*** Update 23-Feb-2026 ***
After I posted the original review, customer support reached out and assisted me in issuing a refund. It may take a few days before I see the refund, so standby for further updates to this review.
While I'm disappointed it took a negative public review to get the very result I was seeking when I contacted an agent via their chat support, I'm grateful they responded with a potentially positive outcome.
I will leave the original review below for reference but I will modify my star rating from 1 to 3 stars. And I will modify my title from "Avoid using DING for gift cards" to "Caution when using DING for gift cards."
I didn't succeed in obtaining my purchase, but an amicable resolution was met.
I will revoke my claim of "a joke and a scam" and preface this with a caution: that the system in use to coordinate gift card purchases is questionable. Before you initiate a purchase, make sure you have a means to contact the end-merchant in case issues arise.
---------- Original review ----------
I was seeking a way, as a US citizen, to send a birthday gift card by email to a friend in the UK. Several sites recommended Ding.com so I gave them a try. Don't, save yourself a potential headache. The actual transaction appeared to go well, and it was easy enough. However, when I went to redeem my voucher, I couldn't claim the gift card; I received an error which stated:
"Thank You for Your Patience! Your redemption is taking a little longer than expected. We're working on it. Please try again in 6-12 hours."
30 Hours later, I was receiving the same message. I had 6 hours remaining to my friend's birthday. I contacted support through the chat-bot. After dealing with useless AI-based replies, I was finally directed to a human support agent.
I can post the transcript on request, but I'm saving you the read. They pushed blame to the merchant and said they couldn't cancel or refund my purchase, and basically didn't care that I was screwed and now out money.
If a company claims to facilitate transactions to obtain gift cards on your behalf and converts currency, but then takes your money, doesn't guarantee delivery, and doesn't even provide an email receipt or confirmation... and THEN tells you to contact the merchant because it's not their problem, and doesn't even provide proper contact information, then they are a scam. They may provide other services that are worthwhile; however, their gift card system is a joke and a scam. I opted to use Prezzee instead, and got instant confirmation of my purchase, and confirmation when my friend opened their email gift. AVOID DING unless you just want to throw away your money to con-artists.

I sent top-up to two individuals in Cuba. They both told me they were unable to recieve the top-up sent. Ding did not warn me this could happen and refused to refund my money. Be very careful before you use this company without a guarantee that your money will be refunded if undelivered/not able to be accepted by the intended recipient

There was a special promotion a few months ago, a minimum monitory value however it had a good data value. I paid and sent it to a recipient in Cuba, it never arrived, I made countless inquiries and was told the receiver should have gotten it, however they did not and I was shown proof with various screenshots from their phone. This saga went in and on and Ding should have refunded me the very small amount I was owed. They did not and they did not even offer some kind of alternative . That was incredibly disappointing. The date of this is approximate as AI do not feel my time is worth going back in my records.
