Beware of Outrageous Spares cost.

Beware of Outrageous Spares cost.
Our 6 year old 90 cm Britannia induction cooker just died.
Like other reviewers below after a very long phone wait the lead time for the engineer is 4 weeks just to look. I found a local company who came in a few days and found that ONE of the 5 hobs has burnt out...the quoted cost of replacement hob plus control panel from Britannia including vat is >£2,000!!!! This is robbery!
My replacement cooker will not be Britannia!!

hopeless customer service - covid no excuse

This company puports to "set the bar for British manufacturing standards "
And how sadly low that standard is.
They also " pride ourselves on our customer service "
yet never respond to emails or pick up the phone.
I made the terrible mistake of paying for a Health & Safety Check is priced at £260.00 , which is supposed to include a Guarantee: 1 year labour for mechanical breakdown from the date of the Health & Safety Check & 1 year on any parts fitted. Parts are not included in the Health Check and are paid for on the day of the engineers visit.
Despite our initial service taking place 6 months ago , and following several subsequent cancelled visits and one visit when the engineer attended but then realised he didn't have the correct parts , we are still yet to have the repairs completed with necessary parts and the oven still has the same faults . We have made several attempts to contact this company by email and telephone to no avail.
We have now had to put up with a faulty and possibly dangerous oven for 6 months and are now having to pursue a Section 75 refund.
Perhaps I will get a pointless response to this from "Mollie " who will issue the same email address to write into that already nobody has bothered to respond from

I purchased a brittania range cooker…

I purchased a brittania range cooker from John Lewis 4 years ago I thought it was going to be a quality product from a reliable retailer so disappointed when it started to trip out our electrics which we have had thoroughly tested by a qualified electrician the cooker is now unusable. I would strongly advise not to consider buying one of these ranges it sits in my kitchen unusable I will struggle to replace it I do not think 4 years is acceptable life span for such an expensive item

Potential solution to Britannia service issues

So this is my second review of Britannia to update and potentially offer a solution to anyone unable to get Britannia to service/repair their cooker. I have eventually found a company called Midland Range Cooker Repairs ( Google them) who had plenty of stock of the parts I needed and came and repaired my cooker within a week of calling them.
In the meantime Britannia had offered me a temporary date for repair, dependent upon stock arriving of May 14th which would have been 4 and a half months after paying £260 for a service and repair call! I have now requested a refund from Britannia.
Needless to say I will never buy from Britannia again!

Final comment from me in response to Britannia....
I doubt there is anything you can offer me now which would change my view of your company.
What you could have done is, instead of making me wait at least 4.5 months for my cooker repair you could have and should have put me in touch with Midland Range Cooker Repairs so that my repair could happen in a reasonable time. That would have been good service and is something I have done in my sales career, ie putting my customer ahead of any other corporate concern!

Sigma 120cm Range.

Sigma 120cm Range.
Terrible to see all the negative reviews on here. People with 8 & 10 year old ovens complaining that something has finally broken on their machines. What do you expect? Like any appliance it has a limited life-span.
My 120cm range is 15 years old and has just given it's first problem - hence the looking on line for parts. It's been a fantastic servant for this time and to have no issues for 15 years is quite something.
People should be more realistic about appliance life-span before complaining.

Horrible range

Horrible range. Everything on it is breaking and the timer is acting crazy. Pieces are falling off, the rubber is coming loose, and every womens nightmare came true for me. I had the cooker just turn itself off while I was cooking a turkey for the holidays. It smokes and hot steam comes out while its on. Now the main oven doesn't even come on anymore! Its only 1 year old!! Also, the cooking temp is very uneven on both. Digging around trying to locate my cert to prove I had a registered guy install it for me. Which I did, before they will agree to come out and fix it! Its awful. I'd never recommend them or buy another product from Britannia.

Potential Britannia Buyers Beware - Heed my Words ...

We've just received the pictures of the house my daughter-in-law has just bought wherein the kitchen is a 90cm Britannia range cooker. Very nice said my (2nd) wife - poor them I said. I've had a Britannia 90cm double oven Fry Top since 2004 (1st wife) and I'd never have another one. Whilst I haven't had the nightmares that others have, the oven timer packed up after some years and I was gobsmacked to find it was going to cost nearly £400 to replace so I decided we could live without it. Plus a standard service costs about £300 (from memory) so we don't have it serviced. On top of that the small oven takes forever to get to temperature. Consequently I have vowed that when something next goes wrong I can't fix it's going to the tip. It breaks my heart, when I think that with the extras I bought in addition it cost about £2,500 when a similar spec Stoves or Rangemaster cooker was about half that. But then I thought I was paying for quality, something that the name "Britannia" (British made?) inspires and something that the Italian manufacturers have, in my opinion, cynically played upon.
So if anyone is thinking of buying a Britannia, I would strongly advise them to firstly enquire as to the price of a Britannia servce engineer visit which I believe at the time of writing (Jan 21) to be £260 plus parts and secondly familiarise themselves with what can go wrong and the price of the parts.
I certainly won't get caught again.

Costs of spares is a joke, and Customer service non-existent

We have a 16 year old Britannia six burner hob. It has been great but the rubber feet which hold the pan supports keep getting broken and coming off and getting lost. About ten years ago we phoned Britannia and they sent us a pack of these for not much money. However we have now run out and they are now over SEVEN POUNDS EACH!! These things are tiny and you can get complete sets of 20 of other quality makers for less than the cost of two of Britannia. Britannia spares are a rip off and it certainly does not encourage you to buy Britannia again.
Update 4/2/21. I contacted Britannia as Mollie suggested on 20 January. Got an automated reply saying they would respond in 3-5 working days. So far no response (11 working days). Not great is it??

Disappointed with the product but customer service was exemplary.

We have had more problems with our Dual Fuel Range Cooker (eleven years old) than I would have ever expected considering the initial price of the cooker and 'the true quality and craftsmanship' that you advertise. At the moment we are awaiting a selector from Italy for the main oven that has not been working since October/November. Also just before Christmas the outer door of the second oven literally fell off as I opened it. We are a large household and had eleven for lunch on Christmas Day. Fortunately due to the perseverance and persuasion of your customer service agent, Jennifer, an engineer was able to get to us on Christmas Eve and fitted a temporary outer door while we await the replacement. We were so grateful to both of them. Jennifer was amazing, keeping me in touch with what was happening every step of the way.

Don't buy! Expensive, poor quality, poor service!

These range cookers look great but they are expensive and rubbish. Avoid at all costs.

Britannia living also offer terrible after sales service. I paid £260 for an engineer visit on 27 October 2020. The £260 only covers the visit parts are extra. Britannia still don't have the part they need and have still not scheduled the repair. The selector switch which is needed is available espares but GDHA (the service arm of Britannia) claim they don't have one and will not fit one that I could have delivered from espares. They haven't contacted me for weeks and their customer service people while polite can do nothing to help. This is not the first poor experience I have had with them. If you decide to purchase a Britannia range cooker beware, they break regularly.

The most unreliable and expensive cookers you will ever buy - avoid if you want a stress free cooker

We bought their top of the range QL range cooker 5 years ago directly from them and within 9 months it had broken down. The fan element stopped working and we were without cooking facilities throughout that Christmas period. Since then the same thing has happened roughly every 3-5 months. Every time their engineers came out they said that the element was too small for the size of the oven hence the fact they were blowing all the time. Britannia were very good in sending out engineers out when it was in guarantee but fast forward to the time it ran out was when it started to become very expensive. The same things keeps happening, turning the oven on trips the electrics. Only last November we paid £185 for yet another call out and 4 months later it had gone wrong again, Britannia said they would send out another engineer as a goodwill gesture to fix it. That's all very well but now it's gone again. The oven was never free from faults and has let us down on so many important family occasions. We shouldn't be expected to pay £185 every year for what they market as "craftsmanship you can feel and reliability you can count on". It doesn't add up. As it stands we have been waiting on a call back since Monday, it's now end of play on Friday and despite 3 emails and 2 calls we have not heard anything.
Update: i contacted Mollie as she asked, she responded to say someone would be in touch. Never heard another word! They give British businesses a bad name.

Dual fuel Britannia range cooker: avoid

I have had a dual fuel 120cm Brtannia range cooker for about 10 years. It has never been problem free, the ovens heat unevenly, the ignition for the hob is erratic and one ring has always had to be lit with a match. When the cooker was 18 months old, I enquired in the shop where I bought it about fixing the issues to be told "contact an electrician". I lived with the eccentricities until one oven refused to heat up. An electrician managed to get it working again, but it still doesn't heat up to temperature.
The cooker has been designed by someone who clearly never uses one. It is a complete nightmare to clean, and the burner racks are grease traps.
I will extract every last bit of use from this cooker until it gives up the ghost as it was an expensive buy. I will not be looking at Britannia again.

Appalling

Appalling. Our induction hob went wrong in March. The oven also regularly trips our electrics. We paid in advance for a service and repair visit. It has taken 6 attempts to get it fixed. Twice the engineer turned up with the requested spare part a damaged returned one.
Today a helpful engineer fitted the part but it turned out the hob just needed reconfiguring. (The part when removed looked brand new unlike the returned ones which were dark.) This took about an hour because even he found it virtually impossible. I expect we will now get a bill for a part which was unnecessary.
I would never buy one of these ovens - it came with our house which was new 4 years ago and the oven had only been used regularly since January.
I have only read the other reviews today for the first time and was not surprised to read the tales of woe.

Avoid - the only luxury thing is the price.

We have had our cooker for 3 years now and it’s had a number of problems with the induction hobs. 3 of 5 induction units now don’t work and the induction units are £300-£400 each even without labour. I expect cookers to last longer than this, it’s not a toaster or a microwave. With this failure rate and cost of repair, it’s not economically viable to fix. Not great for a luxury brand. It looks nice though.

Buyer Beware

Buyer Beware! I am replacing my 5 year old Britannia oven as it frequently cuts out and trips our electrics. Engineers have been out several times and each time have replaced a part such as the cooling fan above the oven or the thermostat etc. I have also had to replace the seal around the oven door.

When the oven cuts out it will not turn on again for around an hour, by which time the dinner is ruined.

Britannia have been unable to fix the fault and as it did not appear during the 2 year warranty John Lewis are not willing to help. I expect an oven to last many years and the fault started when it was about 2.5 years old.

We will be cooking our turkey on the Weber BBQ as we can not guarantee our oven will not cut out!

If you want an oven that works and will last more than 2 years do not buy a Britannia oven. The oven is not fit for purpose and the engineers can not fix it and Britannia does not care.

Not a happy customer

Not a happy customer
I am extremely disappointed Britannia Living. I have had my range oven now for a few years (approx 5). The heating element in the fan oven has been faulty now at least four times and the oven glass door shattered the same amount of times. I have had to replace the oven door seal around 8 times (at nearly £40 each time). I am told that the oven is not faulty (it definitely is) and I am then asked to pay a huge amount for the pleasure of someone coming to fix it again and again (on a couple of occasions I have not had to pay because it was only fixed a couple of months before). I am told that I will get a call back and this never happens. These ovens are expensive and customers should not have these problems. I have requested a replacement but have been told that there are no issues with any other ovens the same as mine and therefore they will not accept that it is faulty. On reading others reviews I find that hard to believe. My oven is not fit for purpose regardless of whether others are faulty or not. I am once again waiting for a call back and have been on hold now for one hour! I will be seeking legal advice if this is not sorted in order for a satisfactory conclusion.

Ongoing range cooker issues

I have tried calling several times since the spring mostly the line just rings out, when I have spoken to people I have been promised a call back that never happens!
I am incredibly frustrated with the service I have a cooker that has had a faulty induction hob since it was just over 6 months old, despite numerous engineer visits the problem persisted and I had a full replacement hob, the problem continued and the main ring replaced again after that, I phoned up in the spring this year as the problem continued explaining I realise I was just out of warranty but the truth is the initial problem was never fixed and I felt something was causing the hobs to continually go faulty.
I personally do not think the oven fan is working and that heat or condensation is interferring with the hob when the oven is used as often this creates a problem with the hob turning itself on and off then not working at all for several hours then it rectifies itself normally by the following day. This is obviously not ideal to have a hob you do not know when it will work.
as this still seems to be the problem I had from the start that has never been resolved I think the only option is to report this to the Domestic and General Ombudsman unless somebody would like to make contact and try and resolve this situation today.
I have sent a message to your messenger account and email too.

Don’t know where to turn now

Don’t know where to turn now. I bought a new Britannia range cooker less than a year ago, one ring has never worked and the main oven is faulty, temperature fluctuates, either burning or undercooking food and pumps out clouds of dangerous hot steam when oven door is opened. Engineer came, he “re-routed” thermostat cables and apparently temp tested oven. Cooker is now WORSE. Britannia customer services virtually impossible to get hold of, case escalated to “Resolution Team”, I was promised an email from management on Friday and a call back today, neither have been received. Britannia will not speak to my supplier AO and are AO are unable to replace with a cooker of same specification. Cooker is less than a year old, still under warranty, yet Britannia do not make model any longer. I previously used a twenty year old Britannia which never let me down, why is this new cooker so poor? I do not know where to turn now, am so upset, I cannot afford a new cooker, Christmas is coming.
