Hotel Elsa in Skopje, and Expedia Customer service: 1* each
Booked hotel Elsa in Skopje for three nights, with, apparently, free parking and breakfast included. The room was supposed to be for two people, the hotel was supposed to be 3.5*. But ...
When it came to the check-in the guy knew nothing about free parking and the breakfast. Even worse, the room turned out to have a single 'window' looking into ventilation shaft, full of pigeons and pigeon excrement (imagine the smell). So we paid extra 20 quid a night to upgrade. Phoned Expedia from the hotel, and was then told to submit re-imbursement request.
The hotel does not have a working restaurant, the hotel does not have parking, the hotel overcharges for parking in a public garage, the hotel is atm 2* hotel. Sent the proof of additional expenses and after endless back and forth emails was told that 'the hotel refused the request'. Worse than a joke - I phoned from the hotel because they refused to honour what I believed I had included (with hindsight, it could have been one-cash rewards hallucinations!).
I have found customer service absolutely useless, dealing every time with a different person who could not even be bothered to check the message trail. And unwilling to take any responsibility for what they sell!
Good luck with getting a refund
I cancelled my booking within the free 12 hour window as circumstances changed. I have in writing that my refund would be processed in 7 - 10 days. 10 working days went, no sign of the refund. Recontacted Expedia to be told it can take a whole billing cycle to appear back in my credit card. Guess what . .the billing cycle went (30 days+), no money. Contacted them again to be told to wait 2 billing cycles! I said no, I want to raise a complaint. Escalated to another person who told me I wasn't entitled to a refund. I said no. I am. I have screen shots and proof of the cancellation in the correct time frame. That person then said they were waiting for refund from the airline. Again no. My contract is with you. It will be apparently processed in another 7 to 10 days which will be almost 7 weeks from when I cancelled. Holding onto money that is mine and hiding behind the airline. Shoddy business tactics. Bordering on fraud and theft. Will be taking them to small claims.
Expedia Customer Service
I booked flights to Dubai just before the Iran War started. BA then cancelled my original flight and put me on a night flight. As the situation was still fresh and moving, I call Expedia to confirm whether the new flight was likely to go ahead. They called BA and BA supposedly told Expedia that even that flight had been cancelled and that I would receive a refund for the flight. However my hotel was anon-cancellable booking. I since found out the the alternative flight had not been cancelled and that Expedia requested my cancellation. It was too late to rebook. I therefore went to Expedia to ask that they refund me the hotel due to it being an error on their part and they have also refused to admit that it was their agent that cancelled the booking saying that I cancelled the booking therefore any losses incurred are my fault.
Hotel was really nice …
Hotel was really nice food was really good staff were good but need to speak English.
Horrible experience hidden fees from Expedia.
I booked a package and there was £644.56 as fees and taxes, no clue what it was, no info on the website. I called Expedia on the phone and the lady she had nothing to say, she didn't answer my questions about these charges, she was reapeting they are charges and fees from the hotel and the flights. So then she excalated to another team. They emailed me explaining that was the charges and the fees, again. I contacted the hotel and they assured me that they never authorised the 3rd companies to apply fees to the customers. I emailed Expedia again for 2 days requesting the breakdown of my payment including every charges and the explanation of what it was.
I have been charged for £2114.87, I paid already £1874.55. The package cost(hotel and return flight) for £1229.99, then Taxes and fees for £644.56 which I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. Then the resort fees £206.82 and £33.50 for total £240.32 payable at the hotel, which is not even the right cost. I asked to explain to me what charge was £644.56. Also the colleague at the phone mentioned charge of £925.26(hotel fees) and £949.29(flights fees), again I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. The flights fee £949.29 which is even more the actual flights costs, ridiculous. They kept saying that it was the resort fees, but I said that it wasn't possible. So at the end on the second day of emails one lady admitted that the charges were Expedia charges. So it's not enough that you pay a package over £2k, they steal money from you as well without let you know, they summarised all the fees in one amount £644.56, vague and without explanation. No transparency no honesty, just took the money. If it was written what fees were, I wasn't booking with Expedia at all. The flight total amount was £447 and the taxes were £502.29???? The taxes were more than the flight price, it's ridiculous. I could book with £502.29 another flight with another company.
This was my first time with Expedia and will be the last one. They catch the customers with good fares but then they add hidden fees without expanation and they lie saying that the fees are the hotel fees, which it's not true. They could just say before booking, those are Expedia charges for using the service, but instead they lied and they make a ridiculous amount of fees. I don't know why the Airline charged so much more than the flights costs, Expedia said they have to contact me but no one did yet. Do not use Expedia, you think you are saving money but you ending up paying even more. I also made a complaint over the phone for this matter and the lady asked me how much compensation I wanted, as I have been for 2 days over the phone and writing emails I said that this caused me distress and I wanted £142, the lady should have resolve the complaint with me over the phone but instead she hang up saying that she had to speak to someone else, and after 2 minutes instead of call me she sent an email saying that the complaint was rejected. They don't even look at my complaint. Horrible customer service, the staff is unprofessional, they are lier.
Enjoy my £142 but that's it from me because you won't see me anymore.
Absolute joke of a company I was trying…
Absolute joke of a company I was trying to change my contact number no way of doing this in your account lol , I thought ill reach out to the company and request someone to update my number only to be told some rubbish about policy they aren't allowed to do it well my question is who is and why cant the account holder change said details on their own account absolutely unacceptable needless to to say the Expedia account will now be closed as its the wrong details and im not able to update them Absolute useless company won't be using them again !!!
Very poor customer service for a simple refund
I had an extremely frustrating experience trying to cancel a fully refundable flight with Expedia (Itinerary no: 73409146424006).
What should have been a simple, self-service process turned into multiple failed attempts and long wait times. On 26th April, I spent over 10 minutes on a call with an agent, only to be disconnected before the issue was resolved.
Today, after three separate attempts to get through, I was finally connected to an agent—but then had to remain on the phone for 42 minutes and 22 seconds just to cancel the booking.
For a fully refundable ticket, this level of friction is completely unacceptable. It’s not only frustrating for customers, but also highly inefficient for Expedia. A basic function like cancellation should be seamless and easily handled online without requiring lengthy calls.
Overall, a disappointing experience that has made me reconsider using Expedia in the future.
Split payment process was a nightmare…
Split payment process was a nightmare resulting in 1) multiple pending payments maxing out my cc 2) cancelled flights that are still charged and having to claim via chargeback 3) Expedia claiming they had no record of a re-tried transaction ( where flights were confirmed) until today when they state call a generic number for support. I have already spent hours on the phone at this point asking for support. Lost all faith. Had to book flights and hotel later than I wanted at extra cost. Pretty stressful couple of days wondering if I was going to be charged 5k for nothing!

Awful company- just have a look at the reviews on here and on the ‘Expedia victims’ page on Facebook.
Expedia left me stranded in another country with no way to return home after the return portion of my return flights were cancelled. Spent hours on the line contacting support- only to have to repeat the same details and story to multiple call handlers, none of whom could resolve the issue.
I eventually booked a flight at my own extra cost to get home,
Expedia refunded me eventually a measly amount. They claimed they couldn’t get in touch with the airline so had just ‘calculated’ what they thought the return fare portion should cost, much less than what I should have received.
Utterly incompetent, fraudulent and frankly criminal in their approach. DO NOT BOOK ANYTHING THROUGH EXPEDIA
Just trying to change/upgrade room
Just trying to change/upgrade room ( and pay) was ultimately banging one's head against the undoubtedly cheap (and useless) contents of some far flung call centre. 3 emails received in one day, all inconsistent with the others, and the Hotel won't deal with me directly. RipOff. Do not use Expedia or Sub- Brands
Dishonest lying scumbags.
Dishonest lying scumbags.
Flight was cancelled by British Airways due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. BA cancelled and refunded on 13th March, notified by email. A month later (13th April) and no sign of my refund or even a confirmation from Expedia. Virtual chat assistant said it would take a few more weeks due to the "billing cycle". Fast forward to 1st May, still nothing. Virtual chat attempted to give me another run around saying it has been processed and would take another 10-15 business days. Asked for confirmation of this in an email, they refused. I then mentioned potentially taking legal action / Small claims court as still not satisfied. Escalated to a supervisor. After 20 minutes received an email saying the refund was processed (1st May). So they lied twice about it being processed previously. Now have to wait 10-15 business days for the bank to process it.
I will NEVER use them again. An absolute abhorrent company.
DO NOT USE
DO NOT USE. Complete con artists. They cancelled a flight booking weeks away from flying and simply will not refund me. I’ve had to go elsewhere at extra cost. There customer service is the hardest to reach and try their best to make life as difficult as possible. Avoid these like the plague
Avoid at all cost this is the worst…
Avoid at all cost this is the worst travel company in the world. Pathetic people and pathetic so called company. RIP off Britain famous at last
Scammers
I attempted to book a holiday package to Corfu via your website on the dates listed above. In both instances, Expedia failed to confirm the booking, yet funds were deducted from my credit card and passed to EasyJet.
During multiple phone calls, your representatives assured me that refunds would be processed within 3 to 5 working days. I was also advised to attempt the booking a second time, which resulted in a duplicate unauthorized charge. It has now been over 15 days since the first transaction and 10 working days since the second, but no refunds have been received.
EasyJet has stated they cannot assist as the booking was made through a third party, and my credit card provider has advised that this must be resolved directly with you. The lack of resolution and the significant amount of money currently withheld has caused me great distress and prevented me from booking my family holiday.
I will avoid this company at all cost
I wish I can give less than one star
Never ever go with Expedia, Booking.com is better
Extremely disappointed with Expedia. I booked a round-trip flight and had to cancel, but a month later, I’m still waiting for my refund. To make matters worse, customer service disconnected my calls twice after 'checking' my details, only to eventually claim they 'no longer have access to the file.' Save yourself the headache and use Booking.com instead—my friend got a refund there in 7 days, while I’m still being ghosted after 30+ days. Avoid at all costs."
This is my booking ref: 73349890956864
I booked a hotel easily through Expedia…
I booked a hotel easily through Expedia and made the rash decision to pay upfront rather than buy now pay later. My travel plans changed and I then had to cancel within the cancellation period. The refund was processed immediately and funds back in my account 3 days later. The negative reviews are overwhelming and can't be dismissed but there must be many others like me who haven't had any issues dealing with Expedia. I eventually had to rebook but booked directly with the hotel as it was cheaper than any third party app.
I had to cancel flights to Berlin…
I had to cancel flights to Berlin due to ill health booked through Expedia. BA issued a refund back to Expedia 3 weeks ago, but Expedia did not issue it to me. I was then on their 'customer service' chat for 1hour 20min trying to get MY money back. I had to prove to them that BA had issued the refund to then They would not let me speak to someone. They lied to me about the refund and the whole experience was incredibly frustrating. When you're on a chat thing like that you cant do anything else. And the people in either India or the Philippines don't speak English! They eventually realised I was right No apology. It was a terrible service. I book through Expedia all the time but I will never now book flights with them. I thought it was easier, but it was much, much harder then things go wrong. I see other people have had a similar experience with refunds. Expedia are only ok if things go OK. They operate illegally, yes illegally, when things go wrong. It is illegal to not pass that money on to customers.
Terrible
Terrible - I tried to book a package holiday using a discount code on Expedia. The payment kept showing as “pending” on my credit card, but the Expedia website said the payment had failed. Their support told me to clear my cache, cookies, and history and try again. After several attempts, I now have over £5,000 in pending charges on my credit card from Expedia.
They’re now claiming the issue was due to “insufficient funds” and insisting it’s not their fault, even though the problem only happened on their site. Getting help was incredibly frustrating — I had to go through an automated phone system, then an AI chat, and finally a very slow support agent from India.
Expedia have been a nightmare when…
Expedia have been a nightmare when changing my booking, I have been provided with conflicting information from different advisors. In total I have had to contact them around 20 times over a 2 week period to finally change the booking by 7 days, including contacting management and then just having to contact the hotel I am staying at directly (who confirmed Expedia had not been in touch to request the date change) even though several Expedia agents had said they had emailed them. The call centre conversations consisted of staff who could not understand what I was trying to say to them and I did not feel listened to at all. I would avoid booking through Expedia if there is any chance you may want to change your booking before departure!
