Quick delivery!

I received my medication 2 days after I submitted the webform. It was faster than contacting the local "vårdcentral" via their online prescription form service. That is amasing!
The questionaire was thorough, and they clearly make sure to get all relevant information to ensure the patient receives the correct dose and correct medication. I was impressed and I will use them again, purely for the fact that they are so quick to respond. The local service where I live, seems overworked and stressed, and my condition is chronic, so for me, the medication is well established, and the dose is unchanging. Its simply convenient that I can renew my medication at the drop of a hat, without having to wait for days to even hear back from the local doctor.

New regulations? Try telling us about them. Oh, and re-train your customer service people.

I used DokterOnline for over two years. I had no problems with them until this month, when I was informed that a new UK regulation has changed the way that medications are prescribed, especially online. I would like to preface this review by saying that I do not leave negative reviews. I make it a principle only to review a few products which leave me so impressed that I take time to compliment them. This will be the exception to the rule. Here are the four things DokterOnline did in the space of two days to take me from loving their service to being disgusted:

1. Without warning, they told me I could no longer order the same amount of medication each month (despite having spent thousands of pounds with them). I consistently ordered 232 tablets for £80 a month.

2. They doubled the price of the new maximum limit, meaning I was being asked to pay the same amount for half the amount of product I was ordering. I was now being asked to pay £80 for 100 tablets, twice a month, for fewer tablets: £160 for 200 tablets per month instead of £80 for 232 tablets. All of this instituted on the spot, without warning, when in fact the regulation (not legislation) was announced months ago.

3. They took my money and only days later cancelled my order, and still have not refunded me (funny how they cancel quickly and take so long to refund, isn't it?).

4. Their customer service team are unbelievably condescending and arrogant; at one point they even blamed Brexit — which hasn't happened — for their own conduct and pricing.

The arrogance and lack of tact in the two customer service personnel I spoke with warrants further scrutiny. I was prepared to accept that I could no longer get the same quantity of tablets I was used to, but I was irritated that I was now being charged more than double the amount for fewer tablets. I was even more irritated that I had not been told, and had to inquire on my own to find out more.

When I asked customer service to provide me evidence of the new regulation which made purchasing certain medications more difficult, they told me to do so myself. Why would a customer look at regulations that directly affect their business? It is quite literally their business; it is not the customer's duty to do their research for them.

When I asked why their prices doubled at the exact moment their new maximum limit had been enforced, they told me that "UK pharmacies have hiked up their prices." This is a bizarre statement seeing as DokterOnline operates for profit, sets its own prices, and it is simply impossible that UK pharmacies would re-negotiate the price of their tablets overnight. This obvious lie is infuriating. It makes no sense on various levels. No pharmacy would raise their prices overnight; only DokterOnline did that. They quite clearly took advantage of the regulation to raise their prices under the guise of being more caring about their customers. Anyone with a basic understanding of human psychology can see that they doubled their prices so that people reliant on medication would pay the same amount for less. This is the definition of a gain for them (higher profit margins with fewer sales) and a loss for the customer (less product for higher cost). This is not the fault of capitalism in itself; it's just bad business—if you want your customers to come back, that is.

So much for DokterOnline and their lies. What of the regulation itself, which is apparently the cause of their new maximum limits and doubled prices?

If you are interested, the regulation—which I decided to research for myself—was first instituted in April 2019. 8 months ago. Now, this is a piece of regulation, not legislation. It is more a set of guidelines than it is a law. It involved the head of pharmacies in the UK "sending a letter to the heads of online pharmacies" to tell them to better look after their customers, such as by asking for photo ID when purchasing medications online. This does not mean that online pharmacies cannot continue selling the same products; only that they need to ensure they are selling suitable amounts to real people. If you read the regulation (which, to repeat, I was condescendingly told to find for myself), you will see that the things DokterOnline tells you are simply incorrect. It comes down to this: they have a choice between implementing the regulatory suggestions (not laws), or they can stop selling products properly altogether. They chose the latter, because it was easier.

I wish I could say I was surprised, but their prices have always been exorbitant. Until this point it has been worth it for the exceptionally high quality of medication they offer, which is actually just the result of being able to choose which UK items you want to buy. Now, licking their lips behind new UK regulations, they have hiked up their prices and have no problem cancelling your order after taking your money. Who knows when they'll refund you? If you open a customer service chat, be prepared to cringe at their bizarre passive-aggressive employees.

When I asked their customer service "When did you find out about the new UK regulations?", they responded: "We only just found out." What this means is one of two things. Either 1: I was being lied to, or 2: A company which specialises in writing prescriptions and working directly with UK pharmacies does not pay any attention to UK regulation... except when they stand to lose money. The fact that there is still no information on their site about these new regulations is laughable. What planet are these people on? They not only seem to misunderstand their own business, they would rather say: "I don't know what you're talking about. Is there any other way I can help you?" and try to end the conversation as if they have helped. Of all the customer service interactions I have had the displeasure of engaging in, this ranks among the top.

Honestly, DokterOnline was a beautiful thing: they allowed you to take control of your medication without dealing with bureaucracy. Now, they have become an online version of the same nonsense we face in the UK.

If you're looking for a fast, cheap, foolproof way of getting what you want, go elsewhere. This site has had it. I do not know whether the language barrier is responsible for the sheer arrogance of their customer service team, but their ridiculous new rules—and total lack of openness about them—is inexcusable.

It would be a good thing if a competitor opens and shows DokterOnline how to keep their customers happy. The constant spiel about the evils of "Big Pharma" is numbing, but this site quite clearly has no interest in the wellbeing of their (long-time) customers.

Watch how they respond to this email. No doubt they'll say: "We don't control UK regulations; the UK pharmacies we work with did x and y." They will either ignore this email, or shift the blame onto any other part of the process. They will not take responsibility for their own failure to keep their costs down or look after their customers. I used this site for years, so I know them inside and out. This is a review you should listen to: this site is run by greedy people, and they don't care about helping you get what you are happy to pay for. They just want your money. (For the record, the only thing I ask for is my refund. If you ask for my details, I shall not provide them. Instead, why not start by refunding everyone you owe money to. That way you will refund my money and all the other money you owe to other customers waiting for your "financial department" to perform what is apparently their sole job, apart from raising prices.)

If this review seems passionate, that is because it is. When you are dealing with medication, and your company's philosophy is to "provide the customer with choice," when you mistreat your customers and limit their options in this way, and dismiss their questions, you fail to live up to your own standards. It is one thing for a bad company to be bad; quite another for a once-good company to become bad. DokterOnline has become bad, and this is because they have not reacted with intelligence. A shining example of online medicine has become an over-priced waste of time, unable to communicate with its customers.

The role of a good business is to provide value and in exchange earn a profit. DokterOnline no longer care about the first bit.

Avoid this site.

Finally, if there is anyone involved in the regulation of drugs: know that "clamping down" on online pharmacies and sites that provide prescriptions does not stop abuse of medications, it just forces people to use black markets, whether online or offline. For every one person who might stop using a medication because of the hassle, you have irritated ten more and forced them to pay criminals instead of providing taxable revenue. This new regulation, which has apparently destroyed the online pharmacy business overnight, is a disgrace and an overreaction to the opioid on a different continent. We are not Americans. We are talking about codeine and paracetamol, not fentanyl and heroin. Trying to criminalise and pressurise people who require or desire basic pain relief as if they were injecting heroin into their veins is embarrassing. From those of us who uphold our right to put whatever we want into our bodies, whether legal or illegal, we say:

Do not tell us what we can or cannot do with out own bodies.
