Friendly and knowledgeable

On the 21st of July 2025, i woke up for the 4-5th time that month with a horrific backpain. With the mattress being over a decade old it should have came to no surprise to me.

I asked my parents where they bought their last bed from and they said Bensons, so we headed out to their branch in Drakehouse, Sheffield.

Upon arrival we were immediately greeted at the front of store, and our presence was acknowledged by Kate. She asked us what we were looking for and listened to my sob story about something easily solved. Kate proceeded to take me and my fiancé to the 'Machine' that allowed her to analyze our pressure points and etc. As i have 15 inches of extra height than my fiancé and double the weight, it was great to find out what kind of firmness me needed.

Kate was a very personable and friendly woman, and extremely knowledgeable in her product specifications. It very much seemed like she had an intermate knowledge of all the mattresses in that store. Which after finding out that she had been in the sleep business for 40 years does not surprise me at the least. Kate was also extremely empathetic of my back issues and took great care in reducing the amount of strain i was putting myself through, as well as making sure obstacles and hazards were swiftly kept out of my way.

We tried 3 mattresses in the same firmness and really took our time to feel it our. Kate gave us exactly the right amount of information we needed as well as understanding when to give us personal space. Even when i was doubting her advise on how firm i needed the bed she stayed calm and allowed me to try the extra firm mattresses. Then proceeded to explain to me why it was uncomfortable and why it wouldn't help my back.
All this time Kate reminded us that we had a 40 night sleep guarantee and that even if i felt id made the wrong choice there was a way to amend it.

We spent roughly two hours trying out mattresses and just laying there. We never felt pressured at all.
When we decided on the mattress, i was too hungry to continue , so Kate made sure we left with a quote to make our return visit more expedient.

Kate did try and advise us on having the extra warranty and its benefits and ,although we appreciated it, we did have good mattress protectors at home already and did not feel the necessity to purchase the cover. But overall as a salesperson did not continue to try and convince us otherwise.

The other two male members of staff were also very friendly and very open to having a good old fashioned 'northern hospitality' style of conversation with me and my fiancé. Very funny and whimsical interactions and it really felt like they were family to some degree.

We returned within half the hour and we proceeded to purchase our mattress with some savings included from the offers that were currently displayed on our choice. (roughly £200 off the original price).

We would genuinely advise heading to the Drakehouse branch if you want a positive and informative retail experience.

The company were polite and very helpful and found the right mattress for me. I was surprised how expensive it was my last bed cost less than the price of a mattress but I needed it. Delivery was quite expensive too I wouldn’t have bought it full price

Sales assistant was fantastic and helped us pick the best choice for us as needed a adjustable bed.

Ordered our mattress months ago and then our house purchase fell through. They kept the mattress in store for us until we were ready. We just had it delivered to our new house and the delivery lads (Josh and co in South Yorkshire) were brilliant. Managed to get the mattress up some very tight stairs.

We were greeted by a very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful lady who helped my daughter choose a bed. What I thought was going to be an all day job turned into about half an hour and my daughter got exactly what she wanted. Plus, we got the bed, in the sale, on interest free credit!
They kept us updated on the date and time of arrival and were very accommodating with the time. The guys that came to assemble it were really good too. They were friendly, helpful and got on with it, with no fuss at all and patiently talked me through all I needed to know. All in all a great experience and I'd recommend Catherine, and Bensons to anyone looking for a bed.
