Having been registered with what was corgi and then continuously registered with gas safe for around 20 years and having a probationary inspection back years ago and inspections in between. I changed my address and am now being told that i have to have a mandatory probationary check . Why is this?
The Gas Safe register are as useless to the public as they appear to be to their engineers. I have a certificate which is incorrect as it lists an incorrect boiler. I have tried for over a year to get the engineer who fitted the boiler to correct this but he has ignored my requests. So on 25th August I contacted the register and raised a complaint. The first response was that they sent me another certificate with once again the incorrect boiler listed. I then got a phone call to arrange an inspection which is not what I requested. I call them regularly and am promised a return phone call but nobody calls back. It is now nearly 2 months since I raised this issue and still no correct certificate. They keep promising to escalate this to an inspector who should contact the engineer and tell him to raise another certificate but nothing ever happens. THEY ARE USLESS!!!
Update 14/10/2022. Got a call from a team leader this morning to say she had issued a replacement certificate and was I happy for my case to be closed. I said not until I had received and checked the certificate. So she emailed a pdf and surprise surprise the date of installation was wrong. AND SO IT DRAGS ON AND ON AND ON!!!
93 % negative rating really says it all. Had video footage of dodgy builder moving boiler and admitting that he was not Gas Safe registered, whilst employing a Gas Safe engineer to issue a dubious Gas Safety certificate. Gas Safe were'nt eager to have me report it or investigate it considering this is a risk to public safety this organisation seems to be more interested in protecting the interests of its members that the safety of the general public.
Update: Over a year since I made my report Gas Safe are telling me they not allowed to tell me the outcome of their investigation if any ! It transpires that the government have contracted the Gas Safe role to Capita a private which explains the 93% negative reviews.
Gas Safe Register visited my property and Engineer Nick Dawkins was excellent in identifying all issues that needed rectifying.Punctual and very polite and patient, explaining everything in detail.10/10
More nonsense from Gas Safe Register. They are currently supposedly working with Kindred Agency asking people to share their experience of gas related incidents with the press. I forwarded my story to the kindred agency email address and they just forwarded it onto Gas Safe Register where I got a reply containing most of the same drivel as before, full of excuses as to why they haven’t actually done anything material.
What way is this to react:
1. Refusing to look at photographic and video evidence of gas work done to a poor standard and potentially lethal.
2. Just taking the businesses word for it that steps have been put in place to make sure that ‘it doesn’t happen again’
3. Passing you back to the organisation that did the work if you’ve any further complaints.
So yet again what is the point of Gas Safe Register?.
This was their reply regarding a leak Cadent left behind that nearly blew our home to bits:
I am writing further to your email of 12th August, below, which was passed to me. I note I had no direct response from you to my email of 24th June 2022, but I will attempt to clarify the situation.
When a RIDDOR is raised, and passed to HSE, in instances where the gas work in question relates to a registered business, Gas Safe Register (GSR) will be instructed by HSE to investigate this. As I am sure you will appreciate, in the vast majority of these cases, the issue that has resulted in a RIDDOR needing to be raised, will have been corrected prior to any involvement on GSR’s part. Clearly, we cannot comment on a situation that we have not been able to inspect but what is agreed with HSE, is a process that must be followed.
This requires us to contact the registered business identified as being responsible for the gas work in question and ask them for a full report into the incident, this includes the specific actions they’ve taken in regards to the engineer responsible as well as their comment on how the situation arouse and more broadly what steps they as a business are taking to ensure there is no risk of a repeat.
It is important that the business has the opportunity to clarify the situation, as there can be instances where the RIDDOR is ever inaccurate, or where other circumstances have impacted the situation, this could be that the issue is caused by a defective part and not the actual gas work carried out etc…
In your case, of course, this was not the case and the business have provided a full and through response to our request. We are satisfied that they have taken appropriate steps and that these will mitigate any risk of a future issue.
However, what I will also clarify is that GSR takes matters of gas safety very seriously and applied our own proportionate actions via our sanctions policy at the time our investigation was completed.
I do appreciate your concerns and understand the worry a situation like this can cause. However, GSR has acted appropriately and followed our agreed policies and processes throughout. If you remain concerned about the situation you found yourself you should direct these concerns to Cadent, I am afraid GSR cannot assist in any dispute between third parties.
If you do have gas work carried out in the future and have any concerns, please let us know and we can carry out an inspection to ensure all work has been completed competently and safely.
Kind regards,
Alistair Pearson
Reassured by what they do?. Do I feel safe with the gas work present in my Home?. Do I have the confidence to trust another engineer with this sort of response?.
NO on all counts, and in all honesty I believe this organisation should be wound up. It’s not up to scratch in taking meaningful action.
If Gas Safe isn't interested, who do we go to? I reported a gas leak as a result of faulty gas pipework to Gas Safe who essentially have done nothing about investigating.
A significant amount of gas leak was detected (by a Gas Safe engineer who came to have a look initially and to shut down the gas supply).
On subsequent repair of the pipe it was discovered that the leak had resulted due to human error whereby box work around the pipe had used a long screw, piecing the gas pipe and causing a 'big drop' (meaning a lot of gas was emanating which could have blown me and this building to high heaven) when the pipework was installed during the conversion of this building in 2017. The gas work had been signed off regardless, indicating the gas work had NOT been tested prior to sign off.
Gas Safe have since told me that because I had the pipework repaired, there's now nothing they can do! Unbelievable. I told them I have photos, the piece of pierced pipe in question and a report from the gas engineer who fixed it.
As a fellow reviewer has pointed out, faulty gas pipes led to the terrifying explosion in Birmingham recently which resulted in loss of life.
How many more explosions before Gas Safe sit up and actually do something?

I have emailed customer service not one response from them and have called several times ai have been told someone will call me back no one has once returned my call regarding a defect which was suppose to been corrected by the business even though GasSafe have given them 2 deadlines which have passed and the business has failed to act upon. I was told when I last called customer service if the business does not correct the work they will lose their registration with GasSafe however, that has not happened nor have they returned any of my calls to keep me updated.
After no help from GasSafe customer service I emailed Jonathan Samuel CEO of GasSafe and I heard nothing back from him too. Goes to show the example which is set to staff as no one has bothered calling me back nor did the CEO reply to my email.
Don’t waste your time with GasSafe they do nothing in favour of customers even though they have found defects in a boiler installation. What is the point of GasSafe having registration terms with businesses who clearly do not act upon your request when faults are found and secondly you do nothing to prevent this from happening again with other customers…What will it take for you to cancel the companies registration? As they have clearly failed to correct the defect twice now.

The gas Safe register is useless and does not support gas engineers , poor contact and knowledge and are a useless entity.
Call them for information they know nothing,. But they jump on engineers if a customer complains,. They do nothing for our industry even after all the years people still don't call Gas.safe.for engineers.
My builder an ls rated People have more web presence sadly .
Expensive for engineers and we get nothing would sack the lot of them.
Heating engineer can’t renew on line or by phone your services is no longer a service
Absolutely shocking there’s going to be thousands of unregistered installers having to work unregistered now this must be a legal matter???
A Gas Safe Register inspector came to my house to check the gas installation issues and produced a report stating there are 7 defects and requested the installer to rectify them by 25th of March.
On 25th of March, I emailed this inspector reminding him there are 5 defects still not completed----He did not reply me.
On 1st of April, after the deadline has passed one week, I reminded this inspector again that the installer still had not come back to correct those 5 defects---again, no response.
But on 7th of April, this inspector sent me an email saying: "I am however satisfied, Gas Safe Register will not pursue this case further and this case will now be closed."
After sending this email on 07 April 2022 17:31, I replied him at once but received an auto-reply email saying he will be on holiday straight away for two weeks! Obviously, he deliberately sent his last email to me and set auto reply immediately!
He did not even give me any time to discuss this matter!
It seems I sent him two emails reminding him the installer still not come back to rectify those 5 defects were totally neglected! According to Gas Safe's statement, Gas Safe inspector should come back to check further: "We may carry out further investigative inspection activities with the registered business to ensure they meet the Rules of Registration, further action may be taken in accordance with the Sanctions Policy."
But this inspector totally ignored my reminders twice, just after he received the signed defect notice from the registered business then he closed this matter?!
Out of 7 defects on the report, the installer only did two which are easiest pipe lagging only, the rest 5 are more important which are boiler not working correctly, frost stat wired wrongly, radiators half hot/half cold etc. All those 5 bigger issues are not re-checked, how could this inspector say this matter has been closed?!
I am very disappointed that the inspector ignored my email reminders twice, and only just listened to the installer and closed this matter without checking with me or come onsite to check it himself.
How could Gas Safe acted like this?! Customers rely on Gas Safe Register to regulate the gas safety and ensure the registered business to follow the regulation, if not, GSR should take action to make them follow. But if GSR's inspector closes a matter that is still outstanding, then no registered business will be serious about their works to customers, as they know GSR will be not serious to them!

As with so many others, unable to contact Gas Safe regarding renewal. This can only encourage illegal working, the opposite of what Gas Safe should stand for.
Really poor when trying to notify gas work. Find boilers I have notified don't go through, or are duplicates or issues when filling in information. Doesn't separate invoice if you do two or three at a time,so you don't really know what you have paid for.

as a gas safe engineer i have never experienced such bad service trying to renew my registration.GAS SAFE GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER
A COMPLETE SHOWER OF SH_T
I tried to renew my registration many times but could never get thru to them. Eventually I did get a renewal on the phone but when I was put thru to the payments dept it cut off.
Many emails later and I renewed again but now they want to charge a penalty for late renewal. More emails followed and now waiting a reply to my email of 16/03/22.
They’ve taken my registration money but because I won’t pay the penalty, I can’t legally work on gas.
My complaint has been passed to Team Leader for decision 14 days ago and still no reply
