We're down thousands of pounds after Aviva team lied to us.
We're down thousands of pounds after fixing a mains water leak using Aviva's preferred approach – and now our claims handler Selina Barnett refuses to even respond to emails or calls.
We have home insurance with Aviva. After a mains water leak sprung in our home, we contacted Aviva and asked how best to approach it with the cover we've got. We followed their advice, paid thousands towards the fix, and even checked in often with Aviva to make sure we were doing everything in the way they intended.
This was 2 months ago, where initially, we received confirmation that all was well and we could expect a payout for the completed work soon. We just needed the details of the secondary find-and-trace repairs (getting access to the leak) to be confirmed. But suddenly, out of nowhere, none of the work was covered by our policy.
Selina Barnett gave us this news via email, 5 minutes before the offices closed on a Friday evening. We assume she did this because she knew it backtracked on everything they had told us to that point; so emailing at a time where they couldn't reply for days was her way of dodging an awkward conversation.
Since then we've had no meaningful contact from Aviva, even after submitting a complaint.
The crux of it is, there were many approaches we could have taken to fixing the leak we had; so we confirmed with Aviva what was the best approach for our policy. We took there advice, and now they won't pay out.
We now suspect that Aviva / Selina Barnett talked us into an approach they knew they'd never pay out on. Why? We don't know.
So is the whole thing a scam? Is Selina Barnett just a bad egg that wanted to dodge a pay-out to make her file look better, or is Aviva just a fraudulent company? We've been really upset but the whole ordeal. We've have had to take out credit to pay for the work they instructed us to do. Now, we aren't even getting a reply to our emails.
Please go elsewhere for your insurance needs, Aviva won't help you.

Excellent service and certainly good…
Excellent service and certainly good value for money. Now on to get a quote for my car insurance too.
Do not fall for the 3rd party claims team!
Please please please , DO NOT use there third party claims team, I mean where do I even start!
So first they hassle me around saying oh you can’t get a courtesy car , oh you can get a courtesy car but your going to have do hassle around calling 3 different places to arrange it all, they where no help whatsoever.
Then after specifically telling them you need an accessible car with atleast 4 doors and a good amount of room for your parents to get in. They end up swapping you out from your 3L 300BHP 4 door Audi A4 automatic for a 0.9L 60BHP 2Door Manual Fiat 500, I don’t know on what world this car is deemed adequate, it barely even moves! You see this wouldn’t matter so much if it took a week maybe two but honestly you’d think they’ve fallen in love with my car at this point because they’ve had it for a month.
I picked this car up from the dealer not even a month before there client decided to smash into the back of me and now it’s actually been a case of they’ve had the car in there possession longer than I have.
It took them 18 phone calls & 3 weeks from me to even move forward for the repairs , which they then had to get a third party engineer to also check the car because they weren’t happy with the diagnosis (I don’t really know what else they expect when there client was speeding looking away from the road and smashed straight into the back of me no brakes no hesitation)
I’ve had the body shop they use chasing me asking me to spam call them because my cars sat rusting away on there lot because Aviva can’t even keep in contact with there own repairers.
I’ve got a telematics policy which is being threatened to be cancelled because it seems as though I’ve tampered with the black box as it’s not recorded in that long so I’m also having to keep in touch with my insurer to not get my policy cancelled but it’s so hard when Aviva leave you in the dark & the only kind of updates you get is when you drive past the car park your cars been left in.
After we have hit a month since the accident I ring after another promised call back was broken, only to be told “oh we think the ABS fault was nothing to do with our client smashing into the back of your car at high speeds whilst you where at a complete standstill waiting for a red light” even a simple google search would tell you the affected areas! I’ve now had to beg them to take it to a main dealer to prove the faults where caused because of the accident.
There staff have no sympathy, no care , no wanting to help , they read of a script that’s it , there so blatantly rude it’s insane, it’s like they don’t understand in the slightest & they definitely profile you based on your age it’s outrageous!
Honestly the amount of stress they’ve caused I think I’m going to need therapy , the anger I have to say it’s me completely not at fault is stupid. It has cost well over £200 in taxi costs to get my parents to where they need to be since they can’t fit in the lunch box of a car I’ve been provided!
(UPDATE!) the body shop just got back in touch , no engineer ever showed up , wow! AVIVA need to watch themselves because they shouldn’t be lying giving me a false diagnosis just to try to scare me into paying for there customers damage
If they don’t step there game up , there going to be taken to small claims court! I mean one of there staff said they will just block me , after saying I will ring back for an update, I mean that’s outrageous
Honestly steer clear of Aviva, there nothing but a horrid, careless & vile bunch, who want to bend you over at every opportunity.
I kept this review short but this hell of a experience is not justified.

Time to Switch from Saga to Aviva
Time to renew my car insurance and Saga wanted £580. Considering I only do 5000 miles a year and have 18 years NCB and a clean licence I found it excessive. Confused.com found me Aviva with an all singing all dancing fully comp quote with RAC and Car Hire included for £60 less. The online forms were easy. I'm well pleased.
Easy to use website
Easy to use website. Good comparison to others not the cheapest but I think good value for what I have elected to regarding my cover.
