Crazy New Deposit
Ive been using getaround since it started. The ridiculous $2000 deposit now required is just crazy for a $150 rental. And the time it takes after the reservation to get that money back is too long.

Marin Getaway
The car was easy to locate and park in the Mason Street garage. It was a bit difficult to locate where the gas cap was. I had to ask the gas station attendant for help. However, I would rent from this provider again.

The one where nothing went right
My account went missing or got deleted in their system changeover recently, so I had to get re-verified and pay a second verification fee. I was trying to book for an immediate trip, but instead was told I'd have to wait up to two hours for manual verification. Luckily the verification came through sooner so I was able to book a car--however after getting to the parking lot the car was supposed to be in, and searching for it for fifteen minutes, it turns out there had been an error and the car was not actually there or available. I then had to make a new reservation for a different car another fifteen minute walk away. The whole process meant I left an hour and a half later than planned. Finally, the app was very confusing when we returned the car and ended the reservation, and I kept getting a pop-up message that I hadn't finished the return, even though the trip was showing as ended in the app.

Quality of fleet in dire conditions
Quality of the cars continue to be inconsistent, and more often than not, tend to wind up with dirty cars that are not well maintained or are overdue on maintenance with check engine lights on, and many scrapes scratches and pre-existing damage to document. But, instead of focusing their attention on owners and these issues with their fleet (including owners not having their cars truly ready and available at the time of booking), they are laser focused on making the experience as onerous as possible for customers and seeking every opportunity to levy fines and automatically assume a customer is wrong before even asking questions or exhibiting the lightest bit of empathy or interest in loyalty and long term customer value. This is a broken company with ill guided morals and company policies and I can not recommend enough pouring other rental car options when available. Your wallet and sanity will thank you. Case in point, my last rental out of NJ was dirty, almost stalled out in traffic and red lights, and clearly hadn’t been maintained properly with more than 135k miles on the vehicle (and cost more than $69/day without all the fees on top of it).

Great service and easy to use
Getaround is a very useful service that provides a quick car for the week and weekend without having to hold on to the car when not in use. Especially in a city like San Francisco where parking is limited parking.

I want a full refund
I want a full refund. Sadly I cannot give more than 1 star. The 1 star is for the owner, who was responsive when I had concerns., however couldn’t do anything about them, deferring to customer service. I do believe he had good intentions. However, I’m not renting the owner, I’m renting a car. This was unfortunately the worst “rental” car I’ve ever driven in my life. There’s no way it’s worth more than $10 a day, TOPS. When I entered, the car reeked of stale body odor. I had to go to a drugstore and buy an air freshener just to tolerate it. When I communicated this, he apologized and said he didn’t have time between renters to clean it. (I thought that was part of the deal? To enter a CLEAN car?) There was trash on the floor. Interior was very sad and falling apart. Stains and rips throughout. I’m not sure what the “special features” were on this car since there was 1. No way to charge my phone as mentioned in the description 2. No backup camera (when I asked about this he said it was an “add on” and it wasn’t working (what’s the point of an add-on if it doesn’t work?) Okay, on to the way the car RAN. Well, alignment was TOTALLY off and the wheel was crooked. Brakes squeaked every time. No horsepower (okay, it was mentioned that this car didn’t have much power). Felt EVERY bump in the road and honestly was worried the car was going to fall apart. This car should not be on the market and especially not for what I paid. I was told by a friend I could’ve got something brand new from turo for 1/3 less than the price of this car. All kinds of noises came from the car, the expected “shaking” at stoplights that comes with old cars, and mind you it had 120k miles on it. Here’s the kicker. When I told the owner I was unsatisfied he offered to switch out the car which was very nice. However, I HAD to call customer service to make this happen. Last thing one wants to do on a vacation is call a customer service center. The rep at get around told me that the “period in which I could switch the car” has already expired. (I hadn’t even had the car for 20 hours, and 8 of those were sleeping). When I first drove it, I wasn’t sure of all the issues. The 2nd time I drove it, I felt unsafe and wanted a better option. So, because I didn’t want to go through the hassle of ending the rental and searching for a new one, I was stuck with this car and just made the best of it, keeping my driving to a minimum and being very careful (and praying honestly). I’m completely dissatisfied with getaround and will never use this service again. Seems like a good idea, if the car was satisfactory and the customer service policies catered more to the customer, the one PAYING for the service. Sorry, I tried. Never again.

Getaround is good for short term needs!
This was a seamless process with Getaround from start to finish. The prices are pretty reasonable compared to other rental services. I look forward to other rentals.

Originally booked a BMW got KIA and charged for fuel despite submitting pictures showing fuel at the same level
Originally booked a BMW. Ended up being switched to a KIA due to mechanical issue with the car. While that could be attributed to circumstances beyond their control, when I was doing the inspection the app said the fuel level was 45% when It was closest to slightly over a quarter of a tank. I corrected it on the app and submitted a picture and returned it with the same level and also submitted a picture. Discovered an email today that I was charged for extra fuel. There was no notification of this in the app. Zero stars if I could for the run around alone.

Privacy Protection? Car owner can see my home address and phone number
There is no privacy protection for renters' privacy. The car owner knows my home address and calls my cell phone directly??

Very easy and convenient but not that cheap.
Very easy to use and not that cheap ($62 for 2 hours) but clean car and quite simple process from taking pictures to unlocking the car and getting the fuel level checked auto. Fast booking and convenient.

dirty car, non responsive owner, key was not where it was supposed to be.
I couldn't find the key, I searched everwhere. I texted and called the owner.... not a single response. I finally found the key in a MOLDY TUPPERWARE container in the trunk of the car. The seats and floors and windshield were filthy, the car smelled. The sound system was so bad and rattled, I didn't even use the radio.

I really dislike that i can't start…
I really dislike that i can't start the inspection a couple of minutes prior to rental start time. It can take 5 minutes to complete and understand where everything is and connect your phone, etc. I'm not really getting my full rental time. I don't think I'm going to use this service because of this.

The Getaround app itself was fine
The Getaround app itself was fine, but the car was not in great condition so spent longer than expected documenting it with text and photos, and then were some slight other issues with the car such that took longer to deal with these things while using it, negatively impacting the experience.
