Disappointing experience with Aviva after a genuine mistake

Very disappointed with my experience. I made a genuine mistake when completing my quote because I misunderstood how No Claims Bonus works. As soon as I realised, I contacted customer service to correct it. Instead of helping me resolve an honest error, my premium increased by around £300. The policy became far more expensive than expected, so I had no choice but to cancel.
I understand insurers need accurate information, but the outcome felt unreasonable and left me feeling very frustrated. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I wouldn't choose Aviva again.

Exceptionally poor service

Aviva are the insurers for Nationwide FlexPlus Travel insurance. They have provided a dreadful "service" for me as I've tried to recover costs for flights that I was unable to take for legitimate reasons (Ryanair don't permit cancellations). I note the request to contact Aviva, but I have tried the online route without success - I would like to be able to talk to someone, so could you send me a phone number?

Good but why can't you talk to anyone?

Good platform and easy to use and sort insurance quickly. However I would like an option to talk (to a real person) as I had some questions regarding consolidating other insurances together with Aviva.

A Positive Outcome After a Stressful Start

I recently had to contact Aviva after my 73-year-old father's identity was used fraudulently to take out motor insurance policies. While I appreciate the thorough investigation and the professionalism of the Policy Investigation Unit, the initial process was much more difficult than it needed to be.

It was surprisingly difficult to find the correct contact number for fraud enquiries. I ended up having to try several different phone numbers listed on the website before I reached someone who could point me in the right direction. Even then, I was told that the matter couldn't be dealt with over the phone and that everything had to be handled by email.

My father is 73 years old and has suffered numerous strokes, which means he is unable to manage emails or deal with complex correspondence himself. As his daughter, I had to handle everything on his behalf. While I completely understand the need for security and written records, it would have been far less stressful if there had been a dedicated telephone team for identity fraud cases, particularly for elderly or vulnerable customers who are unable to communicate by email.

Once the case reached the Policy Investigation Unit, however, the service was excellent. Stuart and the team investigated the matter thoroughly, confirmed that my father's details had been used fraudulently, reassured us that there would be no impact on his insurance or credit record, and explained everything clearly and compassionately. Their communication by email was detailed, professional and gave us confidence that the matter had been resolved correctly.

Thank you to Stuart and the Policy Investigation Unit for resolving the matter so professionally. My only suggestion is to improve the initial fraud reporting process by making the correct contact details easier to find and offering telephone support for customers who cannot easily communicate by email. It would make an already stressful situation much easier to navigate for families like ours.
