Time to replace the manager

Gibsons cafe has been my go-to for an English Breakfast for years now, but I won’t be returning after today’s experience unfortunately.

I have no idea why the woman who manages this cafe is in hospitality because quite frankly, you’d receive more customer service from a door knob. She’s as aggressive as she is rude. And I feel extremely sorry for the waitresses working there because you can tell she’s as rude and intimidating to them as she is the customers. You only have to look at the other reviews on here to see I’m not the only one to experience her attitude.

While I usually come for the breakfast, today it went completely wrong. Maybe because I turned up near the end of breakfast service and got served the old dregs that had been sitting under a heater for hours. But the sausage was so tough and over cooked I could barely cut into it, let alone chew it. Whereas the bacon was too undercooked. The flat white that turned up was a cup of warm milk, and having only had one sip I sent it back because it was nothing like a flat white.

I’m not someone that complains often, I hate to complain but I was very disappointed with the breakfast and the coffee. The waitress took the flat whites from the table and returned with new coffees, stating that they’d be removed from the bill. The new coffees were also a cup of milk but we just drank them because it was too awkward to complain again.

When we went to pay the coffee hadn’t been removed from the bill. And on questioning this the rude manager said that the coffees we didn’t drink had been taken off the bill (I should hope so), but we had to pay for the replacement. We’d assumed that as a courtesy for our awful experience we wouldn’t be paying for the coffees - as we’d been told. In saying this we were met with complete aggression from the manager who was adamant we had to pay for the replacement coffees.

Every-time I have been the Gibsons cafe this woman, and this woman only, has made the experience awkward and uncomfortable. She makes you feel like an inconvenience, she’s rude and blunt and quite frankly she’d be better off working as a prison warden with her attitude. When you go to pay at the counter it takes a few minutes to be acknowledged(despite you standing less than a meter away from her), while you wait to pay, leaving you wondering if you’ve even come to the right place to pay. It’s bizarre.

The farm shop has always been great, the florist is great, the produce is great. The cafe WAS great because of the food, but not anymore. I won’t be back again.

Rotten strawberries

Purchased strawberries to use the following day. Opened the pack it was full of mouldy strawberries. Didn’t even last 24hrs. Extremely disappointing! I do expect much more from a farm shop, especially when you consider the higher price they charge. I went to Gibsons for FRESH produce instead of Tesco. Wish I hadn’t have bothered. Overpriced and manky fruit is not what I want thanks. Not happy. Won’t be back to waste my hard earned cash! BUYERS BEWARE.

Be Careful Where You Sit!

Picture three numbered tables pushed together to form a six person table. The cafe was full, two people occupied one end and were eating, we were invited to join them. A male staff member rudely told us that we could not be served because the till recognised the table as a six person and could only issue one receipt.
It didn’t make sense but since there was no other place to sit we stayed until the two people finished their meal and left. We were then served with inferior service.
We did not make a fuss but the experience was bizarre.
We will not return!

The restaurant is to be avoided in the middle of the lovely shop
It took thirty minutes for poached eggs on toast. The eggs were cold when I told the waitress she shrugged and said she did not cook them. Overpriced bad service lets the shop down badly

Unpaid 4 hour trial shift

Applied for a position in the cafe and was asked to complete a 4 hour trial shift. I asked in advance beforehand whether it was paid or not and was told it would be. Only after completing the shift was I told it would only be paid if the job was offered and accepted. As I declined the job I was offered no compensation for the 4 hours I completed.

Very disappointed they couldn't manage to cook a fried egg properly. It was returned to the kitchen but the second one had a hair in it so was inedible. When this was pointed out the the staff at the till they didn't seem to care. I have tried contacting the management but had no reply .

I visited with a friend for lunch on the first Monday of half term. Oh my word, what has happened to this once great place to eat? I would say the cafe was less than half full, the menu, if you can call it that, is now just an A4 sheet of paper, 50% of which is drinks. No proper meals, only snacks which can be reheated on request - yuck, especially as my friends quiche looked pretty unappetising. Service is pretty dire as you have to ask for your order to be taken, if you can make eye contact with staff who happen to be in the room. It looked clean but there were ring marks on the tables. There are many excellent cafes in the area who I will be visiting instead. Gibsons really need to up their game to even begin to compete, if indeed they are interested in doing so

Brilliant Farm Shop and great quality

Brilliant find as we were driving through the countryside. The shop was full of lovely surprises and local products. The meat counter was well displayed and really enjoyed shopping here. We loved the taste of the local jams, strawberries and the local thick cream. We are planning our next trip to try out the cafe when it opens on the 5th. Thx for a great find

Carpark

Great food and lovely produce. But the carpark really needs sorting out massive great pot holes flooded with water. Your always busy use some of the money to get car park sorted!

Some local produce with nice food in the cafe

This Farm Shop is in Canterbury and it has a nice butchers inside with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Lots of local free range eggs but the local Kent cheese was a bit expensive at £6.07! They have a cafe just off the farm shop and the food was quite nice although my glass was dirty but that was easily put right. Nice place to go just off the A2.
