They did what they said they would. I would recomened DTL

I like a lot of people had not been backing up my pc. So when the hard drive stopped working with around 20 years worth of pictures on it. I had a problem that was not going to be easy to solve. I talked to local pc shops etc and a couple had a look and said to get the data would be a specialist job. One person recommended DTL. So after reviewing the feedback on the web and deciding that the no data no fee was the best way to go I sent the hard drive to DTL. They were exceptional they confirmed receipt of the hard drive and emailed me a quote of expected costs. They were also happy to talk on the phone to explain what they were doing and what I could expect. 3 weeks later I have my lost data and a big smile. The bank manager may not be so happy but it was worth it getting back 20 years of photos is priceless.. Big lesson to learn back up your data. I would recommend DTL excellent service and communication.

Excellent work! They deliver what they promised!

Following a disastrous failure of a Dell server, sold to us by Banana Computers, with disc drives in it which were older than what we were told, we did not know where to turn for help. DTL Data Recovery on the other hand did their best and managed to restore the crucial data of our past 2 years of work. Without them we would have lost it all. Quick turnaround (obviously you get what you pay for) and our data salvaged. Recommend warmly!

Couldn't have asked for more, and cheaper than the majority available out there on the market

Friendly and very professional company.
They were in constant communicatiom informing me of the full process, and my options available.
Very pleased with the end result as I had previously resigned myself to losing all my valuable data and family memories.
Highly recommended for those looking for a reliable, friendly, efficient data and cost effective recovery service

Slow and Unwilling to Finish Job (Not Profitable)

I first contacted DTL to recover an external HDD. They sent me a quote and all was good. I sent in the damaged media.

They sent a further quote for the work which was agreed.

Four weeks later after an unanswered email chasing, I had an email telling me recovery had failed to expect further information.

I gave them ample time to respond and after two months I contacted them myself.

Apparently the job was not profitable for them to complete so they wouldn't be.

I thought the company was specialist in the field of data recovery. So a failed HDD shouldn't be rocket science.

I do recommend them one bit.

I have below included the email response to this review. To enable full transparency and why this review will remain, the aggressive nature and absuive language. This is the response as written by DTL.

''I must say I am totally disgusted with your review. A deliberate attempt to damage our good name just because we did not recover your files. Yes communication could have been better as the follow up email was overlooked but to score us 1 STAR for working tirelessly on your device and you haven't paid us a penny is truly shocking, vindictive and ignorant.

I understand you must be very angry that you did not have the for-sight to back up your data but taking your anger out on us is more of a reflection of you as a person than us as a company.

We evaluated the disk free of charge, give you a free quote, provided a free recovery attempt and will even return it for free. How can this be a 1 star service?

In my opinion a 1 star service is a service which has deliberately mislead, not delivered, deliberately damaged your property, when you have financially lost out, not because a company cannot recover a broken hard drive and failed to send an email after 3 days confirming why it had failed.

Also you have misunderstood what I said, I said the recovery is beyond economic recovery, it's not economically viable for us to continue to through money at your recovery when there is little chance of success, we used our own money and time to attempt to recover your files, we could have offered to continue the recovery if you were willing to cover the cost of our labour and the parts, but I don't think you would have been too happy with this. I didn't say it wasn't profitable as it could be as profitable as we want it to be.

Also you demonstrate your ignorance by claiming that data recovery isn't rocket science, well clearly you must know a lot more about it than us, you should try to recover the files yourself.
I sincerely hope you are not in business and are subject such a malicious and vindictive review.

Your hard drive will be returned in accordance with our terms and conditions, it will be sent standard post once we have returned it back to its original failed state.

You have actually misrepresented the truth in the review, we will be referring the review to our solicitors and will also provide them full facts of the case.

You may hear from them in due course if we decide to seek legal recluse.

I strongly encourage you to seriously reconsider your review and score.'M

UPDATE : We cannot see where there is any abusive language in our email to Ryan, and also cannot see how the email can be seen as aggressive. We do not tolerate malicious acts which can potentially damage our good business name and we will defend ourselves like any reputable business. Again this proves what sort of person we have the misfortune to offer data recovery services to.

We are really disappointed with Ryan's review, and more so Ryan's attitude.

Ryan has failed to point out that we provided him with a free assessment of the media, provided a no obligation quotation and he hasn't paid us a single penny. We are even returning his disk free of charge.

Ryan agreed to our quotation, we proceeded to attempt recovery, after many weeks of trying to rescue his files the recovery proved to be unsuccessful and it was deemed to be beyond economic recovery. This means that the disk may one day have some files recovered but it would cost potentially thousands trying to find out.

We notified Ryan the day the disk was deemed to be beyond recovery and our automated email process sent him an email stating that we would provide further information within 72 hours.
Unfortunately the follow up email explaining our reasons behind the failed recovery did not get sent, Ryan then contacted us 2 months later, within a few hours he had the email explaining why the recovery failed. He replied and asked for his disk to be returned. We then marked his job for return on our system and we believed that is the end of the matter. Then we discover he has awarded us 1 STAR because we failed to recover the data and because we took 2 months to send him his follow up email. A bit harsh?

I tried explaining to Ryan that if he had contacted on day 4 after the 3 days had passed since we emailed him, he would have had the information as to why the recovery process failed. Was Ryan that concerned with the recovery failure? It took him two months to follow it up with us. Ryan also pointed out that the 1 STAR review was because we failed to recover the data, well Ryan displayed significant ignorance in this regard, not every case is recoverable, we tried our best, incurred financial loss to try to save his data, he didn't incur any financial loss. To award us a low score for failing to recover files which in all likelihood are beyond recovery does not really sit right with us. Would you criticise a VET for failing to save the life of a critically injured animal?

I think Ryan has decided to vent his anger at losing the data at us, by scoring us 1 STAR maybe he feels that there is someone else to blame for the data loss, and not the person who failed to take suitable measures to ensure the data was backed up.

We have conversed about the review and explained the situation which Ryan clearly misunderstood, to say we were upset by the review is a slight understatement and we pointed out some facts to Ryan, he didn't take too kindly.

So now Ryan changed his tune and his reason for the 1 STAR review is for the way we conducted ourselves after he left us a 1 STAR review (which was a deliberate attempt to damage our business in a very spiteful and vindictive act). This behaviour is not uncommon, when people realise they have made an error, people sometimes lash out and attempt to justify their actions by utilising illogical reasoning.

To conclude we have no wish to ever have to deal with Ryan Taylor of Oxford and we sincerely hope his business/or character is not a victim to such a malicious, and spiteful act.

If any potential clients would like to discuss our service or this or any other review then we welcome a phone call or email.

I highly recommend DTL for recovery.

After accidentally deleting my external hard drive containing many of my precious music DAW files, i sent it to DTL after careful research on the top data recovery companies, i was not disappointed! I now have back at least 90% of my lost files back in full working order. The price was exactly as initially quoted and not a penny more. Contact was maintained throughout the process and emails were answered promptly.
I do not have anything negative to add.... Highly recommended

Many Thanks )

Saved the day

As you would expect when a disk-drive fails which contained some valuable information you need an effective and knowledgeable company to come to the rescue! and Data-Track Labs were just that.
Based on the reviews on Trust Pilot I first sent the drive to another company who provided a somewhat pessimistic and possibly prohibitively expensive appraisal which neither inspired me with confidence or one I could afford.
For a second opinion I chose Data-Track Labs who were both confident about achieving the desired result and if I opted for the economical option (slowest; it did prove to be a bit slower than expected) within my price range.
True to their word and having read the report on the state of the failed drive, due to their obvious professional skills they managed to retrieve the lost data returning it to me in a handy brand new portable drive.
Thank you Data-Track Labs you saved the day.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the review, it was a difficult case but we managed to keep costs to a minimum for you, a good £1000 cheaper than what the other company quoted you. Also on our no data no fee service.

You case is an example as why it is essential to get a second opinion if data has been declared as beyond recovery even if the company which has deemed the case to be beyond recovery claims to be the best in their field.

Complicated RAID Issue - Not perfect, but acheived results

Can I start by saying if you've lost data - you're probably in a state of panic and you don't ACTUALLY know what to do for the best right now.

I'm writing this to save you some time.

There's loads of companies out there claiming to do data recovery. Great! Some even work weekends, so they must be big, reputable companies right? Wrong.

You need a company that will try to understand your situation properly and then be honest and upfront about what can and can't be done.

The majority of companies in this industry (I've found to my horror) are either interested in low hanging fruit that they'll ransom back to you, or they'll run the bare minimal amount of tests and just produce you a list of easy to obtain files - often "within 24 hours" they claim.

I had a 6-disk RAID 5 volume that needed recovering - it took over 10 days to scan and the results took 4 days to even open!

File names had been lost, but there were some important spreadsheets contained that were literally priceless. Michael took the time to understand the issue completely and set about querying our data in various ways using various techniques to achieve actual useful results. We managed to get the spreadsheets we craved back as well as a lot of proprietary filetypes. The other issue with data recovery is that unless you're looking for common file extensions (i.e. .xls, .xlsx, .pdf) you're screwed by and large. Unless you use these chaps and leverage their extensive experience.

Can't stand the industry AT ALL... but these guys are genuine. We credit checked them and did our due diligence prior to using them as our data is very valuable and they're all above board and actually care. They'll see the job through to the end without promising the earth.

Highly recommended.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the review, it's a such a shame that you didn't come to us first and you might have saved ££££'s but you wasn't to know. This industry is a minefield, even the companies claiming to be the best and bluffing. Due diligence is essential when choosing a data recovery provider.

DTL Data Recovery ...... Sony Camera Memory Stick Duo Pro

An excellent service, recovered all our photos from the defunct stick, very good communication throughout the process and considering we opted for the economy service (3 weeks) they were returned within 10 days. This type of service is expensive, but this is one of the good companies who charged what they quoted. Many thanks Michael.

Very slow response time. Over 3 months since seeking help

I contacted datatrack labs after speaking to several data recovery companies because of their online and email offers. I was not in a hurry but wanting to recover photos from this past year. They told me the following after lowering the price and after I had paid to have my new drive and the old damaged one returned.: Unfortunately the system was not updated with your return request, but our returns process can take up to 21 business days as stated in our terms.
"It will be returned this week, as a result of this error we are willing to perform the recovery for a total fee of £150 on the previous stated terms when we offered the recovery for £249.99 ex vat. Please indicate if you would like us to recover the data for you for this new low fee."
I replied ok go ahead and repair the drive after waiting one month already. Here is the next response:
"We have completed a recovery on the disk but due to the damage we cannot retrieve the data as it was prior to failure. we can only retrieve data through a raw data trawl method. Please could you specify the most important file types that need recovery. The folder structure and file names are lost so the files will be extracted as file1.jpg, file2.jpg etc."

How I am supposed to know how many jpg files there are is beyond me! I told them to recover all jpg files from 2015. Still no reply. It now the end of March 2016.

Hi Daniel,

We are sorry we did not meet you expectations. I must clarify a few points raised above.

Yes we did offer you a huge discount due to a slight admin error with the return request, we were willing to perform your recovery for only a fraction of the original quote providing it could be squeezed in and around more urgent cases. We repaired the disk and managed to clone it but there was so much damage to the file tables we could not use conventional software to restore the data 'as it was' prior to failure. We offered you the option of a raw data recovery where we scan for file headers, we only wanted to know what file types to search for and you somehow misunderstood this request. We did not ask you how many files you had, just what file type you wanted to be recovered.

We did not have a response to this request for 7 days and then you decided to write this review and demanded the disk returned. Normally there would be a charge to halt the work but as the case turned out to be such a difficult case and for very little money we decided to waiver this charge and to cut our losses. It's a shame as the hard work was done and you could have had your data recovered for a fraction of what is it likely to cost you now.

We wish you the very best in getting the data recovered.

Michael was happy to talk though the requirements, he instantly gave us the confidence and we are happy with the outcome.

Fantastic,quick work,helpful staff

I sent my hard drive for an assessment as it had stopped working,I was advised it would hopefully cost £97 but may rise considerably if more work is needed.

I was told the data was retrievable within 24 hours of them receiving the hard drive (fantastic),the only downside was the price (including transfer to a new 2TB Hard Drive) had risen to £686.70,which whilst initially disappointing,is still good when you consider how much other companies charge.

All in all a 5* review but be aware that the price may well rise considerably, but service wise I cannot fault DTL. Thanks.

damaged SD

My SD card was damaged by an 02 guru, and after them giving me useless info. I contacted Data Labs who were most helpful courteous and kind and were sure they could help. After several weeks I was giving up but they retrieved my photos and I was most delighted with the results. I would highly recommend them, they came through in a crisis.

I corresponded with Mr. Mike Owen who went way above the call of duty and even contacted me on a Sunday morning with an update.

Not cheap, but quality never is.

Very satisfied customer. I had a USB hard drive fail which contained business critical stuff which, as Sod's Law would dictate, had not yet been backed up. Datatrack were very quick to respond to my SOS, with clear instructions and an initial quote to examine the drive. Their report and full costing was with me within a couple of days, and a few days later I had a map of the data they were able to recover. Had it not been for the Christmas/New Year holidays when I was away, the whole recovery process with data returned to me on the new drive I supplied would have taken barely a fortnight.

Communication from Datatrack was excellent. Above that, though, they did what they promised, and I got all but about 0.5% of my data back. Big lessons for me in the whole experience, but if you're wanting great service, Datatrack ought to be your choice, in my view.

Easy company to deal with

I used DataTrack Labs after doing some research online and contacting a few companies.

DataTrack were cheaper than most and on par with others...BUT I must stress - the other companies had NOT seen my hard-drive so their costs may have gone up upon inspection (which I suspect)

The communication from DataLabs was always quick and professional. I was kept updated on the progress throughout the process and was extremely happy to get all of my data back.

I didn't take DataLabs offer of providing a new hard-drive (£75) because I knew I could buy cheaper in the Black Friday sales...so I did that and posted it to them - you only need to provide a new hard-drive if your data is over 12gb...

All in all - a good company and great service.

thanks

Complex data recovery completed successfully

Damaged hard drive requiring full reconstruction. Data that we thought we would never see again was totally recovered.

Sourcing component parts to repair hard drives is difficult and expensive, add to that the cost of man hours undertaking all the work and yes, you can expect a large bill. But if its a lifetime of memories or critical company data, its worth it... and a lesson learned!

5 Star's for Datatrack

Datatrack Labs successfully recovered data from my Toshiba hard drive which suddenly stopped working. I spoke with a rep of the company on the telephone who estimated a fee of £195 excluding VAT who made it clear that the cost is subject to assessment and the price may rise to a worst case of around £500 if the damage was severe.

The disk did indeed suffer from a very serious fault, having obtained other quotes from other companies I could see that £500 for this type of recovery was extremely good value, especially as they were offering it on a no data no fee terms. I agreed to the quote and 5 days passed before I received a detailed list of all the files which could be saved. Relief and delight at the same time, all my files were recovered. I promptly paid the fee and got all my data within 48 hours.

An outstanding experience from start to finish with a brilliant outcome.

Very good service. Maybe a bit pricey but worth it.

After a cheap USB card reader seemed to have erased a whole bunch of holiday photos on an SD card I decided not to mess around trying to fix it myself but just to pick a company and pay. After having bumbled around google trying to weed through the planted reviews and pick out the genuine compliments and complaints I settled on DTL.

And, based on this experience, I'm glad I did.

The recovery price inflated slightly from the quote (but - they do say clearly on their site that this may happen if your media is over a certain size) and I'm a little surprised they can't arrange "over the net" transfer rather than a slightly overpriced external harddrive. But the service was impeccable, they provide a full file list before you pay (which, in this case meant I could see they had recovered every single photo) and it was completed in substantially less time that quoted for the economy service.

If I mess up again, I'm definitely going back to them.

An (unfortunately) indispensable service

I had resigned myself to the loss of about 1TB of data. Nothing irreplaceable, but a fair bit of work to recreate the motion graphics and digital art less than 6 months old that I didn't have backup of. More out of laziness than desperation I decided to give DTL a punt even though their quote was higher than the manufacturers own to save having to ship the drive to Switzerland.
Their customer service was impressive though, following up on my original quote and preliminary diagnosis the next day. After dispatching the drive Special Delivery for the economy recovery service, it was a pleasant surprise to have the list of recoverable files returned to me within 48 hours.
Slightly more unwelcome was the inflation on the total cost (further bumped by the cost of a new drive, it's deeply surprising DTL don't have a corporate account with someone like WeTransfer for the recovered data) and it took nearly a week to self-justify the total expense to myself before giving the go-ahead to them.
Once again though, they performed the repair and recovery in a matter of days and within two and a half weeks of my original quote I had the recovered data in hand. While it wasn't 100% viable, I put this down to the nature of the drive failure more than any lack of skill on their part. Besides if I haven't missed anything that's corrupt by now, I was probably never going to use it again anyway.
In the end it worked out about double what Samsung themselves would have charged, but that's on me for not fully researching the warranty options when all this started.

TL/DR version: If you're in a hurry and you can afford it, DataTrack Labs service is the best option out there, but as I've learned the cheapest option is regular backups in the first place!
