The team at code are exceptional they are all so amazing and helpful! They always try there best to help you or get anything sorted straight away if needed. I would 100% recommend staying here at code! It is very safe and clean. The events they put on are also amazing and they involve everyone so you can make new friends and meet different people that are staying here.

Honest Feedback

Just save your money and stay somewhere else. They won’t return your deposit money. They will make you pay for the “damages” even though you didn’t even ruin or stole anything inside the unit. When I was moving out, I did a deep cleaning. If I only knew that my 300 pounds would not be returned, I wouldn’t even bother cleaning the place. You guys are the worst scamming people with the deposit. The funny thing is they said I have 38.93 pounds, but they can’t even send it to me. I waited months for this even though they said it would only take ten days 😂 The Bottom line is to look for other places to live.

Also, excuse my sassy attitude (you would do the same if an accommodation tried to overpower you.) Take note: they didn't fix my complaints about the unit because it was not a “priority,” so I had to deal with it.

Hi Precious,

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know how you feel.

Unfortunately, when there is damage, this has to be charged. We can see that after you checked out, your refund was approved two weeks later. We then chased you for your bank details, which we didn't receive until ten days later, we were then able to pay you.

I will certainly be taking your feedback on board and seeing if we can make it clearer at any point in this process.

We wish you the very best and remain at your disposal should you need any further information or landlord references for the future.

Kind regards
Team CODE

The amount of electricity available on my bill dropped sharply.

I paid my monthly electric bill before moving in, but it took nearly a month after I moved in to inform me that the amount of electricity that could be used in this year's bill was significantly reduced. I know that energy costs in the UK have increased, but the electricity bills of other student apartments in the Coventry area are still the same as last year. Only CODE has sharply reduced the amount of electricity that can be used. I am very dissatisfied and disappointed with this. I would not recommend this student accommodation to anyone else.

Dear Li,

We appreciate your feedback, all of our tenants were made aware that electricity prices would be communicated by the end of October 2023.

We understand the frustration with rising energy costs nationwide. The adjustments made are in line with the current market rates across the UK and we assure you these reflect the current market rate which is reflected in your allowance.
We value your input and hope to address your concerns to ensure a better experience. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or feedback.

Many Thanks

Horrible Maintenance.

The unit you live in is beautiful but the maintenance is terrible. All issues don’t get sorted and if they do it takes weeks at the least . The admin team does not take the complaints of its tenants seriously and trying to get any form of real assistance is almost impossible. Residents get placated with excuses and random events instead of appropriate services .

Hi Sihle,
We appreciate the frustrations experienced when there is a lift fault. We work with our lift contractor to get any issues fixed as soon as we can, but sometimes parts need ordering. Only specialist contractors are legally allowed to make repairs and in this situation we have been advised there is a delay in the part arriving.

We apologise for the inconvenience and will be closely monitoring the supplier issue to see if we can speed up the process.

In the meantime, if you have any mobility problems or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us and our team will be happy to lend a hand and come and help.

Great choice apart from rude customer advisor

Great choice for student accommodation. Second year living here and I always thoroughly enjoy my experience.
Staff are generally very friendly however when checking into my room this year I was served by a very ignorant and rude member of staff at CODE Leicester called Kishan.
I was asked to provide proof of study before being able to receive my keys. My university don’t issue confirmation of study letters until October for my course. This meant I had to go onto campus and ask student services to write up a letter to confirm I’m on the course.
I was told by Kishan that I could go onto campus to get this letter then come back to him straight after to finish checking me in.
However, when I came back there were at least 10 more people waiting to be checked in. I was told by Kishan that I was now placed at the end of the queue and had to wait until everyone else was served. This clearly goes back on his original word. My check in time was 9am, and it was now 10am. I explained that I had work in an hour and would really appreciate if he could finish serving me as my documents were already halfway completed.
He very rudely stated there’s nothing he can do and started serving another customer.
Thankfully there was a very polite and helpful gentleman called Jacob who understood my situation and happily served me next. If it wasn’t for him, Kishan would’ve placed me in a very difficult situation and made me extremely late for work. I really hope this feedback is passed onto him so he doesn’t treat other customers unfairly.

Jas,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review, your opinion means a lot to us, even when we don’t get it quite right. We are so sorry to hear your experience with us was not as we would want it to be! It’s such a surprise as Kishan is one of our top customer service team members who goes over and above day in and day out for students. He will be so sad to hear he didn’t get it right this time. And knowing him, he will be making sure he makes it up to you.

We do need to have the correct documentation legally to allow someone to move in - but we note how you were made to feel on your return and should have brought you straight to the front. Please accept our apologies.

We hope to see you again soon down in the office and perhaps make it up to you with a VIP pass to our welcome party? Just let us know 🤗

Not too bad

In general, my experience has not been too bad. Although the furniture of the room is good except the chair that is not comfortable at all. I had back ache because of it. However, the room is very noisy as the view is on the ring road so I can't open the window at all neither during the day nor in the night. In addition, one of my neighbors is too noisy and she always stays up till morning playing on loud music and has marijuana all the night.
Although the security has told her that they would terminate her contract if she continues that, she hasn't stopped that and the smell of the corridor is always bad. So I think there should be a stricter policy regarding such issues.
Apart from that, the policy of the Code in general isn't flexible and they don't understand students' personal circumstances. It's very frustrating when they didn't allow me move my stuff and to stay in my new rented room although I told them that I can pay for that. All kinds of accommodations are flexible and there's something called breaching the contract, which allows students to stay in their new rented rooms but it seems there's no such a policy here in the Code. Which means they're commercial body not more. They're interested only in the monetary benefits without taking into consideration international student's struggles.

Hi Raad,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us another year, we really do appreciate your repeat custom. Also, for taking the time to write a review so we can continue to make improvements. We always want to aim for 5 stars, but understand sometimes we don't get it right and I hope we can change this for you.

We understand it can be frustrating to not be able to move straight into another room between tenancies, but sadly the room you are moving to was still being occupied by another tenant.

If you were staying in the same room, this would not have been a problem, but I can understand how it must feel when having to wait between your tenancy periods. I know Danielle and Lauren are trying their very hardest to see what they can do to get this room for you as soon as it is available.

With regards security issues, we do have a noise complaint from you on 16/2/23, but nothing else. The team really do try to help as much as possible with any concerns and I would recommend emailing coventry@codestudents.co.uk with any issue at all. We will do everything in our power to help.

Kindest regards
Team Coventry

Wouldn’t recommend

I’ll start by saying this; the people in the Code Leicester office are great and I wish I didn’t have such a negative experience with the rest of the company as a whole.

As soon as I moved into my studio flat in September 2022, there were a plethora of issues with regards to the quality of the accommodation.

- there was a huge stain on the wall by the bed
- the room was a combination of different white paints
- the laminate was hanging off of the shelves on the desk with a sticker ensuring me that Code was very sorry and would reconcile the situation ASAP (it was never fixed in eight months)
- the laminate was peeling off the corners of the kitchen units
- there was a large dent in the wardrobe
- the floor was covered in white paint drips
- the sofa was dirty and had huge dents and cracks in the arms
- there was a huge scuff on the floor under the desk
- there was a green patch of what I presume to be mould in the bathroom
- the desk drawers weren’t aligned properly and couldn’t all close simultaneously
- the fridge ticked
- the oven made a loud humming noise after use for about 20 mins
- the heat alarm was faulty and had to be replaced twice
- there was no toilet roll holder

All of these issues were present when I moved in. Three days after moving in, I awoke to the sound of dripping and found that my room was being flooded from above. I had to pay out of my own pocket to replace a ruined bath mat and various items of clothing. The maintenance team took over a week to paint over the stained walls (and they wouldn’t paint the large stain by my bed). My fire alarm (electric) crackled and fizzed for a week before finally dying. Despite my requests, the alarm wasn’t fixed promptly.

Later on in the year, I returned to Code having been home for a week to find my room had once again been flooded. I asked what had happened and received blame for the incident.

Throughout my stay I had various issues with the water and water pressure within the flat - I would attach videos if I could. The taps themselves were boiling hot and couldn’t be used in isolation. My shower had two settings - boiling hot or freezing cold and the hot temperature would cut out mid shower. The shower’s water flow could only be described as a trickle. I asked maintenance to remedy the situation and their solution was to replace the shower head for some reason unbeknownst to me. It made no difference. The shower took ages to warm up throughout my tenancy.

I moved out after graduation in July and made sure my room was deep cleaned and in pristine condition. I have since requested my security deposit back and been informed that I’ve been charged £48 for a mattress steam - I had a mattress protector on all year - as well as £24 for a shower head (the one that was installed without my consent and didn’t satisfy my maintenance request). After requesting the dispute to be taken up with management I was reimbursed for the security deposite with the charges still intact and received no communication. Code have failed to show proof of the dirty mattress. I’m now chasing my money and am receiving terrible service in doing so.

I could not recommend Code to anyone. My experience has been hell. Code have no control over noise at night as people cause havoc in the corridors and leave shopping trolleys, bin bags etc.

The wifi is courtesy of a well-known wifi network which I used at previous accommodations and I had to sign in every single time I came home from uni this year - that’s never been the case before.

Overall, my main irk is with the maintenance team. They took two weeks to fix my sink plug hole and when they did, it wasn’t fixed. It took three weeks of complaints before they checked my fire alarm which was flooded during the aforementioned flood. They only did so because it was setting off one of their sensors, not because of my emails or concerns for my safety. A lot of the work is outsourced to people from other companies who have a terrible reputation amongst the Code maintenance team.

The new accommodation manager, Mark, has now helped out with my deposit issues and assured me he’s looking to make improvements. He was great and very apologetic for what I’ve endured - like I said, I can’t really fault the people at Code. Hopefully he can push Code forward to be what it can be and should be.

You will not find a better place then this

This place offers more floor space and and your own kitchen and an en-suite for a better price then what my friends were paying for a share bathroom. I lived there for two years and I only had a few problems and within the week after contacting the office all of my problems were fixed. I would highly recommend this place to all years. If you are worried about about being by yourself there are plenty of events that the code accommodation put on for you to take to other people.

I love living here, but like with anything there are pros and cons

Pros - The staff, security and maintenance are lovely, the rooms are spacious, yet small enough not to be annoying when cleaning. Perfect for one person. Lots of light from floor to ceiling windows, with black-out curtains that do a pretty good job of it even when the sun is direct in the morning. Lots of storage, even as someone who has way too much stuff. They do fun events year round and it really makes it nice to live there.

Cons - it is VERY hot in the summer. loss of the fifth star almost entirely because of this. Definitely buy a fan (or several. Seriously it’s boiling), fire-alarms in individual rooms are very sensitive, my toaster sets it off. Lifts break often, though there are four at least in my block so there’s usually one working.

Thanks for the review CA. The drawback of floor to ceiling windows is they can let in a lot of heat. We try to help by hiring fans but will take your feedback on board and also look if there is anyway to improve the lift service.

Convenient for CU students

Didn’t get the specific explanation about contract without asking and always give the unclear answers whenever asked the questions. Aside from that the room was really good and best place for Introvert people.
