Unfortunately, I would not recommend this tour. For what we paid, I don’t think the experience or accommodations justified the cost. There were certainly some beautiful places and good moments, but if I had it to do over again, I would plan the trip independently. One of the biggest problems was the amount of time we spent on the bus. There were extremely long travel days, and I think the entire itinerary actually would have worked better in reverse. It often felt like we were seeing Europe through a bus window rather than actually experiencing it. The scheduling at the destinations was also frustrating. Some of the places we absolutely loved were very short stops, and we would have gladly spent several more hours there. Then we were given hours in other locations, such as around the Beethoven House, where there wasn’t enough for us to do. The itinerary didn’t seem to prioritize time according to what there actually was to experience at each destination. The accommodations were disappointing for the price of the trip as well. Several places did not have air conditioning despite traveling during the summer. After spending hours on a bus, coming back to a hot room and trying to sleep made the long travel days even more exhausting. There was also very little flexibility. Our rooms were not booked together, and we weren’t able to change them. That was particularly frustrating when traveling with my son as part of an organized international trip. The flights were another major disappointment. We were unable to upgrade our seats, even if we were willing to pay for the upgrade ourselves. On a long international flight, that is a significant issue. When you’re spending this much money on a trip, there should be some mechanism for travelers who want to purchase better seating rather than being locked into whatever group seating is assigned. The group structure was also not what we expected. We were combined with people from other groups we didn’t know, which created some uncomfortable and unusual group dynamics. There were also students who appeared to require considerably more supervision and support than others, and at times those situations affected the experience of the entire group. There was even an incident during an outing involving a student having a bathroom accident. I understand that things happen, especially when traveling with students, but it raised questions for me about how participants are evaluated for a demanding international group trip and how additional support is handled when someone needs it. I do want to give credit where it is deserved. Our tour guide, bus driver, and teacher were all great. They were helpful, professional, and did everything they could. My criticism isn’t directed toward them. They were working within an itinerary and system they didn’t create. And there were absolutely beautiful places on this trip. In fact, part of the frustration was finding somewhere we loved and then having to leave almost immediately because the bus had to move on to the next stop. For me, the biggest issue comes down to value. This is an expensive trip, and for that price I expected better accommodations, more thoughtful scheduling, more flexibility with flights and rooms, and substantially less time sitting on a bus. If you’re comfortable planning international travel yourself, I think you could take the same amount of money and create a much better trip: visit fewer places, stay longer in the places you actually enjoy, choose better hotels with air conditioning, select your own flights and seats, and avoid spending such a large portion of your vacation traveling by bus. We did make some great memories, and I’m glad I was able to experience Europe with my son. But knowing what I know now, I would not choose to do this tour again, and I would not recommend it for the price.

I have taken 6 tours now and this was the best one yet. The kids had a great time and learned a lot. The experience was fantastic and everything went above expectation. Great tour.

This tour exceeded our expectations. Do not overlook this one if you are a group leader. We went from literal mountain tops to mines deep in the Earth and unlocked our senses of adventure, along with our senses of cultural adaptation. It was in no way as crowded and jampacked as some of the tours that rely on the major cities, and it offered delights that proved universal to my whole group at every stop. The culture of Bavaria is rich and has had lasting impact on our culture as Americans, and my students were picking up connections left and right. The literal only complaint I had from travelers was about the heat, and that is a global problem. Nothing that EF could fix. Check the weather closely before you travel, and bring handheld electric fans and maybe make space in your bags for a small bedside fan. Beyond that, prepare for the time of your lives.

This tour was a great pace for students and parents. The bus time allowed us to retreat from the heat to air conditioning and we had a wonderful TD (Susanne Gropper) that offered a variety of options for free time that the students enjoyed. From shopping, to swimming, to pointing out historical places to check out, free time was a great way for the group to explore on their own between the guided tours. We had a wonderful time on this tour and loved the activities.

Great trip, all accommodations and transportation were nice and clean, we saw many amazing sights in a short time. Tour guide and driver were kind and knowledgeable. Time management could be improved: we only got a little over an hour for exploring downtown Munich, for example. Also, some hotel locations could be improved, because we drove 2 hours each way at times, before turning right around and driving out the same 2 hours from the day before. Also, I've seen plenty of direct flights that don't require a 4 hour layover in Toronto for similar prices on other airlines. If I did it again, I'd book my own flight. Also, I thought the tour guide was a little laissez faire about letting 13 year old children loose in the streets of Munich without much of any instruction. I understand we're looking to develop some freedom here, but that place was crazy and there was a festival going on, and several of the kids were brand new to travel. I know some of them had phones, but that's a lot of responsibility to put on the phone. Guide could have been a little more hands on when the situation required it.

My students and I had a fabulous trip from our pick up at the airport to each and every destination all the way back to our drop off at the airport. Everything was planned out perfectly and I could not ask for a better overall experience.
