Membership price increases without notice and unable to cancel for a further month

Gym membership at Everlast Ewell increased to almost double without a warning in February for myself and my elderly mum. Now I have been told we can not cancel and will have to pay for March because we didn’t give enough notice. I emailed in the day the direct debit was taken which gives ample time a month actually until the next payment in march is due. If I had known it was about to increase I would have been able to give more notice. I feel this is terribly unfair to us both we have been loyal members for a number of years now with Everlast and previously sports direct I have never know anything like it.

I tried this gym today using a free day pass.
The staff were really friendly and the atmosphere in the gym was chilled out. Excellent modern equipment to work on every muscle in different ways.
The swimming pool and steam room facilities are all inclusive.
I signed up to a year's membership before I left, plus, a bit of blue light discount on top. Bonus!

Wouldn’t not recommend

They make it so hard to cancel your membership, was such a confusing and difficult process and I ended up getting charged double even though I sent emails and said over the phone

Very overcrowded

Very overcrowded. You can’t turn up with a plan for your workout, you need to turn up and fight to get on any machine. I’m in my 14 day cooling off period and trying to cancel my membership is turning into a nightmare. If you’re planning on joining, do o one month first to see how it is before you commit.

Cancelled membership due to staff conduct

Unfortunately my partner and I have cancelled our memberships following an incident that made us feel unsafe and unwelcome at this gym.

My partner and I were using the gym when we had been waiting several minutes to use the lat pulldown machine. When the previous user finished and left, I sat down and began my exercise. At that point, another gym member approached us in a rude and aggressive manner, claiming he had also been waiting and should be allowed to use the machine before me.

I attempted to de-escalate the situation by suggesting we alternate sets, which he refused, stating he would rather wait. I agreed to this. However, he continued to stand next to us, repeatedly complaining and harassing us about not using the machine first. As his behaviour became increasingly irate, I asked him to leave us alone, as I considered the matter closed.

A staff member then intervened. Unfortunately, rather than defusing the situation, he escalated it significantly. He behaved in an aggressive and intimidating manner, getting very close to me and telling me I needed to be more courteous. He also made vague remarks suggesting that “things could go further,” which I felt were threatening. When I attempted to explain what had happened, he interrupted me and stated he did not need to hear my side, claiming he had overheard the entire exchange. He then made a confusing and inappropriate comment that “your girlfriend has been looking at me.”

What was particularly concerning is that the staff member focused solely on me, did not address the other gym member’s aggressive behaviour at all, and sided with him completely without properly assessing the situation. Feeling unsafe and outnumbered, I reluctantly agreed with the staff member in order to end the confrontation.

Immediately after the incident, my partner and I observed the same staff member enter the yoga studio, remove his shirt, and flex in the mirror with the door open, which we found unprofessional and unsettling.

As a result of this experience, we felt unsafe and unwelcome in the gym and made the decision to cancel our memberships. When I requested cancellation at reception, the same staff member told me that I did not understand “standard gym etiquette.” I have been a regular user of multiple gyms across the UK for over ten years, making this comment both unnecessary and incorrect.

This experience fell far below what I would expect in terms of staff conduct and member safety, and I would not feel comfortable recommending this gym based on how the situation was handled.

Locker broken into by staff

A staff member broke into the locker I was using whilst I was in the gym. The company considers this behaviour completely acceptable. Don't leave valuables in the lockers. And do not expect any assistance from head office they gaslight and will not intervene.

My daughter joined on a 1 month cancellation notice and used the gym thrice and has been trying to cancel for the last 7 months. Called phone numbers, visited the gym, sent emails but direct debit still being charged and everyone passing the buck to someone else, new email address, new phone number and not getting anywhere

Great classes. Facilities need investment.

This review is for the Poole Everlast Gym at Redlands.
I agree with the majority of the reviews here. This gym needs financial investment & a scheduled, frequent deep clean, particularly in the shower areas. Last week a wriggling worm appeared from a crack at the base of the shower wall while I was showering! Lifting & cleaning out the floor grates needs to happen regularly. The corroded metal handrail in the ladies shower needs replacing, along with several of the corroded showers that require you to keep your hand pressed firmly on the mechanism in order to work. Many of the tiny tiles in the pool floor are missing so it’s easy to get your toes caught during fitness classes.
However, as a community gym the desk staff are generally friendly & the fitness class instructors for the classes I enjoy are A1, which makes my membership worthwhile.

Was OK before Everlast

Our local gym Roko was taken over by Everlast a year or so ago.
We were promised lots of wonderful improvements.
What’s actually happened is: all exercise classes cancelled for at least seven weeks and the gym shut for 5 weeks while the building is refurbished.
As compensation, they say they won’t take February’s direct debit payment. They say we’re not allowed to simply cancel.
When it reopens, there will be equipment for new stuff like Reformer Pilates, for which they’ll charge more. The space and time available for the exercise classes we joined for - yoga, stretch, spin, weights, ordinary pilates etc - will be reduced. Subscriptions will be raised.
In exchange we’re getting loads of emails saying how wonderful the refurbishment is.
Oops, you’re not meant to call it a ‘Refurbishment’. They call it an ‘Elevation’.

Black mould in showers.

King's Lynn gym/pool in Norfolk has absolutely terribly dirty showers....especially the ceilings are covered in mould, black mould spores...surely this is not just unhygienic but mould spores are dangerous to breath and to health. The showers themselves are black from mould in corners and filthy. I have reported this but very little gets done. Sauna and steam are just as dirty, when you touch anything it feels slimy with bacteria and filth. I have asked the pool attendant to clean the steam room last week but again this does not get done. I have witnessed pool edges being cleaned, with thre attendant in the pool scrubbing the sides with some kind of chemical while people swum in the pool with all the dirt being left to float and to dissolve in the pool. The changing rooms are not much better with dirty toilets, sinks and changing areas.

Lack of Compassion and Poor Customer…

Everlast THURROCK -Lack of Compassion and Poor Customer Care at

On Wednesday 14th January, at around 1:30pm, I was working out at Everlast Thurrock. After finishing my workout, I went into the changing room to put my belongings away before heading to the sauna. At this point, I began experiencing vertigo and felt dizzy and extremely dehydrated, having realised I had left my water bottle behind.

Concerned for my wellbeing, I went to reception and politely asked if I could have a paper cup with some filtered water. This was not a demand—simply a request for water as I was feeling unwell. The receptionist, Ola, immediately refused. I explained that I was dizzy and genuinely needed water, but despite this, she repeatedly said no, showing no empathy or concern whatsoever.

For clarity, yes, there is a water fountain in the gym, however it is designed in the form of open taps. I did not feel it was appropriate or hygienic to put my mouth directly underneath a public tap, especially while feeling unwell. This was something I also explained at reception.

During the interaction, I asked Ola, “What would you do if I fainted, or if I were pregnant and needed water?” Her response—delivered with a completely straight face—was, “That would be a different story.” I was left completely confused and disturbed by this comment. What does that even mean? Does someone need to collapse, be visibly unwell, or meet certain criteria before basic compassion is shown?

Her manner throughout was cold, rude, and dismissive. I was genuinely shocked, particularly in a fitness environment where health and wellbeing should be a priority. To be clear, I did not ask for plastic cups used for protein shakes—I specifically asked for a paper cup, yet this made no difference.

Feeling the situation was unjust, I asked to speak to a manager. Unfortunately, the manager, Brook, was no better. He was equally unempathetic and dismissive. As a manager, I would have expected far more professionalism and understanding. His explanation was that they “count their cups” and are “very strict,” even when it comes to paper cups. I honestly could not believe what I was hearing.

This experience has completely put me off returning. It raises serious questions about Everlast’s values as a fitness company. What does Everlast stand for if a member feeling unwell cannot be given something as basic as water?

I will be taking this complaint further. The lack of compassion and basic human decency shown by both staff members was horrifying and unacceptable.

The sauna at Everlast Gym in Poole has…

The sauna at Everlast Gym in Poole has not been working for two weeks now(19/01/2026) and this is not the first time. Last year(2024/2025), during the busiest winter period, the sauna was out of order for months. It feels like the sauna is turned on and off periodically for some reason, but members are never given clear information.

Every time we ask, staff simply repeat that they “don’t know when it will be fixed.” After weeks and even months, this excuse is not acceptable. It looks like no real effort is being made to repair it as soon as possible.

The sauna is a very important part of the gym experience, especially in winter. Many members pay specifically for this facility. Despite not being able to use the sauna for long periods, there are no discounts, compensation, or alternatives offered to customers.

Since the gym does not lose money when the sauna is broken, there seems to be no urgency to fix it. This is disappointing and shows a lack of respect for paying members.

Don't waste your money.

I've been a member here for over 12 years, since it was DW. Since Everlast took over, it has declined significantly. Today I counted 9 pieces of equipment that were broken and could not be used. Other equipment has ripped seats, is badly maintained or as old as the arc. There has not been a new piece of equipment bought in the entire time I have been a member here. The men's changing rooms are disgraceful, dirty, unhygienic and they've had a broken dryer for over 6 months. All this for £34 a month. I'd advise anybody to avoid this place like the plauge. The staff used to be knowledable, friendly and helpful, now it's run by kids on their phones.

The refurb is great, (some) PTs are a problem

The refurb is great but unfortunately some of the PTs are still more of a hindrance than a help. There is a handful of them (those who spend their time shouting at each other across the gym) who seem to think they own the place and expect members to move off equipment because they want to use it. This used to be a really friendly gym but over the last 2-3 years there has been an influx of PTs who seem to want to create a clique and it really is spoiling the place. I feel sorry for the couple of PTs who are actually considerate to the members and work quietly with their clients rather than spending their time drawing attention to themselves - get rid of the others and find more like these and we'll have a much happier gym space.

Everlast Southport, Tulketh Street.

The recent refurbishment has massively improved this gym. I’d been a few times before it had been done and I never got the feeling of wanting to train here. Gave it another go afterwards and I’m glad I did! The equipment is excellent (although a few more pieces would never hurt), the atmosphere and music are really good, I often don’t wear headphones because the place just gets me in the mood, especially the low level lighting, I love that. So far as well, I’ve never seen it completely rammed, maybe I’ve just been lucky. The staff as well, all really friendly and super helpful. The reason I’ve only given 4*’s and not 5 is simply because it lacks a couple of bits of extra equipment and there’s no heat rooms. Not sure much can be done about that now but obviously a sauna, steam room, plunge pool etc would make this place more competitive with other gyms. I can’t complain too much though, my membership is £27 a month with a blue light discount which also gets you 10% off merchandise and refreshments. Good that it has a snack bar/coffee shop and free parking too is a bonus. Overall, very good, I’ve been a happy member for almost a year now.

Still going back forth with the manger

Still going back forth with the manger, having spoken to the customer service team for months. They signed me up to the WRONG contract, and now won’t let me out of it. I suffered a second trimester miscarriage while a member and therefore my head wasn’t in the right place to be checking emails to make sure the staff had done their job. After some back and forth they have allowed my friend out of her contact without any further payment but have refused me. Even though we both had a tour together and signed up together.

This gym is great - friendly & chill 😎

Love this gym. Have a lovely long sesh of stretches & using machines on a Sunday. Everyone's chill. Get a quick cool-down in the pool - lots of kids Sunday but still room for me to do lengths. Looking forward to my pre-work early morning work-outs this week. Special mention to the ever-diligent Shanita, getting the shower-grills up & giving them a proper scrub! She's a blooming hero for all the cleaning she does - I love this gym, it's MY gym, because the staff & facilities work well.
