We made an appointment with Barrett's Jaguar Land Rover Canterbury on Saturday 22nd February to view a Jaguar E Pace. We were blown away with the service we received, Louisa, James The Sales Manager and the Team made our Jaguar Land Rover Experience "AMAZING" in every way, they are so very professional, friendly and know their products and how to treat their customers. We felt like a King and Queen, nothing was too much trouble. We had taken our puppy Ruby a German Shepherd with us and she also was treated like Royalty. I recently took my BMW [model] to Barretts BMW Canterbury for a brake fluid service. While booking, they upsold me the MOT, which I agreed to—even though it was more expensive than my trusted local garage—because I expected a professional and thorough experience from an official BMW dealership. Unfortunately, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
🔹 MOT Failure That Should Have Been Avoided
As part of their process, BMW offers a free Visual Health Check, which is supposed to flag any issues. However, Barretts failed to identify a simple, visible fault with my wing mirror indicator, leading to my car failing the MOT unnecessarily. They only replaced it after failing the test, then immediately passed the car once fixed—meaning this failure was completely avoidable.
🔹 Contradictory & Weak Excuses
When I questioned why the Visual Health Check did not catch this issue beforehand, I was given a poor excuse about workshop scheduling and needing to use a ramp, despite the fact that a broken wing mirror indicator does not require a ramp inspection. It was clear that their process had failed me, yet rather than admitting this, they deflected responsibility.
🔹 BMW UK Dismissed My Complaint Without Resolution
To make matters worse, BMW UK later closed my complaint without even confirming with me that it had been resolved. This shows a complete lack of customer care and accountability—instead of ensuring I received a proper response, they simply marked the issue as closed.
🔹 I Paid More for an Inferior Service
I regret choosing Barretts for my MOT, especially after being upsold on it under the impression that I would receive a premium service. Instead, I got a careless process, a weak response, and an unnecessary MOT failure now permanently on my vehicle’s record.
🚨 If you’re considering a service or MOT at Barretts BMW, think twice. A trusted local garage would have handled this far better, and I would have saved money in the process. BMW Canterbury and BMW UK have both shown that they do not care about customer satisfaction once they have taken your money.
Would I trust them again? Absolutely not.

Excellent service from Barretts Mini Ashford. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Taylor initially found a car for me which I had overlooked and was able to allay my concerns. Edward dealt with the sale and has been amazing in his levels of communication and helpfulness. Even after the sale he has been on hand when I have had questions. It was been a great car buying experience and I will definitely be back. They are dog friendly too, which is also very useful.

Absolutely terrible service from Barretts Ashford. Car went in for a service which should have taken 1 day. It actually took them 2 days. I then spent over an hour waiting for them to get my car back to me. And even though they assured me they would give the car a complete wash and hoover they did not bother. When I complained about the length of time taken for the service they refused to even reduce the cost of service. After I insisted they somehow managed to reduce the cost but then went and removed the complimentary gift items that were in the car - extremely petty. The service manager could not even be bothered to come out and apologise in person, but sent someone else to deal with the issue. Very cowardly! If you want good service, please do not use them for anything.

The service I received at Barrett’s was exemplary. My mini required rear brake pads whilst I was visiting my son (790 miles from home). The lovely lady at reception was pleasant and helpful in finding a way forward to help assist in organising the repairs.
Courtney too was exemplary in her customer care. She kept me in the loop as to where my car was in the repair schedule. She ensured I was comfortable, had cuppas and provided a phone charger while I waited. Both these staff members were just fabulous! Thank you so much!

The ladies in reception were extremely diligent and processed my car for an MOT and brake service quickly, thank you. I would give Barretts 5 stars, but my car did not receive a full vacuum - they did not lift the mats in the front and the boot remained untouched. I know this sounds very picky, but it isn't cheap to have a service at BMW and when I booked it I was assured it would get a complete vacuum. I was not expecting a full valet, but I was disappointed, sorry.

Really clear information before, during and after the replacement repairs were completed. Really pleased there were options for getting my car to the dealership. Opted for collection and return by Mini representative. Very efficient, professional and friendly. Prompt review of the vehicle and the subsequent video emailed to me with follow up call shortly after. Additional works resulting from that were able to be carried out at the same appointment (2 new front tyres) and were competitively priced. Everything all done and car back to me by mid afternoon. Follow up call completed and payment taken. All very good. When I actually went to use my car later that day, I found 4 gifts from Mini in the car…presume this was because my car was in for a long awaited recall for a replacement part. The chap who brought my car back never mentioned it and so it was a lovely surprise. Courtney on the phone never mentioned this either (this call was before I discovered the gifts). Everyone I spoke to and interacted with were really friendly and happy and this shone through in our interactions. It sounded like people were very happy in their jobs/roles and happy to be a part of this recall programme of work. Thank you.

Bmw was very organised at my appointment for car service. The service support was helpful and efficient and I must say a good experience all round. They kept me informed of progress and ordered new part and fitted at the same appointment.
