The chaos that is Britannia!

I wish I hadn’t trusted John Lewis who sold me my Britannia Delphi double oven. I note they no longer sell them.
Where to start…..When the oven arrived the doors were slanting towards each other - I suspected the oven had a design fault but after 2 visits the engineers sort of got them straight. Then the seals perished twice - various burners stopped working as did the oven timer - always at inconvenient moments. I was convinced that this was a faulty machine and when I said that it was not fit for purpose and it should be replaced whilst it was in warranty, I was fobbed off with endless ‘repairs’ until I was told I was out of warranty so nothing could be done. This is not acceptable professional behaviour. So rather than pay for yet more repairs - I paid for the first of 2 health checks - new seals again that sheared almost immediately - burners that were working stopped and the burners that were supposed to be repaired were not because ‘the part was not in the van’ but had been specially ordered - I had been on the phone to Britannia at the time. Three more visits from engineers - different diagnosis but still no parts ‘on the van’ even though I was assured that they had been ordered!!!!
The oven is not fit for purpose and as a member of Which I shall escalate my complaint up to the chief executive until it is replaced with one that actually works.
However, your customer care people are unfailingly polite, sympathetic and try to be helpful. I feel so sorry for them as they are let down by the chaos that is Britannia and this has been going on way before Covid or Brexit.

Stand out customer service & solution focused

I have a Britannia induction range cooker and an American Style fridge freezer. Both have worked brilliantly since I purchased them in 2014. However a fault developed with the freezer in December 2019. Since then I have become a regular caller to the Britannia Living helpline service and have had a number of engineers in my kitchen trying to ascertain the problem. Throughout the availability, friendliness and efficient customer service has been notable. I would particularly like to praise Susan, a customer service team member whom I spoke to on a number of occasions, and who has been solution focused and helpful, as we all rode out the dual impact of lockdown and lack of parts due to imports being affected. Finally it was Susan who came up with the solution to replace my fridge freezer at a much appreciated discount in lieu of the delays and inability of the company to effect a repair. I think the customer service was excellent throughout, and Susan in particular was a stand out star!

No real interest in customers from actual management

I have a 13 year old, built in, 90cm wide Brittania double oven. I want to replace it , possibly with a new Brittania , but am concerned it may be old technology.
Over a week ago,I emailed Brittania using their website to ask, what improvements have been made to the oven over the 13 years , what new technology? They have a very impressive website with claims regarding great customer service. Needless to say, I’ve had no answer.Perhaps the Marketing Or Sales Director will be so concerned to read this he/she will check back, find my enquiry and give me a ring?? Perhaps.

3 weeks later, still no response, contrary to what the young lady below says. Poor girl, the reviews of this company are so bad, why don’t they have senior management, with actual full names, respond and resolve. Almost certainly because they don’t exist. I’ve had my oven 13 years, it’s been ok , but before buying a new one, I wanted to know what improvements have been made. Having read these reviews though, i would definitely not buy again. These responses they send out are so obviously the companies shabby way of stonewalling their dissatisfied customers.

If I could enter NO STARS

If I could enter NO STARS, that would be more accurate when rating Brittania / Glen Dimplex Customer Service. Along with many other complainants, I have found Brittania/ Glen Dimplex, wholly unacceptable, unethical and flaunting The Consumer Rights Act 2015
Since February this year I have been waiting a part, that has not been sourced. Consequently the full service has not been completed despite the company taking in advance for this and for unobtainable parts..£578.28to be exact.
The Resolution Team were offered as a support to resolve the issue, but months on I still have only a partially functioning premier range and a few repetitive emails.
It is very concerning to read that so many other consumers have had the same experience and I do intend to find a way to escalate this
So…. I do not wish to receive a perfunctory reply to this, asking for details, the company already has these. I want action that will return my range to full working order or be provided with a replacement.

I reported my Britannia oven broken some 2 weeks ago. I paid 195 for a visit. An engineer came and said I needed a part. Another week and I heard nothing. I chased to be told the engineer had left and didn’t make a report. So I asked for another visit. Still waiting.
And also told some parts are out of stick for 3 months.

Britannia cooker not fit for purpose

I bought a Britannia Dephi cooker mis 2016, for the first 7 months or so it seemed OK, then kept cutting out mid dinner prep, the suggested repairer thought he'd fixed it, but it happened again at Christmas time ! The shop were not interested, emailed Britannia who seemed to want to help but not chsnge or refund it, but would send an engineer which they did, parts were free but had to pay £200 for him to attend.
Worked seemingly OK for a few months ..same fault...called Britannia, but would have to pay £200 and parts ! But it was near Christmas again so agreed, worked for 6 months and now it's packed up completely! Really angry now, also the knobs on the cooker got so hot this time had I left my fingers on there for any length of time (turning off after it stopped) I would have burnt my fingers ! Over three grand for a cooker that can be rarely used when more than 2 people want a dinner !
If they sort this out...Will change the review!

Terrible customer care and product quality

I've had their range cooker for 10 years and it's been pretty poor. Dials falling off - burners breaking / not igniting.

Really hard to clean and maintain.

Oh - and there is NO after service / customer care from Britannia - they don't want to know...

I have tried repeatedly to get through to Britannia and after a total of 4 hours on and off still can’t get through to ask when are they coming to fix my cooker. Have been waiting from March for them to replace a part as cooker keeps cutting out. Have sent a filled in form from their website to ask them to contact me and have had no response. Dreadful service and am now wondering what to do. Would give them zero stars if I could!

If I could leave zero stars I would

If I could leave zero stars I would. Long story short, difficult to get through to parts customer service, on hold for 30 mins. Then repeatedly get a recorded message saying the office is shut (11am). Emailed with no reply.
Finally got through and ordered a replacement main oven seal. Paid £18 for expedited delivery. A week later it hasn't arrived and on calling up was told it had been delivered & signed for by me. To which I said I hadn't signed for or received it. On closer inspection Britannia discovered it had been delivered to the wrong address and signed with my surname. Still no door seal. I've been charged though. What a shambles.

Poor aftersale !

Hi
I ordered a repair back in January and subsequent an engineer was booked for the 2nd Feb. This was cancelled pending a part ( selector switch) which went on back order. Chased this up (having struggled to get through) in March to be told the part was expected in a weeks time. It’s now May and no word about the part! On the phone now waiting for a reply. I want to cancel and get my money back which I paid upfront. I’ve looked on line and can get the part next day - I’ll get a local engineer to fit! I can say this is the worse delay and service I’ve experienced - The next range cooker will not be from Britannia !!

I would like to echo Paul’s review

I would like to echo Paul’s review. We have been waiting since February for a warranty repair to resolve escaping steam to be resolved. Four cancelled engineer visits later and we are still told the part is awaited with no time frame. We cannot use our main oven properly whilst this is ongoing as the escaping steam is damaging our kitchen units. The staff are very pleasant but this does not solve our problem. What is worse is we are told the part is to modify what seems to be a design fault. We bought a Britannia cooker as we always wanted one and they had a reputation for quality. Bitterly disappointed and wish we had gone back to Rangemaster.

My brittannia needed a service so I've paid the £290 for a visit there were also some repairs to the main oven door hinges that needed doing . Was disappointed when the engineer arrived without the required parts. The found out that the oven selector switch had burnt out, which is strange as was working fine an hour before the engineer arrived. Anyhow that was back in March, now in May and Brittannia still can't get me a replacement switch. So I've been two months without the main oven. Finally managed to get through to the parts team today a very helpful chap called Steve who told me that he could not even give a date by when the switches ordered would arrive. Apparently only one supplier who can't keep up with the orders. It seems partially filled orders are regularly being sent across. So here I am not knowing when my switch will arrive. I have to say I didn't think the negative feedback about Brittannia could be correct. How wrong I was!!

Booked a service for my cooker and paid up front. Terrible customer service no one answering the telephone and engineer did not show up on time. Received 3 different dates for service appointments by a text message. On the day the engineer was due I received a call in the morning telling the time he would arrive. 2 hours late no phone call and again over an hour holding on for customer services to answer. In my opinion Cooker is pretty rubbish and expensive AVOID AT ALL COSTS, had condensation dripping onto my oak floor which is now stained from the oven.

I ordered a spare part for our Britannia oven on the 13th March 2021, when it was eventually despatched on 30th March I was given a tracking number for Royal Mail which shows it being received by RM on the same date. However there it disappeared. I contacted Britannia spares on the 12th April to advise them that it had not been received they asked me to wait until the 24th April then contact them again if it still had not arrived which I duly did.

They then correctly refunded my purchase price and asked me to reorder which I started to do only I noticed that the price had increased and I would have to pay for delivery again, so I contacted Britannia and pointed this out to them they however were totally unhelpful and insisted that I would now have to pay more money even though it was them and their contractor who had made the error.
Awful service

Highway robbery for a small metal clip - £56!!

A phial thermostat clip for my Q Line 90 cm (RC-9TG-QL-S) has perished but have only had the cooker less than 4 years. (these are small clips that hold the temperature probe in the oven) This is disappointing as we felt we were buying a high end cooker that would last. I phoned to order a replacement and was told the price for one clip was £56.83 plus £6.99 p&p! I asked the guy to double check as surely this was a mistake! It is a very small metal clip. He double checked and said I had bought a high end cooker!! Still believing there was an error I emailed using the “spares” enquiry form on 21st April asking them to check the price for me, but not received any reply. I was not prepared to pay such an outrageous price for a clip so searched online for an alternative. From uk white goods I ordered 2 similar clips that fitted a large number of other cookers and took a chance, hey presto the clip works! The cost - for 2 with delivery - £7.65!! So disappointed with Britannia and dreading needing any other replacement parts. Will never buy anything from them again.

Shockingly poor quality and sorely lacking communication

We have a Britannia oven (Si-10T6-SLX-C , 1006MP, 08370828). We contacted Britannia in May 2020 to arrange a health service check because the main oven door was not shutting properly, - order: CC-1242573_490105.
The service engineer visited in July but since the main oven seal was not good enough to complete the health check and some panels were discoloured due to this, on the recommendation of the engineer we agreed to order the new parts before the Health check was performed. The parts required were 2 doors and top facia panel (all to match).
There then followed months of waiting for parts to arrive from Italy. Eventually the parts did arrive but the small oven door arrived with incorrect fittings and therefore could not be fitted. We agreed to let the engineer fit the large door and facia whilst we waited for the smaller door to arrive as then health check could then be completed. The engineer did adjust the old smaller door whilst on site and left it looking slightly askew, which was not aesthetically great, but we accepted, as we thought a new matching replacement door would soon follow. As I say that was last November and we are still waiting (which I feel is extremely poor service, as it is 8 months since our initial request for a new door was placed).
Unfortunately, the smaller door panel “fell off” in February. The adhesive has fractured within the bond (as adhesive is on both the door and hinge side). So now we have an unsightly object with sharp broken metal hinges exposed.
Last night our remaining main oven stopped working completely. So we are now having to use the side with no front and no proper means of opening the oven door.
This has now become extremely concerning, we have paid over £260 for a service that has been half completed, several hundred pounds for new parts and we now have a half functioning dangerously incomplete oven.
I am assuming the main oven is still covered by the 1 year guarantee from the service that was carried out on last July?
Therefore can you inform me where the replacement door is, and when we can expect Britannia to finally complete this order.

Oh dear

Oh dear, thought I had bought a dream Britannia cooker, pleased when I first used it, just read the reviews. Only googled Britannia because my cooker, purchased in 2012, the electrics started cutting out in the two ovens, grill and spark ignition on the hobs at Christmas 2020 when cooking for a dinner party. It was embarrassing and the butt of jokes from friends, who knew I paid just under £5,000. Outrageous they commented.
From Christmas to date, same problem, intermittent cut out, ruins whatever is in the oven from cakes, bread, meat and Yorkshire puddings!
Thought I would contact Britannia, for engineer, not sure now.
Question, to Britannia, there is obviously a design fault with the electrics. Why have Britannia not fixed this? Why do you charge honest customers so much to correct your design faults?
Good customer service is to carry electric fault work free of charge.
Other companies do or action a recall.
Very disappointed to read the reviews, but not surprised as I am having similar problems. My previous cooker a Carron Cordon Bleu, made in Scotland was thirty five years old, with no issues. I loved it. Solid as a rock. Only changed it to get a Britannia to match new kitchen. If only I had known. Thank you everyone for the honest reviews. Making me think twice. All these customers cannot be wrong and bought Britannia in good faith.
