Unhelpful and uses an awful repairs subcontractor

I needed to get my windscreen replaced as a chip was too big and the car couldn't pass its MOT. I have comprehensive insurance so I am covered BUT the company they use (Auto Windscreens) said they couldn't fix it for 3 weeks!!! (and that's in the middle of West London, not in the remote highlands!!!!). When I called Coop and explained that this meant I didn't have a car for 3 weeks they basically said "tough" ... they don't have another supplier, they wouldn't contact Auto Windscreens to ask them to help me, and wouldn't let me use another company. Couldn't get me off the phone fast enough! In the end I had to pay for my own repair (£365) to get through the MOT.

ok ... it's my bad for not realising that the chip would mean MOT failure, and for leaving the MOT lastminute, but the point is: a) they use a rubbish subcontractor, and b) genuinely didn't give a damn about the situation.

Making it difficult for you to cancel your policy

My home insurance premium for next yr jumped by 25%. Found quotes at 1/5 of what I'm currently paying. Followed instructions on letter to cancel (phoning an 0345 number). If you press for the option to cancel your insurance, you get a recorded message quickly telling you that you have to email completely incomprehensible address with certain info. If you want to repeat the message, press 1. When you press 1, it does NOT repeat the message but puts you on terminal hold while charges add up. So you try calling again, and it's again (I believe on purpose) impossible to make out the email address. When you go online to find out how to cancel it does not provide this instruction, but only the phone number. The renewal letter again offers only a phone number or you can send a letter by post. Unbelievable. The email address to cancel is: admincoop@markerstudy dot com and you have to include your Policy number; Date of Birth; and Post Code. This is clearly a barrier-filled access to cancellation -- extremely poor practice. Not impressive.

Rip Off and Lack Of Loyalty

Loyal Customer of 11 years for Home Insurance (Paid them over £5000 over this term). Renewal quote year on year usually only around only a £10 increase, however 2021 quote jumped £251.84!! Contacted them to find out why & was told as I had 2 Contents Claims in last 5 years (2018 = £950 & 2019 = £845 both for my bike being stolen away from the home) this was pushing up my premium. I was told at time of the claims that these wouldn't affect my premium (and hadn't for past 3 years - so why now). So been lied to, no customer loyalty for such a long standing customer! Done me a favour in long run as same like-for-like policy from Halifax I've got £400 cheaper. Ripoff and no Loyalty! Shame on them!

Co-op car insurance = no customer care, although they will tell you customer care important

Had an accident and third party admitted liability then tried claiming non fault. Although I gave statement and provided a witness statement they still have not resolved my claim and want me to except 50/50 liability. Statements not sent, then not received!! I’m continually chasing them up!!
Feel like my own insurance company who I pay a hefty premium not representing me and don’t want to claim against fellow insurance company!!

Buyer Beware---Caveat emptor

Having previously discussed and agreed renewal of my mums policy 3 weeks prior to renewal with Coop Eco insurance i was disgusted to have received a notification that my policy had lapsed on the actual renewal date. What i find incredible was that they decided in their infinite wisdom to wait till the day of renewal to inform me of the fact that their underwriter could no longer honour the renewal price.
i am disgusted at the abhorrent woeful treated meted out to my mum a 75 year old woman who has never had a claim. It seems to me that the coop family have no place for the elderly and in protest I have torn up my coop card with the intention of no further dealings with a company that has no moral or social conscience.

Unbelieveable Quote

Having been quoted around £350.00 for my 5 year old Hyundai i30 with 10yrs NCD with Go Compare, I thought I'd try the Co-op. Having put all the relevent details in, the quote came back, £10,300.00 ! Over £1000 a month. What planet are these people on. Go compare look like a really good deal all of a sudden lol.

Renewal price of home insurance…

Renewal price of home insurance warranted an alternative quote - got it for half as much with more cover. To cancel, the Co-op have a phone message asking you to email. If you can understand the email address ..well done.. if not you wont find it on any letter etc . For reference its admincoop @
markerstudy dot com
Shocking service. I shall not be renewing any policies with them.

Do not touch this company with a Barge…

Do not touch this company with a Barge pole. I did a policy with them in the phone they took payment and set up a direct debit . They then sent me a letter asking for Proof of no claims . The email they gave me kept bouncing back . I then phoned which takes about 30 mins to get an answer . The Lady I spoke to said , they were having trouble with their emai , but not to worry she would phone my old providers and get proof . I then waited an hour and a half on the phone . Eventually she said it’s all done for you they’ve confirmed your NCD .
They sent me a cheque two weeks later for £15 for my inconvenience . Then blow me yesterday I 20th March dated the 3rd March saying ad I’d not confirmed my NCD my policy was cancelled . Tried phoning today gave up after 45 mins . Have luckily got a new policy with a new company all sorted in 5 mins . I’ve now got to cancel standing orders as they’ve taken money for my account another inconvenience . Managing Director Ross Barrington you should be ashamed of how you run your business .

Incompetent and Unprofessional

This is my second review in 2 days as apparently Co-oP took down the original review as they do not like being told the truth that they are unprofessional and an incompetent car insurance company.
My renewal for my car insurance was due on the 8th March, I contacted them on the 1st March to ask why I had not received my renewal quote, was told they would post it, meanwhile I asked for the figure, was horrified that it was £144 increase. I asked why was this as I had not made a claim. Was told it is because it is a new company, called Soteria. Ridiculous excuse. On the19th March!!!! I received 3 letters, 2 stating my renewal quote and the 3rd policy schedule with all the wrong information, which explains why the renewal was high. If this is how they operate as a company, what would they be like if a claim was submitted. Needless to say I am now insured with another company.Do not waste your time with this company.

Poor Customer Service

1 star review, The knowledge of staff is very inconsistent, poor training, long wait times on the telephone. and when you do get through the line goes dead and you get cut off and they really hate paying out on a claim and just argue :(

Best advice is to take them to the financial ombudsman service (they charge co-op insurance £650 for each case they investigate, doesn’t matter if they win or lose)

Minus 5 Stars would be my real rating....

Unfortunately I can't offer a negative star rating. Quite simply the most inept, unhelpful and over priced insurance company you could possibly choose. My car insurance went up by 300% without any reason and when I eventually managed to get through on the phone after 5 days of trying they had no idea why the change in premium?? "just one of those things" i was told!! I obviously cancelled my policy. Dealing with Coop insurance has left me somewhat traumatised and I would actually prefer root canal work rather than the experience of dealing with Co-op ever again.

RIP OFF Co-op insurance , AVOID!!

Iv'e been loyal customer of co-op insurance without any claims or convictions for over 20 years. This week I received a letter stating "your policy isn't being renewed" NO explanation given. After wasting 5-6 hours phoning I eventually managed to "on line chat" with some one who kindly listened & arranged for a call back & requote. Last years premium £351.53 new quote £791.94 for exact same cover double + £90 apparently they been taken over/merged with Royal London. Unbelievable steer well clear !!!

This is a ridiculous company

This is a ridiculous company. Avoid at any cost. After they proposed almost 100% raise in my premium, I called them to discuss. They redirected me to a sales team, when - after answering a torrent of questions - I got ... even higher quote and some lame explanations together with it. So I said "good bye" and went somewhere else. But I asked them to give me a no-claim letter; which they promised to send. And failed to do it so far. And if you call them during "busy time" (which is, I guess, any time), they will - instead of putting you into a queue - apologise and ... disconnect your call claiming they are extremely busy. I have never met such ignorant, annoying and rude treatment of a customer.

I took out car insurance with the Co-op…

I took out car insurance with the Co-op in January. They asked for proof of No Claims Discount which I emailed nine times to the address they gave - only for the emails to eventually bounce back. They then wrote and emailed to say that the policy would be cancelled unless they received proof of NCD. After considerable difficulty, I managed to talk to an agent on a Saturday who told me that their email address had changed: but for some reason it didn't occur to them to inform their customers. He gave me the current one and I emailed proof of NCD to that address. The agent said that it would all be sorted once staff returned on Monday and that I would be informed. On the Wednesday I received a letter saying that my policy would be cancelled at the end of February. I then spent the day trying, unsuccessfully, to contact the company by 'phone (the method they recommend).
Very difficult to find words to describe this company without resorting to abusive language.

And, the phone just ring out!!

Received an email from them inviting me to ask for a quote. Well, I tried but gave up after hanging on the phone for over 20 minutes, without a response. If they can’t be bothered to answer a quote line, I fear the chances of them answering a claims line is fearful!
I have unsubscribed from their emails.
