Loud music

I've always really liked Gorden Rigg Walsden and the most recent Improvements have really put the store amongst the best . However the one thing that spoils the experience for me is loud music quite blaring. Gardening is supposed a quite peaceful , natural mindful thing. I found it hard to concentrate. Something gentler to create a calm ambience would be better .

Just to mention a lady who works on customer care (I think she’s called Jackie) at Rochdale Gordon Riggs, thank you for your help and service, when I bought a wooden bench and a few other things. It shows how hard you work and a good asset to the company.
Very grateful
Maggie.

I ordered a piece of garden furniture…

I ordered a piece of garden furniture and in basket displayed courier costs if £50 which was paid. I then received an email advising that they would not post item out at charge of £50 and in fact wanted £110!! No option of honouring a ‘mistake’ as they said on their website and refunded instead. Terrible customer service and be aware of their website and ordering!

We are sorry to hear that you have a negative experience when purchasing a piece of garden furniture from us. Unfortunately we have had a glitch within our system which has caused the delivery charges on our website to become incorrect on larger items which is why a member of our staff asked you not to order the egg chair which you ordered until the issue was resolved when you contacted us via phone before placing the order. Our web developers are currently working to resolve this and we are hoping that this issue will be resolved within the next 24 hours. Unfortunately due to the size of the piece of furniture which you ordered, it can only be delivered on a pallet which costs us over £100 which is why we gave you the option of paying the correct delivery costs or a full refund. Here at Gordon Riggs we pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service and we are disappointed to hear that you feel we fell below these high standards.

Wow prices have shot up in the cafe!!!

So I can see and feel the prices have gone up in the cafe! £8.75 for a bacon sub??? Across the road (mill) which also belongs to Gordon Riggs £6.50!!! Ok, you don't get the spoonful of salad, but surely that's not worth the
extra £2.25? Cakes are cheaper
too in the mill! The scones are
also 3 different prices, in both cafes and the food shop, why? Why are some of the cakes pieces so small? No consistency :(

Got a reply from Gordon Riggs, which still doesn't address why the prices are so different for 2 cafes belonging to the same site! Cakes are the smallest I've had, in any garden centre! I don't mind paying if the item is worth paying for! Very disappointed with scripted answer I received. I've been visiting and spending here for years, I will now need too review that and will pass my experience onto friends and colleagues.

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately like every business in todays climate we have had to increase our prices slightly due to the increased cost of utilities, wages, rates etc. We do however regularly conduct market research and have found ourselves to be competitive when compared to other similar establishments. With regards to the different prices of the cakes we offer, it depends where the cakes are sourced from as our prices are determined by the price of our supplier as well as the different running costs of each eatery. As the food in the farm shop is a take away item and so does not incur the same costs as our café and tea room we are able to offer the scones at a lower price to what we charge in our café and tea room. With regards to the sizes of the cakes, this is determined by the supplier once again. Each cake we buy specifies the amount of pieces it is to be cut in to. I hope this clarifies everything for you. Thank you

We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the response you received. I did try to go through each of the points you raised to explain why our prices differ depending on whether you visit the tea room, café or farm shop as well as addressing the portion sizes of the cakes.

One reason for the difference in the price of the cakes between the café and tea room could be the supplier we buy our cakes from. Our tea room does use a different supplier for some items to what our café uses and if the cakes in the tea room cost us more then we of course have to charge more for them. Another reason is that our tea room incurs higher running costs and so this also is reflected in the prices.

With regards to the size of the cakes, we do buy in cakes which tell us the portions included per cake, I will however pass you feedback on to the café and tea room manager to look in to.

We appreciate your feedback and welcome the opportunity to improve wherever possible. We do hope that this has not deterred you from visiting us again in the future as we truly value each and every customer. Customer satisfaction is of the utmost importance. However, in order to be here serving our local community for another 79 years we must be sustainable as a business while remaining competitive.
