Borderline fraudulent billing practices

So, apparently my Spot tracker service got renewed each year for over 6 years (my mistake that I didn't check my credit card bills more thoroughly). I am certain that I tried to cancel the service back in 2014 after using it for a very narrowly defined purpose. No notification via mail, almost impossible to cancel now. I will blacklist them with my CC company and suggest to my outdoor shop to at least warn people when selling that product.

Provided you have an hour on your hands you can cancel

Well I have finally managed to obtain a cancellation number. It took 25 minutes for a lady to answer the phone, she wanted my ESN, my account number, my address, my phone number, my email address, and I guess you could throw in my blood group and DNA as well! After going through all that she said that she could not cancel it, I would now be put through to customer service (did I say SERVICE???). After another 10 minutes my call was answered by someone with a very slurred voice who explained that the had been having some bad feed back and offered to lower the cost down to circa $140 from $260!!! I told him that I wanted to cancel because I do not stay with rip of merchants! After 12 years they have lost a customer who would have paid $140 but as they tried to rip me off I would rather go with Garmin even if they charge more. Spot leaves a very bad taste in your mouth! I am going to do a You Tube video of my disgust by destroying my Gen 3 Spot with a sledge hammer!!! Lets hope I can at least lose Spot a few customers along with all of the other people who think likewise!!!!!!

What a bunch of conniving charlatans and thieves!!

What a bunch of thieves!!! I have been a loyal customer since 2008!!! The service then was very affordable around $99. Now they are increasing subscriptions by an extraordinary amount. I guess they hope by making it very difficult to cancel you will just go away. I was told on the day the contract was due for renewal $260.92 without any prior knowledge and the chance to cancel. I am going to take this up with Visa, as I said they are a bunch of thieves with absolutely no scruples. How many other companies do you deal with that jack the price $99 then $164 now $225 that's an increase of over 100% in three years! Lets hope that Covid 19 breaks them!

How they think they are going to keep customers by being a bunch of scammers heaven knows, they have lost me and my 12 year patronage!

It is so far impossible to cancel

It is so far impossible to cancel. No way to cancel online. On hold now for a very long time , one person answered, then transferred me to someone, and it took a very long time on the phone.

I've subbed for years and found…

I've subbed for years and found communicating with them over renewals to be slow and unreliable - pretty amazing for people in the life and death business.
Just now I've asked them *three* times what my options are to suspend for a year and they answer a different question.
They offered a discount once again, which I appreciate, but with financial difficulties and not being able to travel, I have a decision to make and can't get the information to make it.

Hi an update from Spot renewal

Hi an update from Spot. I called to cancel my subscription of over £220 per year. Firstly customer service said the could reduce this to around £145 per year. I informed them still too expensive, they then said it could be done for £99 per year. It's well worth calling.

Auto-billing for years after I ended service.

I just realized Spot has been billing me for service the last 4 years after I canceled. I just received an email saying they were auto renewing my service. I never authorized that and when I tried to stop the billing by email, they wouldn't do it. My wife called them to cancel and they wouldn't do it without me on the phone. When I called they wanted my account number (which I don't have now for years since I thought my account was closed. After speaking to a supervisor I was able to close the account but they refused to refund my money. I feel scammed.

The concept of a Spot device is great, but....

The concept of a Spot device is great. People know where you are, you can send messages and get help if needed. There are several choices available in addition to Spot. I would strongly recommend InReach. From my personal experience there are several reasons.
1. Better messaging
2. Better pricing packages
3. No "ambush" auto renewal billing
4. Better and much more responsive customer service
5. Better user experience (ease of use, set up, reliability).

Very disonest company

Very disonest company, once you subscribe good luck cancelling it. There's no way to do it via their website, you have to call l. I ended up having to cancel my credit card.

Get Garmin inreach better customer experience and better hardware.

A danger to life and a complete waste of money.

A danger to life and a complete waste of money. I count my lucky stars that I didn’t actually need this in an emergency.

I bought the tracker and subscribed to the service for a trip to East Africa. Having set up the device, entered all the data and got underway, nobody heard from me; The set up had failed to save. After several more attempts at set up a family member eventually received my location. However, after this minor success the Device rarely worked, and eventually I just gave up.

Support from Find me Spot is non existent.

I now have all the fun of trying to cancel my subscription. This is impossible from the website and I have to call the US. As a European user this is a massive ball-ache. It’s 2020. This is not okay.

These are however minor grievances. This company is taking your money whilst promoting a potentially life saving device. This is a scam. I do not believe that this company cares about providing any service at all, and I seriously doubt that had I ended up in need of it that it would have worked.

In summary; If you’ve no regard for your life, have money to waste and don’t care for the quality of the product or service you’re paying for, then this might be the product for you. But if your life depends upon it..? spend your money elsewhere.

Rip-off

Extremely upset with the exponential increase in the same service which was $99.00 in 2017, then $164.00 in 2018 before jumping to $225.00 in 2019!! I think this is a complete rip-off and intentionally misleading customers. I cancelled my subscription and will find another provider.

I purchased my spot tracker in 2015…

I purchased my spot tracker in 2015 used it for 2 years and then canceled service. today I get an email saying renewal is set for 12/24/19 I luckily still have the same computer and can log into my account to find they have been billing me ever since day one even after it was canceled to the theft of $405.59 from me , they said the account was not closed. so beware of this bunch the tracker worked fine as when I was using it but they will not accept email to cancel service, only by phone so you have no record of it.

FindmeSpot has Spotty service

I read the top 10 bad reviews and have to agree with most of what they said. I have not had the billing experiences yet, but I have had the bad service issue. I just got back from 28 days in Europe and all of the spots that I sent in Paris, Barcelona, Ibiza, Formentera, Casablanca and Marrakesh never showed up or were received by my recipients I just called them today and asked the question "If it cannot handle a simple check in message how am I supposed to have confidence that it will send out an SOS if I was really in trouble?" The gentlemen didn't answer until I asked to speak to someone that could answer my question. Then he assured me that SOS messages take precedence. That must be one smart satellite to be able to tell the difference. In the end he offered $50 off next years bad service.Run from this company.

Fraudulent billing and virtually impossible to cancel

Fraudulent billing policy! Basic subscription plan started at 100 euros per year, billed to a credit card (so you're unaware that there's a Direct Debit in place) then without your consent, auto-renews at 239 euros pa without any communication or notification.
There is no way to cancel the service plan on their website. All contact forms lead to a phone number in Ireland, which takes 20 minutes to respond. Then the american operator offered me a $60 discounts as an incentive not to cancel.
I don't trust that they have cancelled my subscription and will be cancelling my credit card just to be sure.
