My son went on a 10 day trip to Japan and had an excellent time. The chaperones were helpful and responsive.

The whole trip was a great learning experience. Shirakawa-go Village was one of the most beautiful places I have seen in the world! The meditation and tea ceremony were incredible! We also went to Universal Studios in Osaka and Disneyland in Tokyo on our free days!
We would have enjoyed a tour involving more time in fewer cities, as our exploration was a bit rushed. Also, some chaperones were not able to walk sufficiently for the scheduled exertions, so more screening might be helpful.
A wonderful mix of different Japanese experiences.
This tour takes travelers to areas of Japan that are off the main track. It was very good. We wished that we could spend more time at each place because the tour covers many places, but the time given to each location was too short for some, while it was too long for others. I think that EF should have asked the Tour Leaders what the travelers' interest was, so that we can coordinate the times better. Also, the Tour Director on land makes a lot of difference of the tour. As a Tour Leader, I experienced several Tour Directors. This time, we had a rookie, which forced me to do more work than I anticipated. The students weren't aware, but I definitely felt the weight of the trip.
My daughter was left alone to go on her own in Japan. I was told that they were going to be three or more in a group and she had to do half of the things by herself. I would never let her go again. She did not love the trip.

Japan is always spectacular, but this tour captures the perfect balance of what makes Japan special. The perfect amount of time in rural and urban areas, traditional and modern. The real key was the deeply experiential nature of this itinerary. Students were hands-on with culture, whether it was creating gold-leaf chopsticks, making traditional matcha green tea, or cooking their own okonomiyaki dinner, everything was well taught and personally worked out by students. They would also learn the reason behind everything, showing the truly purposeful nature of Japanese culture. Nothing felt rushed, and there was always plenty of time to explore as needed. The guided sightseeing was also so helpful to learn the history and meaning of each location. The food was outstanding and diverse, while giving good "awkward" cultural challenges to stretch students and create opportunities to become more flexible in new situations, all while under the safety of the amazing EF Tour Directors and teachers. My children left with wonderful memories, a new understanding of the world and themselves, and some samurai swords, Pokemon, and unique candies. What a perfect experience that lasts forever. We Love Japan and EF! Thank you!
Trip was fun
Great trip. Great communication and planning.
Absolutely phenomenal tour! Get ready to walk up inclines, though. We walked about 70 miles over the course of the whole trip. The sites are amazing, the guide and Tour Director were thoughtful and informative. Go for the karaoke add-on--the kids loved it!
