We are an independent group who have been caring for eyes for over 68 years. Established in 1957 by Frank Barraclough in St. Leonards and later joined by Peter Stiles, we gained a reputation founded on expertise combined with a kind and helpful manner.

Investing in the latest technology and equipment such as OCT imaging and Optomap® retinal scanning and keeping the practices modern and up to date has all helped in passing the 65 year milestone.

However, a significant contribution has been made by the people working in the company and a large proportion of our staff have been with us for many years enabling them to build excellent relationships with our clients. We're proud of the solid reputation we have built up over the years and will continue to deliver the very best possible service when it comes to eye care and customer care.

Lovely welcoming staff very efficient…

Lovely welcoming staff very efficient and Customer friendly. Optician was very thorough and explained the health of my eyes in detail but easy to understand language. Overall an excellent experience.

Excellent service with a smile

Easy to book an appointment on line. The details of eye test fully explained and any questions were answered on the day. All the members of staff were very polite and helpful.

Very impressed with the optician Harpreet Bahra

Very impressed with Harpreet Bahra. Good humour, informative, friendly, and what's important for me, he gave plenty of time for my eyes to adjust when doing "better or worse". I hope he is around when my next sight test is due.

Outstanding service!

Ritz was absolutely lovely – she really looked after me and explained everything so clearly. The lady who helped me choose my glasses was also wonderful; she made me feel completely comfortable throughout. Easy to find and get to.…Nice staff.

Excellent service

I always feel I am being treated as an individual rather than the next person on a conveyer belt. I have a lot of confidence in all staff members. I trust the information and advice I am given. This has not been my experience at other larger chains of opticians. I therefore choose to use Barracloughs for their excellent customer service and not just because it is local.

Terrible service

Terrible service. They took three attempts to get right the prescription and fit of my new contact lenses and they are still not right.
