Unprofessional

My experience with this agency was extremely disappointing. I had arranged two viewings in Canada Water over the phone the day before and left work early to attend, but when I arrived I was told that no appointment had been booked.
The negotiator was rude and dismissive, and even doubted that I had called at all. I do have a call record showing a four-minute conversation with the agency, so it was frustrating to be blamed for an issue that was not mine.
The only person who treated me respectfully was the staff member I initially spoke to on the phone and physically at the agency. Overall, the experience felt disorganised and unprofessional, and the number of similar reviews suggests this may not be an isolated incident.

Misleading listings and wasted time

I viewed two properties with Hastings International that were advertised as available for sale, but it became clear afterwards that the sellers were not actually committed to selling. Despite the listings being on the market for months, the agency still arranged viewings knowing the sellers were prioritising rental income and had no real intention of progressing a sale.

This resulted in unnecessary time wasted and a very misleading experience. Buyers should be aware and confirm seller motivation before booking viewings, as not all listings appear to be genuinely active.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs, it is very clear that upon leaving they will attempt to take as much of your deposit as possible.

Punitive charges included £10 for a tangled blind chord (which following dispute resolution it turned out was tangled when we moved in), £45 for the absence of items that were clearly shown in the checkout report amongst many others.

Upon request for itemised receipts of these charges all communication ceased and we were forced to use the dispute resolution service, from which we were eventually remunerated.

If this is the letting agent/management company of a property you are looking at moving into, I promise you it isn’t worth it. The service is rude and uncommunicative with a parasitic business model.

Special shoutout to Louise (who is named in a lot of bad reviews on this site) who appeared to do her level best to make this an appalling process.

Aviod!!!!

Aviod!!!!!
Checkin all good, but the property management team is useless.
We had a moulding dishwasher and takes weeks to get it fixed (by us contacting the provider).
They will try anything to grab your deposit , we are disputing on DPS

Worst experience ever

Worst experience ever! They took £495 holding deposit without asking for details that were so important to them. I was left homeless for a month with a 5year old child, lived in emergency accommodation to raise that £495 to find accommodation to live in , yet I had approached them 2months prior my moving out date. Last minute trying to convince me to just in alternate property which was not suitable but just to satisfy their egos and bargain £495 when I rejected this! Biggest conman who don’t even give you a chance to talk as they do all the talking! I wouldn’t recommend them even to my worst enemy

We understand your frustration, but we would like to clarify the reasons behind the outcome. Unfortunately, the holding deposit was retained in accordance with the terms set out in the signed tenancy reservation form. This was due to discrepancies between the financial information initially provided and the final referencing results, which included undeclared credit history and a shortfall in the declared household income. These issues meant that the referencing criteria were not met.

Following this, there were several changes requested regarding the furnished nature of the property, and we experienced long periods of limited communication. This resulted in the landlord losing valuable marketing time, which also factored into the decision to retain the holding deposit.

Despite these challenges, we did try to assist you further by sourcing alternative accommodation that was more aligned with your budget and requirements once the full details of your financial situation became clear. We're sorry these options did not meet your needs.

We regret that your experience was not a positive one and will take your feedback on board as we continue to review and improve our processes.

Money was collected for the company's own purposes without securing approval from the landlord.

Hastings collected money from me without my approval, claiming to represent me in the payment of the District Heating Metering & Billing Charge to Community Energy (Commenergy.co.uk), the company that supplies heating and hot water to properties in London. I request that Hastings refrain from representing me in any payments to third parties without my explicit consent.

Importantly, I have already paid this amount directly to Community Energy, so I am asking Hastings to return the money they collected from me. They denied my request, stating that the funds had already been transferred to Community Energy and advised me to seek reimbursement from them directly. However, upon contacting Community Energy, I discovered that Hastings not only failed to transfer the recently collected funds but also withheld a significant portion of the payments they collected from me that were meant for Community Energy.

I insist that Hastings either resolve this issue with Community Energy or return the money to me. Hastings maintains that they successfully transferred my money to Community Energy and claims that the problem lies with them, stating that it is an accounting issue I must address directly with Community Energy. If this is indeed an accounting problem, then Hastings, as my agent, has a fiduciary duty to resolve it on my behalf. It appears that the company has mishandled my funds under the pretense of paying the District Heating Metering & Billing Charge to Community Energy.

To resolve this issue, my next steps should be to approach the Property Ombudsman and the Small Claims Court.

Hastings went above and beyond!

The team at Hastings provided invaluable help when I was urgently seeking a rental property in Rotherhithe. From initial viewings, to acceptance and completion took less than 4 working days, having pulled out all the stops to finalise everything. Special thanks to Stevie for making this happen and to Abel for his patience during a very stressful time.

I am first time using Hastings property agent for letting and sale of my property. The responsible staff are promising and responsive. I am delighted by to have my 2 bedrooms flat let out in about short period. Various staff incldung Abel, Simon, Thomas and Stevie are very nice and helpful. Well done!🙏👍

Good letting service

Hastings has been my letting agent since 2016. Upon completion of last tenancy in Oct 2024, Stevie helped me to source another tenants and arranged inventory check and liaised with tenants seamlessly. The new tenants moved into my apartment just within a week. This is fast and impressive!

Appalling experience

Lived in a rented property for 5 years with friends and had nothing but issues and rude response emails from this company. Louise who was meant to be on hand to help us with any issues was nothing but blunt and rude the entire 5 years, with a huge lack of compassion. We would have to chase multiple times to get anything done and over the entire period we never spoke to Louise on the phone even though we would call the office even in am emergency she was always 'conveniently out' but would then respond immediately by email. We had continual issues with damp and leaks throughout the tenancy and things would only be replaced with short fixes instead of actually finding a solution to the problem so would inevitably would happen and reappear 6-12 months later.

At the end of the tenancy we were shocked to find that we had been charged nearly £1,000 worth of 'issues' off our deposit including made up claims and claiming for 'missing items' which were purchased ourselves. Luckily we managed to go through the Deposit protection scheme and get the majority of the money back (nearly 5 months later). I have seen similar reviews claiming the same thing so watch out for these estate agents and keep fighting for your money it is worth it in the end. Appalling experience could not recommend less

Exceptional Service and Support!

I had a great experience with Hastings International during my renting process. Abel and Stevie went above and beyond to make everything smooth and straightforward. They were always professional, efficient, and quick to respond to any queries I had. The whole process felt seamless, and their friendly approach made a potentially stressful time much easier. Customer of 12 years for good reason

I have been using Hastings (Rotherhithe) for over 12 years, to market my properties, conduct viewings and sign up new tenants. Everyone at Hastings are helpful and professional, and I and all my tenants are happy. Most recently, the renewals team have concluded a tricky renegotiation and its all gone brilliantly. Top performance from a top team. I highly recommend them.

Excellent service for landlords by Hastings

We rent our flat with Hastings and I've found them very responsive and professional. Hastings know their market well, keep in touch and respond to all my questions rapidly. This is fantastic as a landlord who doesn't live locally. I know they're looking after my tenant well - top priority for me!
