This company is pure cancer

This company is pure cancer. Someone else applied for a credit card with them and because they don't do ID checks BEFORE approving you for the card, they approved them which put a hard hit on my credit and added the card to my accounts. When I called they said they wanted to verify my ID using some third party driver's license upload software from a sketchy company we all know won't exist in 5 years (even though we hear about these companies having data breaches on a weekly basis now). When I declined they agreed to close the account. So basically they'll play with anyone's credit and open or close accounts in their name all day long, but when it comes to actually giving them money to pay for things, THAT'S when they care about security. I disputed the account with all of the credit bureaus and they came back saying "this is genuine" so my credit is messed up because of these assholes. It should be illegal to open accounts with identity verification.

Capital One is not trustworthy

Capital One is not trustworthy. I cancelled my credit card due to an unauthorized purchase, and then they authorized another purchase. They declined to deal with the issue, and repeatedly referred me to the vendor.

Customer service 😢

I made a double payment by mistake on my credit card for a large amount. That was purely my fault. However, after 3 phone calls and over two weeks of waiting, capital one has NOT sent me a check for the overpayment. I called again today and they told me a check wouldn’t be mailed for at least 10 more days. The customer service absolutely sucks!🫤

Anyone who has a capital one card and…

Anyone who has a capital one card and they rely on it for international travel should be aware that with their purchase of Discover Card and changing their network over your card will be useless. We found out the hard way when my daughter tried to use her new card. Customer service was clueless and unhelpful we had to do our own research to figure out why her card was declined every she went. If you have this card for zero foreign transaction fees- shops for a new one NOW. We are leaving them immediately.

If I could give half a star I would

If I could give half a star I would, do not recommend applying for a credit card with low credit history. The applications are reviewed by a bot and final my entire morning was wasted being dragged around different departments and even a credit bureau themselves for capital one to tell me we can have the bot look again with another hard pull on your credit which it was said on the application that it would not be a hard pull on my credit. For reference my credit history is fair just very new to credit I have some loans on my report that are both in very good standing but wow what a waste of time for just trying to build my credit up
more with a credit card i was recommended.

Very disappointed

I was excited when I received an invitation to apply for a Capital One Credit Card even though it was a secured card. I didn't have bad credit but it's just as bad to have no credit history. I've been working really hard to build up my credit score because I want to get a home for me and my 2 sons. I usually paid cash for all my cars. They were older but it never really mattered to me. They ran and I didn't owe anything on them. I finally financed a car too just to help build my credit and show I'm responsible with my money. I got 3 credit cards. Capital One first with a $150 deposit for a $300 credit limit in November 25. The other 2 have a $75 yearly fee and also both with a credit limit of $300. I use them but pay them off every two weeks when I get paid. My credit score was looking good so I decided to try for a mortgage loan. I got a pre-approval letter from a lender and I'm so excited! I checked my score one day and it had dropped drastically! I freaked out! When I find a house, the lender will do a hard inquiry on my credit and this score would kill me! I have an exceptional payment history on my credit report but my credit usage was high which cause my score to crash! I didn't get them paid before they all reported their statement balances. Crap! So I paid them all off and have barely used them. Ten or twenty on each now. One has reported my balance as $0 which lowered my usage to 52%. I keep waiting on Capital One and the other one to report to the credit bureaus. Capital One reported on the 17th last month. I'm still waiting on them to report my $0 balance so my score will go back up. I'm starting to believe they report cards with high usage faster because they are worried about getting their money back. They are slower to report low credit usage which is killing my credit report. They aren't worried about helping you rebuild your credit. They are worried about getting paid! I deserve to get credit for paying them off on my credit score! They are now my least favorite of the 3 cards I have. I was told no to a credit limit increase because my income wasn't enough but I can get approved to buy a house! So don't expect a credit limit increase from them either. I've never been late or missed a payment. My limit is only $300 and it's easy to pay off because yes, I make enough money to do that! One more thing, the only way you can reach their customer service is to call them. They only have an AI chat online which is useless. It's slow when you call them and I had one customer service person be extremely rude to me. Just wanted to give you an idea of what to expect if you're in my situation trying to build your credit and decide to get a card with them.

So far after having them for over a…

So far after having them for over a year I can say they are wonderful, they have not closed my cards when I hit financial hardship due to a blood disorder like the REFLEX CARD with CFC and I have been catching up on paying them back. I love the cards I have with them. They stick to their word and I have been able to catch up with them (Capitol One) the same way I am still doing with Reflex but Reflex did not stick to their word and trashed my credit and closed my card during a hard time while Capital One understood, stuck to their word and worked with me and has been absolutely amazing experience. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone.

Where Is Capital One Getting Their Credit Rating Information From??

I have a credit card that has a $1,000 limit on it. I spend about $1,500 a month on it and pay it off in full every month. I applied for a credit increase and was denied - the reason was for a "recent collection", which I do not have. I filed a dispute with the department and received a letter saying that was correct, I do not have a recent collection.

Yet still, I reapplied for the credit increase this month and was denied for the same reason. Today I received an email from CreditWise saying I've made 4 out of 5 payments on time. I have not missed a payment? What the heck is going on?

Also...such a terrible decision to switch the debit card from Mastercard to Discover.

I wouldn’t recommend Capital One at all

I wouldn’t recommend Capital One Checking at all. When I first opened my account everything was great. I do simple transactions (i.e. mobile check deposits, debits, etc).

My issue is with the new (apparently) mobile check deposit policy. When I started with CapOne checking my check deposits (and we’re talking less than $100 denominations) would be available within an hour or two later that same day. It was that way for almost a year. Never a returned check; never an issue at all with these deposits if deposited before 4p. Anytime after 4p then it would be available next business day. Then one day out of the blue it became if I deposited a check at 10a I’d have to wait the following day and also if it was deposited after 9p I’d have to wait 2 days. Again, perfect deposit history with these checks that are exactly the same amount 50 weeks out the year; not one issue with the check issuer. Ever. So it seems the reward for that is a longer wait time for access to money. Now, I may not be the sharpest tool in the tool box, but to me that doesn’t add up. That alone is enough to say stay away from Capital One banking. People need access to THEIR money. Not when the bank decides it’s okay. I know there are some areas where CapOne has physical locations, but I’d stay clear and bank with another local bank.

Failed chargeback and super slow transfers

Very slow transfers (think 5-6 days), no customer service chat, phone calls only. I also had a chargeback case with a PayPal 4-installment payment and they only recovered half of it (2 of the 4 installments). It has been 8 months and they still do not understand that I want the other half. I had several phone calls with them and nothing came of it to recover the other half.

Thankful

After almost a decade of banking with capital one so far so good. JP Morgan Chase was a literal nightmare and luckily I have yet to experience any similarities - so far thankful for my experience with Cap1.

Avoid for Teen Accounts – Systematic Failure, Arbitrary Limits, and Incompetent Support

If you are a parent looking to set up a debit card for your child to teach them financial responsibility, look elsewhere. My experience with Capital One has been a months-long nightmare of technical loops, broken promises, and a complete inability to access my own saved money.

The $500 "Roadblock"
I saved up $1,500 to purchase a new PC, only to discover that Capital One imposes an unchangeable $500 daily spending limit on teen accounts. While I understand security, the bank’s refusal to temporarily lift this for a verified, one-time major purchase is absurd. My mother and I called Capital One 20 to 30 times regarding this. Every single time, we were told by a different agent that the issue was "resolved" or the card was "unlocked," only for the transaction to fail again immediately.

The Infinite Verification Loop
The situation worsened when we needed to reset a PIN. To change it, the system requires a phone number on file for a 6-digit verification code. Despite our best efforts, the system claimed no number was on file. When we called to fix this, we were told it would take "a few days to a week" to update. It actually took over a month. During that entire month, I had zero access to my funds and received no notification when the update finally went through.

Technical Dysfunction
Even now, with the phone numbers finally updated and a new PIN set through the app, the card still does not function. I have spent hours on the phone with agents who clearly do not have the power to actually fix the technical glitches in their own system. I have been forced to abandon this account entirely, transferring my allowance money to my mother’s credit card just so I can actually spend the money I earned.

Final Verdict
Capital One’s teen banking infrastructure is fundamentally broken. They will waste your time with endless "support" calls that result in zero progress. Do not trust this bank with your child’s savings unless you want to spend your weekends arguing with a brick wall.

They Screwed My Credit With Liessss!!!

I am so disappointed. I have had capital one credit cards for 20 years. I called and asked if there was something they could do for me payment wise because my family and I are going through a difficult time money wise. The guy on the phone said yes what can you pay? So I agreed to pay $50 per month and he said I would not aquire late fees. Obviously interest would still accumulate. Well he didnt mention it would appear on my credit report as late payments!!! I am furious I tried doing the right thing and they screwed me over!! If he would have said that would happen I would have not agreed to this.

Someone used my information to apply…

Someone used my information to apply for a credit card on 3/10/2026. I called Capital One right away when I found out on 3/11/2026 that my information was being used. Capital One never offered a clear path forward and was less than helpful. So for example, they said would contact me to let me know the outcome of the investigation, but then they never clarified MY address or phone number. Capital One, was not forthcoming with information to the victim of fraud (from what steps to take as a fraud victim or giving a point of contact or even a case number). And Capital One's practices for dealing with this seemed to favor them and what is convenient to them. At one point they said they transferred the application to the fraud department, but then said they couldn't view the account in the fraud department. They also put me on hold and then hung up. Then when calling back they told me that they no longer had the application when I said I wanted a copy of the application per my rights according the Federal and State agencies. So Capital One either LIED to me or they got rid of evidence when this is a literal crime! I contacted the FTC, the State AG's office and local police. AG's office was on it and they told me that Capital One likely LIED to me. Here is my advice: Stay away from Capital One! Their business practices are very suspect and they promote LYING to the customer or victim of fraud (and/or they destroy evidence). Overall, Capital One seems to want to help facilitate fraud and to keep victims in the dark. Hey, Capital One, how do you know it is fraud when it comes to my information? If anyone applies in my name or using my information as I would never ever do business with your company! You could resolve any further problems by issuing a permanent block on my information with your company. Thank you AG's office for dealing with this shady business and being the hero in this situation!

Paid off both credit cards

Paid off both credit cards. Zero balance on both accounts. 30 days later I get charged interests on charges I didnt make. Customer service rep was rude and condescending saying I need to pay credit card in full every month. I felt like I was being scolded.
