We are an independent group who have been caring for eyes for over 68 years. Established in 1957 by Frank Barraclough in St. Leonards and later joined by Peter Stiles, we gained a reputation founded on expertise combined with a kind and helpful manner.
Investing in the latest technology and equipment such as OCT imaging and Optomap® retinal scanning and keeping the practices modern and up to date has all helped in passing the 65 year milestone.
However, a significant contribution has been made by the people working in the company and a large proportion of our staff have been with us for many years enabling them to build excellent relationships with our clients. We're proud of the solid reputation we have built up over the years and will continue to deliver the very best possible service when it comes to eye care and customer care.

I experienced a sudden visual issue in one eye . After contacting the practice , reception ran through some check questions and I was then given a prompt appointment.I then received a comprehensive examination, the problem was identified, the reason explained and reassurance given .Excellent service from the whole team and a very satisfied patient , thankyou..

From the first call to your Polegate branch on 7/10/ to the same day prompt attention given by the Eastbourne branch I have been listened to and looked after extremely well. I was reassured and everything was explained to me. I felt cared for and have complete trust in the person who examined me. The lady who helped me to decide on new frames was patient and helpful.

Thorough examination and great service
I have been using Barracloughs for many years now. I always trust the thorough eye examination and consultation. Very positive experience from the welcome into the branch, the examination itself and then the consultation regarding the frames. Very nice staff in the branch. Bhavin the optometrist was very pleasant with a very friendly manner even though he was professional throughout. The lady that I dealt with after the eye examination was also very nice & even tried the Lens manufacturer to see if my current glasses were still under guarantee. No pressure to buy anything there and then either. Excellent service thank you very much

Very impressed with the service
Very impressed with the service, care and kindness I received from my recent eye check up. From my initial enquiry after receiving a email reminder, appointment booked very efficiently. On arrival the front of house team ( sorry I don't know their names ) both the ladies very friendly and welcoming. I had my eye appoint with Aashni Amin who was very professional, polite friendly and took the time to explain everything in detail after reviewing my results from the test. When I arrived for my appointment
When I arrived for my appointment, I was greeted with a very friendly hello from the receptionist and also from whom I assume was a trainee, everything was explained and I completed the forms with ease. I then sat and waited for Nuleen to call me in for my examination...right on time I must say. I immediately felt relaxed as she was so professional and was very thorough and explained the process. I am very grateful for the way everyone respected me during my visit. Thankyou.
