Accommodations are not worth the price we paid

My children loved the experience
EF Tours missed the mark for the price paid. I understand that some things are out of their control based on the location that you are going to but some things are not. 1.) I will start with the screening process for the teachers. I am not sure how this can be remedied but there need to be some kind of checks and balances in place to make sure that all of the teachers that are going as chaperones are going with the students' best interest in mind and not to just receive a free trip. At no point should a paying parent feel pressured to step in and act as a chaperone if they did not volunteer to do so. Nor should that parent feel like they are being penalized for not doing so. 2.) Travel days: When traveling on an overnight flight, the day of arrival should be set aside for acclimation and leisure. A person should not get off a daylong of airports, flights, and traveling and proceed to go on an immediate tour that lasts all day with no opportunity of taking a nap or freshening up. 3.) Bathroom breaks- going to the restroom on the tour that we went was an entire production. No one should feel rushed, be made to go when they don't have to, or be made to wait when they do especially in a location where public restroom are few and far in between. As a female with feminine issues while on this trip this made for a very uncomfortable first few days. Starting with the not being able to freshen up upon arrival. 4.) There is absolutely no need to power walk everywhere. I am not sure all the tours are like this but ours was. We walked ridiculously fast from one point to the next. Everything seemed like it was a hurry to get to the next thing. With such a large group there were more times than I could count where many people had to catch up, I am one of those people. At times I have to admit that I just did not care because the pace was way too fast and unnecessarily so. 5.) There were too many extra unplanned tours that cost money that filled spaces of free time we thought we would have. Not enough uninterrupted down time. We would be given 45 minutes then have to meet back up for people going on tour to be released again for free time if not going on tour. This was unnecessary and the people going on the tour could have just been the ones to meet up. All instructions could have been given at the first meet up. We also wasted time going back to locations that we had been to the previous days. 6.) Included meals: Someone with this program needs to take a serious look at the way meals are provided. For the amount of money paid the travelers should not find themselves hungry most nights or have to try to find places to buy supplemental meals once they have returned to the hotel for the night. I understand that people have allergies or dietary restrictions. However, this program needs to consider that sometimes people just don't like something. There should be 2 two 3 options to choose from not just simply here is what you have take it or leave it. The first night my son nor I touched our dinner and were extremely hungry but was not given another option. I saw several others that did not want theirs either. The second night we were required to share a small salad with tuna, don't eat tuna but was not given another option. Then given a small plate of a rice mixture. I ended up eating a little and giving the rest to my son because he was still very hungry. I saw several of the kids not eat at all and even more say they were still very hungry. I witnessed one of the chaperones speak with the group leader about asking the guides to stop somewhere for those that were still hungry to purchase something else to eat. This request was taken lightly by the group leader and the guide with the end solution being that we could walk to the store for snacks when we returned to the hotel. Was also told that the store closed at 9 and we would be back to the hotel around 8:30 so we would have to hurry. Another night included tapas with 5 small plates to be shared at a table of 4 so each person got one from the plate. The guides did end up ordering pizza for everyone that night thankfully. We came to realize that we had to try to fulfill ourselves during lunch which was on our own. However, lunches were thrown in during our free time and we were generally rushed or given a small window of time to try to do everything we wanted including eating. This whole process needs to be reevaluated. Breakfast was the only constant because it was at the hotel and generally had options. Overall I would not recommend EF tours based on the price and the experience. I am also aware that some of the tours were overpriced through the company. Some people paid for one but then everyone ended up being able to go even if they had not paid. Which was unfair to the people who had paid. Other alternative tours added were cancelled with little to no explanation.

Please note that some itineraries may be more fast-paced than others, depending on the schedule, but we always keep the needs and capabilities of our students in mind. Additionally, we do offer tours with a slower pace that allow for more free time.
Regarding meals, our included dinners typically feature a mix of both familiar dishes and local specialties, presented on a set menu at a local restaurant or in the hotel. It's worth noting that portions on our tours may be smaller than what travelers are used to in their home countries. We hope that this information helps you to better understand what you can expect on our tours. However, we understand overall it was a less than excellent experience for you.

My son enjoyed didn’t like the constant airports for travel especially with a large group
It was absolutely wonderful
There can be improvement especially with the hotels. Also at the restaurants that you have chose for the tour. The children should be able to choose from the menu what they would like for dinner. For the amount of money that we spend for this trip for our children they should have more choices and better accommodations
It was an experience worth having
It was a good trip… a lot of walking… we walked 41-45 miles that week!! Beautiful country!!!

Barcelona, Toledo, and Madrid were great destinations. EFs Tour Guide SONIA was top notch and by far THE BEST TOUR GUIDE I have ever experienced. EF Tour App was not helpful and was useless. Becuase there was virtually no free time on this trip, I won't be going on a big school supported trip with EF again. I did learn a lot and it was truly educational in the historical sense; I just didn't feel we had the chance to experience the culture, becuase we were always on the go, every hour of every day. There was so much crammed into each day and not a chance to experience local artisans, local eateries, random little shops along the way. Maybe also too, I have learned that vacationing with 56 other people in Spain may not be the best choice to truly experience another country.
Tour was great. My kid enjoyed it and planning was hassle free and safe.
The trip was rushed and the breakfast was very nice but the dinner was terrible. I was under the impression my daughter was going to experience the real Spanish cuisine not some prepared rice and sausage

Regarding the meals, we understand that the expectations for authentic local cuisine may vary. During the trip, we also encourage students to use their free time during lunch to be more adventurous and try local specialties at restaurants of their choice. This allows them to have a more immersive experience and discover the authentic flavors of the destination.
