Incompetent staff
Many times staff are unaware of the promotions in store. Many items which are on deals are not labelled or incorrectly labelled. Till system doesn't allow for easy corrections of mistakes/queries once a mistake has been identified. Staff knowledge is less than average despite shopping at different times and days. I'm in there at least 3 times a week so I think I've met most of the staff.
On a side note, online is even worst. It's been 5 weeks since my in-stock item never arrived. I emailed and waited 3 weeks without a reply. I rang customer services and a guy named John said the item was out of stock and that I wasn't charged. I emailed back with evidence I was charged and still no refund as yet!
Lastly, the cafe staff never seem to know how to apply the vouchers at the till. I never got my extra 500 points. The staff called a supervisor who glanced over and said "it looked right" and the staff said "I think it went through" but obviously it didn't.
Sadly, it's the only garden centre near me with everything I want so I still shop there at least 3 times a week...but I'm less than impressed.
Good choice of plants and products

What bad service
On visiting the Brighton Dobbies Garden Centre restaurant I was disgusted and embarrassed by the service I received. Firstly one of the Latte's was at half mast so I had to ask for extra milk. Then as we began to sit we were shouted at from 25 feet away to not sit where we were going to sit but sit elsewhere as it had just been cleaned & they didn't want to do it again!! As due to the Covid situation we wanted to sit apart from other people so as we were so angry at being shouted at we just sat down. There were another couple of ladies sitting about three tables away and they said to us " How rude she was".
From then on all the woman did was bang chairs and tables around us and also attempt to whistle as loud as she could as she swept the floor, also banging down on every table a reserved marker, just to make a point . Normally there have been reserved signs on the table to stop us sitting where they have cleaned but there were none, this time.
We could not observe her name as suddenly her name tag had been removed, it had been there earlier but she was too far away to see it. From earlier visits I assume she was an acting manager as she often told people what to do.
I have been a member of your garden centre since it opened & my renewal comes up later this month but there is no chance I could even think of renewing with that person remaining. I have never been treated so badly and rudely by any member of your staff before. Your comments would be most interesting. Thank you.
Everything you need under the same roof complimented by a great customer service!
I have been a client of this Garden Centre for more than 10 years, since we bought our house in Hanover.
My house, garden and pets have benefit constantly of having Dobbies Garden Centre (previously Wyevale) so close to us.
Their staff have been like a family to us, always make us feel welcome, chatting with us and loving unconditionally all our pets. I would like to say a massive thank you for their exceptional customer service and tell them how much we appreciate them every time.
A big shout out to Marnie, Sam, Jack, Geoff, Curtis, Tom, Rose (Pet shop), Louis, Del and many others which I can't remember their names right now!
They have helped me to build my garden from scratch, make it bee friendly with their great advice and expertise.
In addition, the Pets Corner shop has supplied us over the years with the best quality pet food, treats or products needed for our rescue dogs and cat.
Also, the supermarket it is a great addition to Dobbies Garden Centre, make it more desirable and useful, saving us to drive anywhere else.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all from Lory, Matt and Zena
We visited your Garden Centre today in…
We visited your Garden Centre today in Brighton. A friend and I have been visiting there regularly over the years, and we used to regard it as a most relaxing and pleasant way to spend a day.
We were bitterly disappointed by the service and the food in the restaurant, and the prices have risen considerably as well, which would be acceptable if the quality was equal to that given previously but sadly that was not the case.
The restaurant was absolutely freezing with no heating on, or at such a low temperature as to make no difference. Both doors were wide open and when we questioned why that was necessary, we were told, quite rudely, that that was the law and they had to remain open. We have been to many other restaurants and that is certainly not the case. Whilst we appreciate that perhaps it was done in order to try and keep the customers protected from Covid, most of the customers wore masks and were elderly so were presumably all triple vaccinated. My friend and I kept our jerseys, thick jackets and scarves on throughout our time spent in your restaurant.
During the nearly 5 hours that we spent there, the music piped into the room was on repeat and we had to endure the same songs repeated continually. Surely there must be some different tunes available?
When I purchased some gardening goods, I was assisted by a very helpful gentleman by the name of Louis (I did not get his surname unfortunately). He was very helpful, kind and courteous and helped me with loading and unloading 4 bags of stones and one hanging basket of flowers into our vehicle.
However, I was charged the wrong amount for the hanging basket. It was reduced to £6.99 and I was charged £22.99. For a pensioner on a reduced income this makes quite a difference for me in my budgeting, as I am sure you will appreciate. I do not have a car myself and my friend who joins me regularly for our outing to your Garden Centre lives in Petersfield so to get to your Brighton centre again to try and sort out this error, will be a problem for me. I am not sure when my friend will visit again and we were both bitterly disappointed in our day so will be reluctant to return in the future.
After many years of loyalty and regular visits to your Garden Centre, I am very sad that this will definitely be our last visit.
I hope that you will take this review seriously and hopefully, will try to improve the service in the future.

Generally good and the staff are super helpful. I don't like all the screens talking to me though, I find them annoying.
I'd also like more vegan/non-dairy cakes in the canteen, that would be nice.
I would also like to see more organic/non-harming methods of pest and disease control and more information about the different unintended impacts of using chemicals like glyphosate and insecticides - many people genuinely have no idea for example that metaldeyde slug pellets will poison hedgehogs, slow worms and birds and are horrified when I tell them.
Staff always helpful

I visited the garden centre to purchase new pots and plants in the summer. I found a great selection of beautiful pots which I have sited in patio areas of the garden. I found some lovely plants, later planted in various pots and also in beds. As I write this all are thriving.

We use Debbie's mainly for the cafe, although we mainlyonly have coffe/cake which are very nice. Occasionally we buy things in store when we find what we might need. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Janet Sharman
Dobbies Brighton
Dobbies Brighton is very pleasant and the cafe is reasonable.
However there aren’t as many deals and special offers for plants as there used to be when it was Wyevales Nursery. This is just my observation!
I had forgotten my club card
I had forgotten my club card , the staff went out of their way in helping me. So still had our free coffees. All staff I dealt with were polite and couldn’t have been more helpful. A credit to Dobbies.

Only problem at this time of year is that we can't use your resturant. We have a small dog and have to sit outside, OK when weather is good! Please make a small area available inside so we can enjoy having lunch etc. Our other garden centres already have these areas, Tates, British garden, and others, please can you help with this? Thanks.
Everything you Need
Always nice place to walk round , good selection of seeds, plants, blubs and gifts. Also grabbing a coffee and snack at the restaurant is a added bonus. With sainsbury in there as welm make it easy to grab milk, bread or something for dinner. Staff are always friendly and helpful.
