My 9 year old water heater was leaking…

My 9 year old water heater was leaking and decided to go with a tankless from LG. I decided to leave Enercare after being lectured by one of their own over missing one payment during my 42 year history with Enbridge/Enercare.
They wanted to charge me a buy out from 2020. Sent pictures of rusted and leaking tank to them. It took a picture of model number, serial number and date of mfg. to convince them it was a 2016 replacement and not a 2020. Still charged me $630.00.
Crooks don't want to go to court, just send it to collections Cowards

Poor customer service

I am extremely unhappy with Enercare’s billing process. Their representatives seem poorly trained and are often unable to resolve billing problems that their own system creates. As a customer, you are forced to make multiple calls just to find the right agent who actually understands the issue and can fix it.
Unfortunately, you have to request their supervisors. Dealing with this company is exhausting and frustrating. I would not recommend Enercare based on my experience.

Very bad experience

Very bad experience. I hadn’t used the maintenance plan for years, so I cancelled it in March. When I called, customer service offered me six months free to stay, but I declined. The representative then told me that this month’s fee would be refunded by check and never mentioned that I will be charged for remaining contract.

However, a few days later I received a bill for the remaining six months. I called again, and a different customer service representative said the billing department would get back to me within two days, but no one followed up. Two weeks later, I was charged for the remainder of the contract.

Kayla Denomme from Enercare followed up on my complaint and responded very quickly. It took a few rounds of follow-up with the billing department, but I finally received my refund. I originally rated the experience one star, but because of Kayla’s excellent support, I gave her five stars instead — averaging out to an overall rating of three stars.

Absolutely the worst company in Canada…


Absolutely the worst company in Canada to deal with by far. I have been renting a tank from them since 2008 and when I needed a new hot water tank and they wanted to charge me an additional $350 for the same tank from HomeDepot installation included as a buyout. You would think that if I have been a customer for so long with them they would have matched HomeDepots price but they did not. As a result I had to pay $100 to buy out the old tank and break my contract so I can have the new tank installed by HomeDepot. Beware they don’t care about service and more about the money!

Avoid Enercare water heater rentals at…

Avoid Enercare water heater rentals at all costs.

I’ve been paying $63.95/month for a water heater that came with my “new build” home—something I never actively agreed to. After 4+ years, I tried to get out of this rental and it’s been nothing but frustration.

They refused to provide me with my contract and told me to “contact the builder” instead. That’s unacceptable. I’m the one paying every month—why is it so difficult to get basic documentation?

On top of that, the buyout cost for my unit is outrageously high, making it nearly impossible to exit without paying thousands. This feels like a trap designed to lock homeowners into long-term payments.

Over time, this rental will cost far more than the actual equipment is worth. Most people don’t realize this when buying a new home, and it’s not clearly explained upfront.

This whole setup lacks transparency and feels extremely predatory.

If you’re buying a home:

Check if there’s a rental contract attached
Demand full details before signing anything
Seriously consider opting out

I would never recommend this company based on my experience.

The bulbs of the house burnt oneby one…

The bulbs of the house burnt oneby one over heated and burnt out bulb we called them they arranged for five days after and no one responsible that we get membership for enare care in access so we don't have to live 5 days in dark until they come. So much frustrating

Mr. Clark (Plumber) Enercare

Mr. CLARK, plumber, from Enercare, Peterborough, is a very knowledgeable plumber. He fixed 2 plumbing problems for me, in a timely manner. He is kind, considerate and such an approachable guy. He was respectful of my home, as well. He answered all my questions, even the silly ones. He represents Enercare very well.

Awful Experience

Booke a service appt for today from 8-12, had to take time off work as they wouldnt accomodate my schedule and I need hot water. It is now almost 1pm and no one has shown up. I first called at 11:45 for an update and they said the technician would be here in 30 minutes. Called back 35 mins later and agent said he would reach out to the department for an update. He pout me on hold now for 37 minutes and counting. No update, now almost 1pm. No wonder enercare reviews are so bad. This is just disrespectful now. Pretty sure this agent is purposely just seeing if I will hang up.

Two techs cause damage for a senior lady!

Two Techs recently came to install a new gas water heater in my basement area. They were not directly from Enercare. They didn't introduce themselves and went to the basement. I was called down and one tech said we can't do the installment because "there's a bed against the wall"??? I said, "What does that have anything to do with installing a water heater". I could hardly understand their accents! "Can't have anyone in the room next to where the water heater is in case of a gas leak"! I have carbon monoxide detectors in the house and that bed in the next room would be gone very soon! Nope..can't install! The other tech says they can install another heater but "it will cost you a lot of money"!! I'm a 77 year old lady and I was literally shaking by then and told them to leave! There boss called me back and explained in english that I could understand about the other heater choice and the cost. I said OK and the two techs came back in talking to each other in their "language" and standing there with my front door wide open until I had to tell them to shut the door I had the heat on!!! The head tech then proceeded to start to take out tiles from the basement suspended ceiling and bent one in half ripping a chunk out the side and leaving a bend mark thereby destroying that tile. I told him to stop but he didn't listen. I called their boss about the damage and he all but gave me the "cold shoulder" and didn't seem to care! I cancelled the new appointment date the next morning after only sleeping about 4 hours that night! I won't have these two back in my house ever again!

fixed furnace in a timely manner. Kevin was polite and kind. Went the extra mile to ensure that the problem was corrected, then checked and double checked. He was very informative but not pushy. Installed a new thermostat for my convenience. Great guy! I wish that all services were like this.

Not Terrible Service, Non-Existent Service

Possibly the worst customer service possible. The customer service is not based in Canada. We had a gas leak and Enbridge turned off our gas. We waited 7 hours for Enercare and then they canceled our emergency service call. They do not offer 24hr service. Get a local company with local customer service. These guys are useless.

The technicians were Christian, Michael and Dawson

The technicians, Michael and Dawson, who installed our new hot water heater in Uxbridge April 9th were both efficient and very pleasant. We would give them both a 5/5 or 10/10 (highest rating)

Our service technician, Christian McGaffen, was equally pleasant and efficient with the repair completed on Monday, April 6, 2026. We would rate Christian a 5/5 or 10/10, the highest rating

The 3 guy were here right on time . Adam, Nick, & Scott were very efficient & had my hot water heater installed in about an hour & a half . They left everything clean & tidy . You would never know that they were even here !! Good job guys !!
