5* experience
Extremely professional from start to finish
Couldn’t be happier with my bathroom
Highly recommend:)
Excellent service. They offered good advice on the layout , tiling options. The finish is excellent , they were quick and tidy. Highly recommended .
I wanted to be fair and reasonable in this review so I have waited a little over a year to write it. My hope was that I would be less upset and feel less ripped off with their work. I also hoped to stop finding examples of poor workmanship in the one and only project carried out for me by Essex Bathrooms and Kitchens.
Essex Bathrooms and Kitchens started renovating a bathroom for me in October 2020 and I was told that the work would take two weeks. In February 2021after one serious flood onto our fuse box, their inability to find and stop a leak and repeated disputes about the quality of their work, Lewis and his team were told that their services would no longer be required.
Over a year on from ending work together I do still occasionally find the most bizarre and substandard pieces of work with three notable exceptions:
1) The tiler's work is really good, he completed his work quickly, to a high standard and was really clear about the options we could have with tile patterns and positions
2) Of the numerous plumbers and fitters who worked with us, one was clearly capable and conscientious; Gavin. The rest, not so much
3) The specialist who finishes the installations with the silicone is also a real pro.
Apart from these three pluses the rest of the project was a bit of a nightmare and will eventually lead to us stripping out and replacing/refitting what should have been a very pleasant £10k bathroom (£8k after dispute).
In the interest of brevity, I will keep the negative part of my review to the biggest problems:
1) Surveying - one of the causes of delay was that furniture units had to be returned and the slow lead time of replacements did cost several weeks. When furniture did arrive, it did not fit because Essex Bathrooms and Kitchens had not considered how much space would be required for what had been ordered. They did measure up early on but failed to grasp how much space they had to work with. So it was left to us to work out what size units would fit Poor survey, poorer service.
2) Preparation - surface preparation is critical in this sort of project and sadly it was lacking on all surfaces that were not tiled. Dot and dab work does not last when the render on the wall also needs replacing, I would expect professionals to know this. When plaster work began to crack before the project was completed we had to argue for even the most basic and substandard of remedial works which have not even lasted a year. Further to this, the expensive trade paintwork has started to flake off and given that it was all painted (who knows if it was sealed) in a few hours I am sure this is down to poor quality or no surface preparation.
3) The flood - When our shower was replaced the plumbers experienced a blockage in the new unit and spent a couple of days trying to get to the root cause only to find that it was their own soldering blocking the new pipes. In the process of trying to blame everyone apart from their own work; something I had done while they had been away, Aqualisa for sending a broken valve... the two plumbers opened the mains water and emptied approximately 40 litres of water into the bathroom, which was not connected to any waste. So water rained down on to the lower level of our home and fuse box. This incident upset our workmen very much who did some mopping up and left for the day without much of an apology.
4) Poor standard of work - maybe this doubles up on the point above but the general quality of work and failure to adopt any sort of good practice needs to be highlighted as I am still finding examples of shoddy work. Ignoring the flood and a leak they could not find and fix, we had disputes about fixing things like basins and toilets in place. The bath panel was fixed in a way that meant when trying to locate a leak they literally had to break it to remove it. When the mechanical fixing on the popup waste broke, the connecting rods were connected back together using silicone. I find a lot of silicone where I would expect to find mechanical fixings.
5) The attitude/communication - It was a fight to get most of our snags fixed and some of the ones that were complete were for appearance only e.g when we insisted that the toilet should be screwed down to the floor a 3/4" woodscrew was dropped into silicone in a hole in the floor tiles, it doesn't even reach the floorboards! During one visit Lewis was keen to remind me that he's "been doing this for 24 years". He had no interest in what needed to be done and was much more concerned with defending the indefensible. I'm sure this makes him great to work for, sadly not what I want from a service provider.
In construction projects I am used to tired excuses from "Bodge it and Scarper". Essex Bathrooms and Kitchens provided some terrible excuses and took an inexcusably long time to manufacture something that resembles a crime scene.
We had reason to call Essex Heating & Solar out recently & they were very prompt, came next day & were polite, helpful & did a great job. They are very efficient & we would thoroughly recommend them!!!!
Essex Bathrooms and Kitchens were fantastic from the moment we got a call from them, to the moment they finished. Smooth easy process, from the quote to the showroom to the installation to the final product.
Lewis knows his stuff and assured us we were getting a bathroom we envisaged. His whole team, Martin, Jake, Gavin, Tom and others (sorry didn't get all their names) were professional and friendly. Work started on time and they made sure they cleaned up afterwards. Even when I had a few minor issues they were resolved with no fuss. I am happy to recommended them to anyone and will be using them for my Kitchen re-fit. I thank you all for an amazing job on my bathroom, it looks amazing.
Perfect, honest and wonderful company.
Simply put this is an amazing company headed up by the legend that is Lewis.
From the moment we met Lewis we knew that the work would be completed to a high standard and it was.
Lewis is not out to make a quick buck from his customers. He has a clear business ethos, provide a good service at competitive prices.
We had a full bathroom refit and the end result is brilliant.
It is the little things that really make me rate Essex bathrooms and kitchens.
We asked Lewis if we could have a sample of the tiles we were going to put up and he made sure one of this team drove down to us to pass this on.
The project manager Gavin took his shoes off without me even asking - showing that he respects people's homes.
Then there was Martin, he was superb. Hardworking and always with a smile on his face. I asked him if he could fill in some holes in our hallway and he did so without fuss.
Also, have to mention Jake who was classy and a credit to his profession.
Thank you so much to everybody at Essex bathrooms and kitchens.

We had Lewis and his team to install a new bathroom. Every member of the team were professional, very polite and extremely tidy. Taking care of making sure our hallway, stairs and landing were covered and also making sure that our front garden was kept clean and was swept and washed down everyday. Lewis was always available for any queries that we had. Nothing was too much trouble, I changed my mind about floor tiles, this was sorted out, with no problem. The workmanship is of a very high standard and have already recommended our friends to them. Lewis made sure that we were happy with the work before it was signed off. Excellent job, faultless and we highly recommend them. We would definitely use them again in the future.

Would certainly recommend Essex Bathrooms, Kitchens, and Bedrooms. We had our kitchen fitted by Essex and it was great from beginning to end. The team were great specifically the project manager and kitchen fitter. All friendly and professional, not cutting corners ever and only finishing when we were happy.
Will certainly be using them again for other rooms in our home.

Essex Bathrooms & Kitchens have just completed a complete overhaul of my en-suite and I have to say I am super impressed with the finished product.
From the very first interaction with Lewis (at the quote stage) I was really impressed by the knowledge and creativity shown. Getting the quote refined based on our personal tastes and tile selection was a breeze due to the extensive range available and again the advice presented.
The installation took longer than expected but man was it worth the wait (the guys were brilliant!!!). The tiling was completed flawlessly and I mean flawlessly. The grout lines around the en-suite are spot on and even the mosaic feature in the shower is perfectly aligned. The mastic team (who knew there was a specialist mastic team!!!) completed the process and the finish this gives just sets it apart from anything I've seen. From the start the installation was checked for quality by the Essex Bathrooms & Kitchens managers/foremen.
Before you ask, no i;m not being paid to give this review and i don't work for Essex Bathrooms & Kitchens either :)
I have bought houses and been through this process a number of times (kitchens AND bathrooms) and never have i had the pleasure of working with such a professional, capable and skilled team. Super happy and absolutely recommend Lewis and team.
Thanks to Essex Bathrooms & Kitchens !!

I can highly recommend this company. My wife had wanted a new kitchen for a while, Natalie came and measured and drew up the plans and my wife approved and very much liked them, Sadly my wife
very suddenly passed away later that week. I contacted Natalie a couple of months later to see if she still had the plans, she did so i decided to go ahead with the install. From day one the team were very professional and the main fitter [Trevor] worked very safe and clean and always kept me informed on the progress, and always wore a mask whilst working. The quality of the kitchen is well made to a very high standard. i'm very pleased and sure my wife would have been too.

From start to finish excellent work from the team. No issue was never too much of a problem.Having previously asked a well known highstreet firm starting with a W for a quote who took one look at the location and refused to even consider the work I was so pleased that they just got on with the job. Bathroom looks amazing and just what I wanted. Kevin and Connor worked amazing long hours to get the job completed.Left the site tidied up everyday and had a final Hoover before they finally left. The backup teams of lads who did all the heavy carrying of equipment to the location were also great lads. The office team of Lewis , Gavin and Samantha were also always helpful.Great family firm.

I would like to say a big Thank You to Essex Bathrooms for my wonderful new bathroom! It’s beautiful!
We did have some problems along the way, strange old flooring, weird wall!
But throughout the experience Dan & Bailey were amazing!
They were really helpful and they explained everything that was happening and what needed to be done.
Also thanks to Gavin for coming back to finish the last minute bits!

We are very pleased with our new kitchen. There were a few little snags that had to be rectified but overall the craftsmanship of the workers were excellent. We have used them previously for our bathroom and we were very pleased with that. Natalie and Lewis were always there to help and reassure that everything went smoothly.
