I've been using Cinema Paradiso for about 10 years. I love it. They have a massive catalogue, which, as well as the films and TV programmes you would expect, includes original content made by the streaming services that is now on disc. So rather than having to sign up to a huge number of providers you can get it all in one place.
Their customer service is brilliant. If a disc is broken you can report it on a form on the website and post back the disc; they send you another disc the day you notify them of the issue (or the next time their office is open if it's an evening) rather than waiting to receive the disc from you first. So if you have a more than one disc agreement with them you almost don't notice it's even been a problem. You can also request films/programmes they don't have and they will try to get them for you. They are updating the catalogue all time. They have films from all over the world and that were made in the 1920s, the films that are being made today and everything in between. It's definitely worth every penny.
I waited 2 weeks before I received my discs. They also put my account on hold for 8 days, till they received DVD's back form all customers. So they didn't allocate any discs on mine and others accounts for over a week ! I wrote and wrote, no telephone number and I got 2 replies after a week of communicating. Customer service is non existent. I am very disappointed with this Company.
Holding mine and others accounts is not acceptable, without communication, or reimbursement. All whilst paying your sub fees. Taking my cash for no returns.
I am looking elsewhere, I am gone from here. Would not recommend them .
Practically non-existent customer service communication. Do they have any staff?
Held my account for 8 days, with no explanation, not acceptable!
Some of the new releases you can stream on Amazon Prime, Netflix and Now. It's a waste of time, frustration, and no communication. Hassle for nothing. Don't bother joining, easier on so many other sites.
I'm a big user of Cinema Paradiso. I think it's the best way to rent dvds, or blu-rays. Their library of films is infinite; and they are very fast at delivering your favourite films.
Been renting dvds from these since Lovefilm stopped, so its been a few years. I am about to cancel my subscription. The service has gotten a lot slower lately, they blame Royal Mail, but this works to their benefit as they dont have to post dvds while the strikes are on or on bank holidays, and they blame Royal Mail. It is noticable that they hold back postage to cut their postage costs. The obviously dont work or employee anyone at weekends so there is another 3 day wait for the next batch while they catch up and move as slowly as they can to acknowledge receipt of the batch posted to them on Thursdays/Fridays. Its getting ridiculous, especially as they had the cheek to raise their prices for the subscriptions, in my case £16.99 a month. This is about £7 more than what I was paying when I started with them. I can easily buy the dvds for much less, and with the free content available on the net to either download or stream movies, I am moving to cancel my subscription. Shame really, as I enjoyed the easy choice with renting dvds, but cinema paradiso seems to be the only choice left for this service. I would have hoped they would provide a better, fairer service to their customers over profit. Seems not
The last, best DVD/Blu-ray rental service. Been with them eversince Lovefilm petered out Great range of films, never had any problems with them. Occasional delays in films being sent/received via Royal Mail, but never any quibbles, they just send out the next disc straight away. Top notch company, long may you continue.
I've been subscribed to Cinema Paradiso for years (since Amazon killed LoveFilm) and stuck with them despite repeated price increases but today I received the same email as Steve below. Apparently I now need to pay them £25 for two discs lost in the post or have my account cancelled. (I just checked the current price of the two dvds on Amazon and they're currently cost £8 for both so where they got this figure from I have no idea). I'm surprised that a company with such a rapidly dwindling shelf life should be actively trying to drive loyal customers away.
This service is rubbish. They blame Royal Mail for the large amount of time in between sending a dvd back and receiving another, when it is pretty obvious they are deliberately trying to reduce the number of dvd’s you get. I complained about this and funnily enough I started to get them a lot quicker.
When I read other reviews about people being charged for lost dvd’s I decided to cancel my subscription as they are clearly not to be trusted.
Great service over the last few years. I've been a customer for a few years now and there's been one occasion that I was told a disc hadn't been returned when I had put it in the post and it was dealt with quickly and CP were very understanding, correctly attributing this to a postal service issue and took no further action and send me a new disc out for my next rentals straight away!
I would definitely recommend the service and felt compelled to write this review because I want others to keep services like this alive as 4k bluray discs are crazy money when you only watch them a few times realistically.
Thanks a lot!
I have been with Cinema Paradiso since Love Film finished, I have taken them up on the offers of paying for 10 months and getting 12 month subscription paid. A few years ago I went blind so could not watch movies any more. I suspended my subscription and asked them to refund the balance in my account. They have refused to refund, instead pointing to a clause in the T&Cs which say NO REFUNDS. So here I am with credit, that I cant use and can get refunded
Excellent service. Rapid turn around requesting they add a film to their lists, however obscure, and usually successful.
A little slower on postage turnaround than previously but nothing to get too wound up about.
I joined the outfit to get one particular title which was a 2 disc set however when they only sent me the first disc I immediately cancelled my subscription and sent the first disc back. However they then send me the second disc and I returned that back immediately so I've not actually had any views. Now a week later they have taken £10 from my account because they say the second disc has not been returned. I would be very wary of taking a free trial with this company. You just stick the disc in the post box so you'll never get a proof of postage and now they take the money and just tell me the disc hasn't been returned and I have no way of proving it. As if I would keep disc 2 of a 2 disc set.
Update : the supporting company has told me that as they have not received the discs back and I have not provided proof of postage they will not refund the money they have taken from me. Subscribers to this company or more importantly potential subscribers should take note. You just put the item in a postbox. You never should be getting proof of postage but bear in mind that they may come back to you in the event that a disc fails to return. So we end up paying for their lost discs even though it's not our fault. One of the worst companies I've ever dealt with
This is what I received from my "friends" at CinemaParadiso.co.uk following my reporting non reciept of 2 dvds sent in one envelope via standard Royal Mail delivery -
Hi ,
Just a quick email to let you know that we still haven’t received the disc(s) you have reported as being problematic 10 or more days ago. The following disc(s) have now been marked as lost in the post.

If you wish to compensate us for the lost discs, please click Show lost discs and choose to pay. Your subscription will then be activated and the discs will start arriving again. So, this is how they treat customers! The missing DVDs were apparently sent by them to me but were not received. Surely a matter for them to pursue with Royal Mail? Instead they suspend my account and ask that I compensate them if I wish to continue receiving DVDs (until the next time I don't). Needless to say I shall be cancelling my subscription and I wish my "friends" at Cinema Paradiso all the best with this business model and thier ongoing partnership with Royal Mail. Crooks.
I have raved about Cinema Paradiso and simply must do so again. Thank goodness they use Royal Mail and not Hermes! I have never had a problem with this excellent, well thought out company. Such a delight to see the red envelope in my mail box. Customer service very very good. The few times that I have had to return a faulty disc (maybe 5 times in many years), a replacement is sent right away. I hope hope Cinema Paradiso remains in business. I recommend it 100%.
I have used Cinema Paradiso since 2014 and have borrowed over 1000 DVD's.
The service is faultless and they have such a vast array of films. According to Google, they have 80,0000- 100,000 titles. Compare that to Netflix's meagre 6,000.
I posted my last two films back at a 09:00 am collection in Yorkshire on Monday 20 June 2022 and my next two films arrived at lunchtime today, Tuesday 21 June 2022.
I would recommend this service to anyone, and everyone I have recommended it to absolutely love it.
The main difference between this and a streaming service is the range of films ( including world cinema and classic films) available and the ability to watch in the best resolution available (4K blu ray available for many recent films) the additional contents of some DVD's are also very interesting for those who are film buffs or simply interested in information about the film such as commentaries , deleted scenes and interviews. The fact that you plan to rent the DVD means that you have to put effort into it rather than passive streaming. all in all it makes for a very good cinematic experience. You can create a wish list of lots of films which then gradually is sent to you. I upgraded to two dvd's at a time which keeps a steady trickle coming in the mail.
I started with Cinema after Lovefilms closed, used to be a good service where turn around on dvds was a couple of days after I sent the old ones back. The last 12 months something seems to have changed where I have sent my 2 discs back and still after 4 or 5 days I check my account and still says I have them at home. So I report that I have sent them back and they issue me my next titles, and the next day as if by magic they email me saying I have recieved my titles ( strange how this happens every time). And on doing this my account has been frozen 2 or 3 time and once they emailed me saying they couldn't supply me with anymore dvds because they kept getting lost even though they got them back. The last 8 titles I have sent back have taken about a week to get back to them in which they always seem to be quick to blame royal mail. I agree with others on here that they are delaying updating people accounts to slow down the amount of discs each person recieved a month. Well my last 2 titles I sent back on Monday and it is now Saturday and my account still says I have them at home, I have reported them as been sent back and I am fed up with the poor service I have cancelled my subscription.
After returning a faulty disc that would not load on either of my (working) DVD players I have just returned the very same disc (a tell tale mark on it) for a third time! They keep sending the faulty one back to me! I am told that they clean and check them on return but I’m not sure. They certainly should not send the same copy back and after my second return they might have worked out something was amiss. Unbelievable. Very poor systems and no acknowledgement of the inconvenience to me of trooping up to the post box with the dud disc virtually every other day.
Horrible experience.
I didn't realised I signed up for a physical DVD rental subscription (I wanted to rent a film digitally), so I immediately cancelled the subscription. I was still sent a DVD and now I have been charged £10 even though I have sent it back! There is no phone number to contact them.
I love Cinema Paradiso. I love the range of foreign and classic films that they stock, much wider than any streaming service. I’ve never experienced any delays in receiving discs from them and I always get prompt acknowledgment of my returns. I’ve experienced very few faulty discs and have always been offered a replacement or an alternative from my wish list. I think it all represents very good value for money.
