Unnecessarily Disappointing
I instructed a home buyer report as additional precaution whilst I arranged my mortgage with Nationwide and paid £450 upfront for my survey. The survey was conducted 6 working days after being instructed.
I spoke with the company a week after the survey was completed and was advised that that despite signing T&C’s with them they would not send the report to me. I contacted Nationwide who confirmed that they had instructed the home report to be sent to me, I reverted back to only have it confirmed I was not their customer. Back to Nationwide and again they confirmed that the report would be sent by close of business. It didn’t arrive.
Keen to progress my transaction and now having a mortgage offer. I was required to make a formal complaint in order to receive the home report the following day.
In addition to this I had been advised that it was common place to chat through the report with the surveyor who carried at the survey. However, despite leaving a message for him, I wasn’t dignified by a reply.
Buying a house is an important decision, it is unfortunate that qualified professionals can make things more difficult.
Obnoxious organisation who would benefit from someone training in common customer service and courtesy.
I would strongly recommend instructing a survey with an organisation who is willing to work with the customer paying for their services.
Excellent, flexible service
Survey done on our home which was very thorough and professionally done. Came back to us with one Cat3 about the roof insultation, which was worrying, so I phoned and asked if there was anything we could do. The surveyor shared with me that there was a slight possibility that it could be improved as long as I could track down certain guarantees, but made no promises. Now I knew this, I was able to track down what I needed from the insulation company and provide proof of the guarantees. On Friday before a bank holiday weekend, my surveyor made amendments to the survey that made my property much more attractive to buyers, but more importantly, also included the most up to date and accurate information so we wouldn't inadvertently screw anyone over. All in all our surveyor went the extra mile for us, and we couldn't be more grateful. It seems like many of the bad reviews on here are from people not wanting to lift a finger or show willingness to work with the surveyor to make their house as attractive as possible, or who have an inflated sense of what their house/DIY jobs are actually worth. If you have a problem with the survey just call up and have it clarified, be polite and respectful of their expertise.

So disappointed I have rejected their report and gone elsewhere. Using their report would have resulted in a lesser sale price for my property. 1 star because they gave me a 50% refund but still lost £255. None existent advice, you have to pay upfront, Surveyor never even spoke a word and didn't seem to have read the questionnaire I filled in before hand, lots of unnecessary negative points made and an overall defensive and negative opinion of my Well maintained home. Don't use. Use someone local.
Incompetent company - Avoid
Avoid using this company…take a look at all the poor reviews on all feedback platforms with a consistent complaint about the valuation completed on a property. If your lender is instructing the valuation insist they use a different surveyor from their panel of valuers, I wish I had seen all this feedback and made that request!! Instructed by my lender, this surveyor has valued a property I am purchasing at £20k less than the original selling price 2yrs ago…!!
I provided concrete factual evidence to appeal the decision including a new home report & details of 3 other comparable properties recently sold in the same area, one being the property next door all of which clearly showed the value as much higher and they still refused to re consider the valuation. As a result my mortgage product was changed to a higher rate costing me financially. For a company to disregard such strong evidence is absolutely shocking. Dont use this company
Very Poor Inadequate Home Report on the roof ,cost us £10,500 to replace the Roof on a home we bought!
If Harvey Donaldson & Gibson Chartered Surveyors, Had carried out the Survey Properly by Inspecting within the Attic space, on the Roof which does have access via a internal pull-down ladder!
Then the SURVEY Would Have CLEARLY SHOWN THE GAPS IN THE ROOF TILES! and the Damp SAGGING INSULATION!, to take this to court would cost us a lengthy battle to regain our £10,500 on top of the cost of the home we Purchased. Cowboy Outfit using Cowboy Tactics, and if Anyone Reads this report DONT USE Harvey Donaldson & Gibson Chartered Surveyors. We have written to they and they REFUSED TO COMPENSATE! Be Warned !!

The company, of bad customer service
The company, im sure, produce professional home reports, but what I just do not like is the customer service that they have, from first point of contact all the way to completion. I honestly thought that, why the hell am I accepting this?. word of advice to anyone, be careful of the arrogance that they have. Note to company....we are the customers, if you dont have us, you are finished.
