My son had a great time. At his young age of 16. This was his once in a lifetime trip. He will never forget the experience. Thank you EF Tours.
The students were booked on three separate flights from Grand Rapids to O'Hare. The teachers who booked the trip with EF Tours was not adequately communicated to and insisted until the week before the trip that there was only one connecting flight. The parents finally convinced her of the three flights. Two of the flights from Grand Rapids to O'Hare were cancelled the night before requiring six travelers to leave Grand Rapids at 6am to drive three hours to O'Hare after being up all night trying to organize a way to get everyone to the next airport. EF Tours said they're not responsible for cancelled flights. There was minimal documentation provided about what would happen if flights were cancelled, and EF Tours was not part of the discussions or information sessions with parents. Everything was communicated to us by the teacher who booked the trip. Wouldn't it have made more sense to charter a bus so everyone on the trip could depart and ride together rather than being at the mercy of cancelled connecting flights? No compensation for the additional expense of driving to Chicago was provide despite multiple attempts by different families. Once the travelers made it to Japan, the tour was life-changing. The local guides were amazing. The experiences were plentiful. The food was authentic. The accommodations were comfortable. The trip back did not encounter any issues.

We loved Japan so much! It is my favorite place in the world. So I just had to take my students there. They loved the magic and unique culture of Japan…and of course the food. We loved our free time for shopping and eating. Takayama and Kanazawa were our favorites. Request a hotel closer to main area of Tokyo. It was a bit far for us.

It was a fantastic trip. So much to do and see. Great hotel and food accommodations. Transportation was good. Our local guides and tour director were very professional and knowledgeable. Would love to book another tour with EF in the future.

Overall this was absolutely an amazing trip and a great way to introduce people to Japan, the people, food, history, and culture. We would do this again in an instant. Areas done well: - Hotels were all really good. Most located centrally or near public transportation - Cultural activities were fun and educational. - we appreciate the flexibility of the schedule and free time - The guides and bus drivers were polite and engaging, tolerant of a group of teens and young adults -The Temple and Shrine visits were absolutely stunning and worth every moment - The ancient mountain village was a beautiful and historically rich excursion. Definitely worth the time - Excellent decision to add Skytree into the Tokyo visit, absolute must for visitors Areas for Improvement: - Flight transition time was too short on the travel to Japan. - Dinner was to prescribed, though the kids all made the best of it. Possibly offer some more flexibility for dinner plans - The meditation and spa day could have been cut for another day in Osaka. Most students did not use the spa and the meditation could have been done at another temple - The group spent too many hours in a few locations that offered nothing to do. We spent a morning in the gold district where we would be the next day, and almost everything was closed. We were just down from our hotel and would have been better just going to the hotel and then exploring from there. - The visit to the Castle and Gardens was another poorly planned event. We got in the bus to drive to the other side and then walked almost back to the hotel to start our tour. Then we went into an empty refurbished building to explore on our own. We could have just walked from the hotel… been released for the morning to explore… unless a guide is going to truly talk about the history and impact of the areas, then do not continue doing this the same way - We expected our guide to know a bit more about each of the places we visited. He seemed to lack historical or cultural understanding of the location or did not present it well - We spent two days lugging around more than necessary due to poorly planned travel and schedule. The bullet train day and we had a day where the bus never showed up and used public transportation. It would have been better to give the group time to better pack for a day of hiking and using public transportation. The decision was made and we all rushed off, rather than dropping off what we would not need for the day - overall time management by guide could have solved most challenges and led to an even more enjoyable experience. However, everyone still had a great time and we truly appreciated our guide!
Best experience, organization
The locations we visited, the tour guide that accompanied us, and the transportation methods were all phenomenal! I wouldn't change this tour at all!
Daughter had a terrific trip
It was a safe and fun way to experience a whole different culture.
Everything that was provided during the time.
Excellent trip, with a good sweeping experience of Japan - as the title of the tour suggests.
Asome culture people are very friendly and polite also all streets are very clean and have dispensing drinking machines
Our flight to Japan was canceled and EF your didn’t move too fast to get it rescheduled. We missed 3 days in Japan and they credited us a very small amount.

My son had a wonderful time in Japan. From the food, to the local shopping and sites seen we were pleasantly surprised at all of the stories he shared upon his arrival home.
