We are an independent group who have been caring for eyes for over 68 years. Established in 1957 by Frank Barraclough in St. Leonards and later joined by Peter Stiles, we gained a reputation founded on expertise combined with a kind and helpful manner.
Investing in the latest technology and equipment such as OCT imaging and Optomap® retinal scanning and keeping the practices modern and up to date has all helped in passing the 65 year milestone.
However, a significant contribution has been made by the people working in the company and a large proportion of our staff have been with us for many years enabling them to build excellent relationships with our clients. We're proud of the solid reputation we have built up over the years and will continue to deliver the very best possible service when it comes to eye care and customer care.

Just a very good optician and kind and helpful staff.Ihave used Barracloughs for many years and see lots of improvement. Probably a bit more expensive than some bigger opticians. But I would rather pay a bit more and have it near to where I live .

I felt the eye test was extremely thorough and although I was not experiencing any sight problems my left eye had deteriorated and was given a new prescription.
I was a little confused when I later asked the reception staff about postponing having new glasses at a cost of over £900 until I tested my eyes in 6 months as advised by the ophthalmologist for a possible deterioration due to a developing cataract.
She checked my records and said the new prescription wasn’t very strong at all and if I wasn’t having any issues with my existing glasses I needn’t replace them at this stage. I have decided to take her advice.

I was given full explanations and suggestions which I could follow up or not. The optician took note of my worries.

I recently visited Barraclough Opticians for an eye examination, and I am thoroughly impressed with the care and professionalism shown. After my right eye was examined following a cataract operation, the optician also carefully assessed my left eye and promptly referred me for another cataract operation. Her attention to detail, clear communication, and compassionate approach made the entire process seamless and reassuring. I truly appreciate the excellent service and would highly recommend Nuleen expertise to anyone in need of eye care. Thank you for your exceptional dedication to your patients' vision health!

The optician, Ms Nuleen Panday, was very thorough and explained what she was testing for, so I understood the processes. She showed me the results of the optometry and explained what the images showed. The receptionists were very helpful and welcoming, as usual. There was no waiting time for my appointment.
