beware- If you cancel your subscription and have unused "Credits", you will loose them.
WARNING! Any credit card that you have attached to your Amazon account can be charged, even if it's not designated the primary on your Amazon Account. This happened to me. My 87 year old mothers Credit Card was billed for extra credits I purchased through the Audible App.

On the plus side:
- I was able to reach a live human.
- There is a telephone number, and I was not forced to "Chat" online.
- The "Plus Library" is quite large, and I found several interesting books. (I even went beyond the 30 day trial.)
- You can purchase more "Credits" if you run out for $11 - $12 (around €10.75 ), and use them on any book no matter what the cost.
- Audible offers book collections and bundles for 1 credit.
- Audible is quite open, and warns you will loose unused "Credits" if you cancel your subscription.
- In spite of the horror stories I read here on Trustpilot, I found canceling my subscription easy through the link on the dashboard. If charges continue next month, I will update this review.
Summary:
Over all, I found Audibles' misleading advertising and underhanded slimy practices, (in my opinion) overwhelmed my trust, to the point that I couldn't justify to myself even a second star.

Audible going out of business

I have a strong feeling Audible will not be in business much longer with how customer service has went downhill. Tonight I called and asked a question concerning the app and because the lady did not know how to answer the question rather than put me through to someone who does, or try to find the answer she simply hangs up on me. I even pay for Amazon Prime and Kindke unlimited. Amazon owns Audible. Are they not able to afford quality customer service?

The Audible app is a nightmare now!!!

I have been on audible for almost 10 years now and have always enjoyed it until the last year or so. More specifically in the last couple of weeks they have destroyed my library. I can’t even find a book that I had been listening to A couple of hours ago and they have removed over 300 books that I purchased from my library. My purchase history shows over 1400 books however my library on the app shows only about 1100 books. There’s no organization in the app anymore. It has become a real pain in the neck to try and deal with audible. The CustomerService robots tell me that they’re aware of the problem and that it is due to a recent update. If their IT department is no better than this, they need to clean it out and start over with an entirely new group of people. This is the second time in a year that I have had this problem and this time is much much worse than a year ago when they screwed up my library. I have paused my membership for 90 days so that I can catch up on the books I have (that I can actually find) and when that’s over, I’m going to cancel. The Aggravation is just not worth it.
