Deceased Account Holders

My parents are both Deceased within the last year. I have attempted to close the credit card accounts handled by Elan, but have been unable to do so. I have called dozens of times. Multiple hang ups. Multiple misconnects. When I do get a person, I submit all of the paper work that they request. Estate Documents, POA, Death Certificate, etc... Despite this, the account remains open. I try again. Same result. I have the Credit Union that the card is through try to handle the situation. Same result. This is ridiculous. During the worst moment in my life, and I have to deal with this complete incompetency. Literally every other company I have had to deal with regarding this situation has quickly and easily resolved all of my requests.

Only Elan Financial has made this process difficult. Out of dozens of other companies, only this one is unable to help me close my deceased parents accounts.

Their fraud protection is nonexistence…

Their fraud protection is nonexistence . i had disputed 2 charges with legitimate consumer companies the claims were less than $50 and they re credited it after about a dozen phone calls. But when I got scammed out of $200 by scammers they did absolutely nothing they were rude condescending and told me it was my fault. Apparently if there's a problem with a legitimate business they may do something about it but if it's a scammer you are SOL

The customer service reps are rude

The customer service reps are rude! I was at the store trying to contact the company and the ghetto rep came on spitting off at the mouth! I wish would have gotten her name! If you don't like answering phones for 10 dollars an hour get another job!!

This is a sub company

This is a sub company. The people who issue you the card will refer you to them. Elan will refer you back. You won't be helped. Their general attitude seems to be, take advantage of the customer. If you do business with them. They will teach you to distrust them.

Every time its time to make a payment…

Every time its time to make a payment on my account. I go onto the app and use face recognition and it tell me that I have to enter my password. I know of very few people that walk around with all of there passwords. Please help me to be able to make my payments on time. I called in about this problem on 4 other occasions and to no avail. Please help me in this matter all of the rest of my card with other company work fine and I have never had a problem with them. I am currently on hold talking to someone and from your company, because I asked for a supervisor.

No Protection from Unauthorized Charges

Protection from unauthorized charges is long gone with this company. Having had their card for many years and thinking that being a Visa card I had some protections I find I was sadly mistaken. When an appliance repair company can electronically produce a fraudulently fabricated receipt and with my signature fraudulently applied to it in four places there is a serious problem. Especially since I already provided copies of the cancelled check that paid for the service. This is their evidence why they will not backcharge the repair company. Maybe this is also why their investigator won't return phone calls. Doesn't fraud mean anything anymore?

Elan Financial-do not trust them

Cardmember services is a fake name used by Elan Financial. Despite being the company that approves the accounts and manages the accounts, they bill using the name of the company that they provide the credit services for, so the consumer never knows who they are dealing with.

The company recently closed my accounts. The did not tell me that they were closing the accounts or why they closed them.

Several months after the accounts were closed I received a letter stating that the accounts were closed because they had been past due, which is a lie because the accounts were set up on automatic payment through the bank that contracted with this company. When I challenged Elan they changed their tune, said that I should not have received that letter that I received and that the accounts were never past due. They however, refused to reopen them.

My suggestion is that you do not do business with this company, or any of the companies that they provide credit services for.

Poor customer service

Poor customer service , they keep transferring you to another representative and each one has y long wait time. They sent me a zero percent offer but the actual card was %29 interest.
Still 3 months after they have no idea when they will correct it.
For a balance transfer it has been 2 weeks and they haven’t done it yet!

Terrible Company

Terrible Company. Did not fight for my rights like every other credit card company I have ever had. What a complete joke. I will not trust them with my business ever again.

Normally I've had a good experience…

Normally I've had a good experience with this card company but lately, the problems are more and more frequent. Several payments post late or in the last case not at all after a large one. Calling customer service I was told it would "post today" but nothing happened. Charges are also not showing up, so they have a serious system problem, which concerns me greatly.

Trash company/ owes me money and won’t pay it. Stay FAR away.

This place is absolute trash. They overpulled more than they were allowed with direct seposit(I use my debit for the rest of my bills when the card is maxed, then I get those points back). They kept pulling regardless. Customer service is elementary and does a terrible job. Multiple people at my bank are dealing with the same thing. I’d leave 0 stars if possible. I cancelled my card before they pulled anything else and now they WON’T let me redeem my points.
Absolute trash of a company. Hope that they go out of business so they can’t screw people over anymore. Oh yeah, they NEVER tell you what’s pending on your balance. They act dumb about it. Do yourself a favor and don’t use his terrible “company.”

My wife had a card through Elan and…

My wife had a card through Elan and they cancelled it without notice. Then they were unwilling to help her out or answer her questions. She had a secured line of credit and they bawked at giving her back the money that she issued them for the secured line. When she called them she got bounced for over 3 hours before she got someone who said they were unwilling to help and wouldn't be sending an email or letter notice. Absolutely a trash company to work with duck and cover before they defecate all over you.

Elan is too difficult to deal with

My father recently passed away with an outstanding balance on his credit card. I notified them of his death and they promptly cutoff online access to his account and since he was only receiving electronic statements so I can't even retrieve it online. I am executor of his estate and called to request that they mail out an itemized statement to his address on file so that I could review it for payment. They will not do this unless I provide them with documentation proving that I am the executor. I had been a POA and authorized user of the account prior to his death - but even that's not good enough. They don't allow you to upload documents - they only accept fax or snail mail. They continue to send emails wanting payment but refuse to provide a written itemized statement when asking for payment. They are happy to send an email to his estate saying they will seek payment, but they will not provide proof that they are entitled to payment. I am not jumping through hoops just so I can pay a bill.

elan signature visa 1.5% not 2% cash back

I have a signature visa credit card thru elan linked with fidelity. All advertisements say the card is supposed be giving 2% cash back on purchases but my card only gives me 1.5%. I called elan and after a long time researching the service rep told me that since I am a long standing customer I have the old rates. In order to get 2% I have to re-apply for a new card. I expect this will affect my credit score and will definitely cost me to have credit freezes temporarily removed during the application process. Elan could have saved a customer by doing this automatically.

I was assumed my fathers POA when he…

I was assumed my fathers POA when he was admitted to Assisted living six months ago. He has Alzheimer's and cannot remember most things day to day. Someone recently requested a change of address on this Elan credit card. I have advised Elan to cancel this card as neither my father or I requested this change. It has to be fraud. Even after providing Elan with copies of the POA documents, they refuse to cancel the card or account. They even asked for my SS# and birth date to add me to the account - which is absurd given that it is a fraudulent account or has been compromised at the very least. To Elan, my father has ZERO income and ZERO assets, so cancel the fraudulent account or don't - you have been given notice multiple times. The account has been reported to Equifax as fraudulent or compromised as well.

UPDATE: Elan has now cancelled the card.

I opened this credit card account in…

I opened this credit card account in 2009 with a $1,500 limit. I used the card quite often over this span but when I requested a limit increase several years ago it was denied (I have never missed a payment and have a credit score over 800). I also have a Chase card with a $16,000 limit ($0 balance) a Discover card with a $18,000 limit ($0 balance) and a Citi card with a $20,000 limit ($0 balance). I do use these cards every month, but pay them off as well. I understand completely how credit scoring works and the higher the utilization percentage is on a revolving account the more it lowers your score, so I tend to use the cards with the higher limits. I received a letter today that my account had been closed due to it not having any activity within the past 12 months. The issue I have with that is that I had accumulated over 42,000 points that could have been redeemed for merchandise that they also took away from me. I had not used the points already because I was saving them for a higher valued item. There was never any notification letting me know that if I didn't use the card soon it would be closed without my consent. Long story short, this is not a good long term card to obtain. They don't allow you a respectable credit limit (which works against your credit score if you carry a balance) and if you are fortunate enough to be able to pay it off and don't have to use it for 12 months they will close the account without any notification and take away any points you have earned with your years of usage. I did contact them to ask for assistance or explanation and was told I could apply to re-open the card if I wanted but that the points accrued would not be returned to me. No thank you. There are much better companies out there that don't treat their loyal customers that way.

I was a little skeptical about working...

I was a little skeptical about working with Elan services as there were very few to no reviews about them online. Not counting the ones on their website. FYI, these reviews are also not 100% legit as i tried reaching out to those people under whom the reviews were added. Although they all were the clients of Elan, these students had no idea that they ever submitted the review.

Back to my issue, i got in touch with elan by the end of September. I had only one month in my hand to pay the deposit and book my seat at college. The same was also communicated to the representative from Elan.

At first I wanted to go through banks, However, since my case was very complicated, they convinced me to consider NBFC

I got a call from one NBFC the next day and i updated the representative from Elan about this. The person from NBFC said that although your case is complicated we can sanction you a loan of 15lacs without any issues. He requested me to share all the documents. After that i didnt really used to hear from him unless i give him a call. And every time i used to call him he used to ask me same questions or ask for some new document. When all this was happening i used to communicate everything to the Elan representative. He was even kept on cc on all my emails to the NBFC.

This went on for more than 10 days, when i escalated the issue, the person from Elan shared a different contact with me from the same NBFC. When i called this person, he straightaway rejected my case. I was shocked as I was promised that loan will be sanctioned.

While all this was happening the representative from Elan chose to remain silent. The NBFC was not showing any sign of progress and Elan services chose to just watch. At this point I did not really understand the purpose of Elan. I mean, if its the student who has to work with the banks or NBFCs, we would directly reach out to them. What do we need you guys for. I thought following up with them and making sure there are no delays is your job.

This issue has cost some serious damage to my plans. If i had received a clear answer from your team i would have chosen some alternate ways.

There are just 2 things i want to tell Elan services,
1. Only talking and verbally promising students will not help you if your actions are not justifying those words.
2. You get cases on daily basis but for a student its their dream. They at least deserve to know a clear answer yes or no.

My feedback for other students would be to work with Elan only if you have an alternate plan ready.
